For as long as I can remember, I always noticed that my airstrikes arn't as pin-point as it seems. Is their way to tell which side the airstrike is going to hit? Like from the West/East or North/South or something? This would be very useful to know, as I always seem to die from my own lately.

No, the direction of approach is absolutely random. Airstrikes are pinpoint accurate in that the spot you point it towards will be the center of the carpet bombing strip. Depending on the height, the bombs could reach out as far as 800 by 2000 inches, not including the huge blast radius of each of the minibombs.
You cannot control the Airstrike's direction in COD4. Unlike, say... Enemy Territory: Quake Wars where the airstrike will be horizontal to your facing.

At least on the XBox360, the airstrikes are 100% absolutely *NOT* pinpoint accurate. They used to be once upon a time, but ever since one of the later patches (I believe it was the patch that came along with the new maps), this is no longer the case. After my airstrikes stopped getting kills anymore, I started dropping them immediately in my line of sight and noticed that I'd rarely see them fall. I've dropped them on the enemy spawn in Bog and had them land near my team's spawn, instead. I've even dropped them directly on my own head and then never seen them land. It's very frustrating, especially on maps like Bog and Downpour that used to be Air Strike goldmines.

One time on Ambush I got a 5 kill streak in 30 health SnD, and it was the last round 1 on 1, so I used my UAV and dropped an airstrike on the last guy, who was at B. The airstrike killed me at A.

On the 360, search and destroy, I targeted the grassy field spawn on chinatown with an airstrike... UAV up and running in the last round with the score 3 - 3.
I hit my friendlies on our spawn on the opposite side of the map and died instantly for teamkilling two teammates in the early round.
Combine Loathing with Bitterness -- and you might get a suitable word for what I felt about that airstrike.
Airstrikes not hitting the ground at all is also common. Yesterday, one of my free for all airstrikes on Wet Works ALL hit the SAME mast. Every bomb in all three planes hit the exact same mast. Great show -- but people LAUGHED OUT LOUD.
... Finally: Place an airstrike in the well on District, and the airplanes will come through the buildings and drop the bombs inside buildings and look really really stupid. Place an airstrike on the missile silo bottom on Countdown for the same effect; airplanes flying WAAAY TOO low. Low as in "Through the heatshields and hangars"

Airstrikes are behaving properly in that video, the strike is concentrated in the area pinpointed. The planes don't have anything getting in the way on Ambush, the clusters will spread out quite a bit at the end. Most maps in COD are tiny - the minibombs will cover a long stretch of ( or even reach further than the total length of) the map.
