There's definitely a lot less leaning towards team play on consoles. I've only been playing Halo Reach, but team playlists aren't very well populated, and any objective gamemodes that do pop up usually get vetoed. Sometimes, it may be because the objectives are just a flimsy pretext to divert attention from the killing, but the common perception has a lot of truth - people aren't that willing to play objectives on consoles. Not that they WON'T, I played SWAT 3 plot (think hardcore domination) and everybody seemed pretty objective oriented, it's just that people would prefer NOT to humor the developers in their attempts to make interesting gameplay and just vote Slayer.
As for BO, I wasn't really that excited for it. I got CoD 4 on a whim about 4 months after WAW came out, and I was instantly addicted, so naturally MW2 was a big cockslap to the face for a while and killed my anticipation of CoD. It wasn't until the end of its reign that I really started to like it and see that it wasn't that bad. Either way, Blops was pretty unremarkable on launch. Playing through 4 CoDs in 2 years will do that.
As for the Youtube community, I think they're just tired. I remember when all of this silliness started, back when Blame Truth first uploaded FFA 7, M4A1 on Crossfire with omg lolcommentary, quickly followed by xcal and hutch. Ever since xcal pulled the first machinima partnership (why wasn't he made a premier director anyway?), every kid and his dog with a PVR was making those comms. No-one really cares anymore. The threshold of what's considered "impressive" has been pushed too high. I still watch xcal, because he is funny as fuck and his live comms are awesome, but any respect I had for Blame Truth got stomped on after some Halo Reach vid with awful manchildish dual commentary and teabagging people after crouch tactical loitering with the energy sword. Although his friends Gangster Hebrew and Marox Rickshaw are pretty cool guys.

I'm just tired of the same old FPS cliches that have been pushed around for so long mashed together with the COD-style gameplay that everyone seems to be imitating these days. - Very low health, i.e. easy kills
- Virtually no recoil
- Constant sprinting and firing weapons on the run
- Fewer and fewer differences between weapons (eg. SMGs/LMGs/ARs can all snipe across maps and kill in just a few shots from any range)
- Poor weapon balance (some weapons are blatantly superior while others are handicapped for no reason)
- Overpowered melee
- Abilities or equipment that give overpowered advantages to players, making them a necessity in order to compete.
- Abilities or equipment that are useless and remain unchanged sequel after sequel.
- Almost no significant balancing changes made to the game post-release (with very rare exceptions)
- Very little thought or effort put into objective game types
- Games lacking features that should be standard but for some reason are never included (ability to mute all players or mute all but squad, ability to join friend's squad mid-game)
Altogether, I'm waiting for someone to make a game that doesn't bow to the same old nonsense that exists in the FPS genre these days. I know everyone says that FPS are a stagnant genre but I can think of a dozen ways to innovate and improve on the genre, and I'm no game developer, so I know there's still a lot of unexplored territory to discover.

I know everyone says that FPS are a stagnant genre but I can think of a dozen ways to innovate and improve on the genre, and I'm no game developer, so I know there's still a lot of unexplored territory to discover. I feel you man. Remember when Mirror's Edge came out? I think the only disappointment there was the short story line. Finally, a game where the objective was not shooting people, but running bat crazy away from them. That game was a massive relief from all the SHOOT EVERY LIVING MOTHER ***KER THAT MOVES type game-play. It was even more satisfying when you beat the game without shooting a single weapon at anyone. And had one awesome theme song that I know have on my [input music playing device here] And Metal Gear. My favorite shooter franchise. If you ask me, sneaking around the chaos is a lot more fun than being part of it. The game even rewarded you for not being seen and not killing anyone. On Peace Walker, the PSP port of the franchise, penalized you for killing and being seen, the first in the series. The problem with shooters nowadays is the fact that all it requires, is skill. You don't need (as much) strategy in shooters, than in other games. Fighting games requires you to figure out what the characters' strength's are and exploit them at the right times in a fight. Racing games, depending on the game, requires near perfect timing for different, "plays" (i.e., power-ups, tricks, crashing, boosting) and knowledge of the track. RPG's of all kind are unbeatable without thinking ahead and preparing. Even Platformers you need to figure out what your going up against to beat it, even if it requires trial and error. If you ask me, if they put in features to a shooter that allows you to be harder to hit and easier to sneak around people online, and add team based objectives that don't pit you against other players (giant boss fight?) Not only would it be fun and refreshing, but it will be fun to hear people complain on the mike when all THEY do is run around like an idiot and not think of things as they're going.
