Hi, why do allot of peaple think the flamethrower is that good? (in multiplayer) I don't really see the big benefit... they are nice to kill dogs, but that is about it. They could be nice next to a sniper, but then you have a big gap between the long range sniper and short range flamethrower, so I prefer the magnum anyway. And you can't have betties wich are nice with a sniper... So why is it so good? and do you have tips for using it?

Infinite ammo. Improvised smokescreen. Cornering, indirect hits and area denial. Twice as long to cool down as it takes to heat up.
If there's a gap, close it. Don't try to cover all bases, Bards are only good in D&D; be a short range specalist. More than enough cover on every map so you can get to the enemy, even the big guys like Seelow.
Mobility > all else. Go with a top speed primary weapon and use Extreme Conditioning. Flamethrowers go well with a Super Shotgun and Sleight of Hand. They have equal range and the fast reloading speed will always allow you a backup if you need to cool down.
Out in the open, taking fire? Let loose the flames in the direction of the enemy to conceal yourself from the snipers. An actual smoke grenade helps.
Typing of smoke grenades, they surpass the Flare in every way. Fill a room with gray and throw some heat in there. It works far better than wading through the cloud with a gun and having your silhouette shot to pieces. Goodness, that smoke cloud is breathing fire and making us all die a lot!
Despite the big plumes of flame, a guy with a flamethrower can be just as sneaky as a guy with a suppresor and radar jamming. He needs to be. Ambush and counter-offense.

Does the Flamethrower appear on radar when it's 'fired'?

Well I'm really not looking for a main weapon with the flamer... I'm a rifle man on most maps and now I finally got to lvl 65 prestige 9 (prefer the icon over the 10th) I thought lets find out why it is so good. I really like the 30 bullet carbine, but I really don't need a flamethrower to back that up in close range. And If I want to fight close range I prefer a SMG over the flamer... So sorry I still don't really see the big picture? Why ever switch to your flamer if you have a type 100 with double mag with stopping power? (my favorite 100% run speed weapon) And I have the feeling the flamer kills pretty slow. (how many drops per second?)

the flamethrower is useful for building clearing, you can bet your ass. I use it in War a lot to wipe out the flags.
