He was sitting right next to me during LAN, and I was dead so I watched his screen (10 second spawn timer). He had a suppressed G3 as his primary, and he put someone into Last Stand. He ran over and stabbed them (DEFINITELY a stab, not a slash), and at first nothing happened, but then about a second later his target died and it said "Mandalore (KNIFE) Blah Blah."

He ran over and stabbed them (DEFINITELY a stab, not a slash), and at first nothing happened, but then about a second later his target died and it said "Mandalore (KNIFE) Blah Blah." The glitch isn't that you CAN'T stab anyone with a silenced G3, it's just that the actual stab occurs a full second or more after the stabbing animation. Basically, if you stab, whoever is standing in front of you a second after you stop stabbing is going to fall over dead. This means you can either stab someone and then hold still for a second until it connects, or if you know how long the delay is you could in theory stab, then run towards them so that you're entering melee range just as the hit is connecting. In the most extreme scenario, if you had a guy right around a corner from you, you could stab, then after you finished stabbing run around the corner directly at him, and he could fall over dead from mysterious causes without ever seeing you use your knife, fire your gun, or prime an explosive. |

The MeleeChargeDelay is 1.3 seconds (instead of the should-be 0.13 seconds), as in that is the amount of time before the knife hitscan will activate. It is downright impossible to stab any aware enemy intentionally but very much possible to hit a target that doesn't/can't move at all.

When knifing does the kill happen after the animation ends or when the knife "strikes" the enemy? can you lunge knife someone and miss without moving at all? are you responsible to direct the knife after you click the button?

The answer is neither. The kill happens some time between when the knife strikes and the end of the animation. If the enemy moves, then you can try to move your screen to match- as long as he's centered on screen at the moment of impact, then he will die. |

In other words you are responsible for directing the knife to the enemy for the amount amount of time it takes to "kill" the person.
