Now that the Battlefield 3 Alpha is out in the wild, wouldn't it be a great time to delve into the files and find as much info as possible about the weapons in the game?
Even if its only of real use to a select lucky few, we would find out the full weapons list and also track the development of the game.
My gut tells me that we'll be waiting until the beta for anything like that. I'm mainly interested in how powerful the weapons will be. Vietnam weapons are fairly powerful compared to those from BC2, so who knows what direction they'll be going.
Either the damage is higher or the reg is amazing, I watched a clip where the player casually sprays down 3 guys (with an AR or SMG) then swaps to his pistol to finish the 4th.

I'm sure someone would be willing to put those theories to the test and provide den with some files if he were interested. I have no idea how much has changed though in terms of engine file structure.

I have the Alpha installed.
Bullet damage is VERY high, almost the same as CoD's 30-40 damage model.
Higher than Vietnam. I feel it is in the region of 25-35.
I dont unfortunately know the first place to look in the game files, but If anyone can help in that regard then i'd be glad to get some numbers together.
In the meantime I will test manualy.

I'd much prefer having good hit-reg than simply having more powerful guns. I do love me some powerful weapons, but it doesn't mean anything if my gun "misses" all the time. I can deal with the expanding cone of fire. I can deal with projectiles in place of hitscans. I can deal with bullet drop. What I can't deal with is having perfectly aimed shots "miss" because the hitboxes are off the model, bad netcode, or simply because the game decides that my bullets don't count.

^it's beautiful. I was actually able to take out more than 3 people with a single clip, although the pistols seem to be weaker now / have stupidly low penetration *was using LMG flanking enemies that were sitting on top of some scaffolding in the underground portion of Paris, didn't feel like reloading for the last guy when i shot him in the back ,literally 6 times with my pistol, and only got hitmarkers. The guy didn't even decide to turn around. I was either hitting the wood (he was elevated and only a small portion of him was showing) he was on, or he had a really good helmet

Since it'd be of importance to the chart too - is the annoying "random spread" mechanic while ADS toned down from BC2 somewhat?
I felt it was extremely unintuitive and made combat feel very sloppy that guns had almost no 'kick' to them when fired ADS, and the bullets just became less accurate unless you allowed an invisible accuracy timer to reset.
It wasn't so bad in CS - due to the crosshair expanding with accuracy (by default, anyway) and the higher weapon damage / shorter ranges, but in BC2 it feels like you'd often have problems in firefights because you'd have your enemy under your sights but no chance to hit them.
At its worst, basically, with the VSS - essentially no kick, but what felt like a 90 degree cone of inaccuracy.

that stuff, especially the spread whilst moving whilst ADS, is the big thing that separates BC2 from MW imo. i think overall i like it. less superhero behaviour. it's a design call to push it towards realistically human recoil control i guess. but i have heard it's reduced in BF3, yeah, especially the zmov

zmov always made me a little dissapointed- i like the spread increasing factor, but zmov seemed to just promote campers AND THOSE LVL 50 MEDICS GOD DáMNIT

i believe zmov makes your shots inaccurate while you are moving- aiming down your sights is similar to hip fire, just that it has a tighter spread, but it still expands when you don't burst fire, especially when you are moving
