COD4 PC mod help

I recently bought call of duty 4 game of the year edition on PC and looking on the internet i have found mods which change certain thing which i am sure most of you will know anyway i have a few questions aimed specifically at call of duty 4 mods which i want to use online.
1. where is a safe place to download these mods from i have found this website www.strategyinformer.com/pc/mods/callofduty4modernwarfare/mod/category1461-2.html but i am unsure if a trust a website i have never came across before.
2. After downloading the mod where do i put the file. I have installed the game on a partition in this location D:/Games/Call of duty 4
3. How do i activate the mod when I start up the game

The best place to get mods is directly from the servers that use them.

The download speed will be just as fast as getting it from a website (unless the server doesn't have a referral set up, then it will be very slow).
It will automatically place the mod in the right spot and put you into the server when it is done. When you go to join that server again, it will load the mod for you.

It is almost always necessary to get the mod right from the server, as each server usually has their own version of the same mod in their own folder, meaning you would still have to download it.
You might get multiple copies of the same exact mod set in seperate folders, but that's just the way the game handles mods now.
