What are your favourite classes to use? Do you have any classes with a specific gimmick, or purpose?
My favourite class to be honest is...
Intervention (No attachment, but it will be Dual Mag) PP2000 with a Silencer (effective side-arm, G18 is also good but the recoil is very quick to rise, PP is reliable) Frag and 2 Stuns (Though Semtex is very handy too) Sleight of Hand Pro Stopping Power Pro Steady Aim Pro
I use this for my style of sniping, which tends to be aggressive but not too stupid like in the montages :L I'm fairly comfortable at any range with this class, Intervention is good medium-long and PP is good short-medium, Stopping Power just helps this moreso.
A nice gimmick class I use: Vector with a Silencer PP2 (or AA12) each with a silencer Frag and 2 Stun Marathon (not got Pro yet) Lightweight (not got Pro yet) OR Hardline Steady Aim (not got Scrambler yet =P)
This class is basically an incredibly effective rusher. Unlimited sprint + Lightweight bonus + SMG movement speed = Very fast rushing. Hardline also works very effectively as you can gain quick killstreaks, namely UAVs for your team and things like Care Packages which are sometimes fantastic. Next would be either Predator Missile, Harrier Strike or Emergency Airdrop - maybe even Pave Low. Chopper Gunner is incredible but I'm not good enough at this game yet to accomplish this killstreak regularly =P (I suck D;)
I use Copycat as my Deathstreak but I don't tend to die even 3 times in a row :L I'll make it Martyrdom when I can.
My killstreaks are UAV - very underestimated in this game as there's no UAVJ perk - effective when used in conjunction with a HBS for those Scramblers :L Care Package, a bit of a gamble but can be very good. Emergency Airdrop I used for a bit - which is INSANELY good and underestimated, since then I changed back to the Helicopter at 7 kills (quick and easy, does the job) or the Harrier at 7 too.
DISCUSS!

My killstreaks are UAV - very underestimated in this game as there's no UAVJ perk - effective when used in conjunction with a HBS for those Scramblers :L You're right, there is no UAV Jammer in MW2. There is, however, Cold Blooded... which doesn't just make you invisible to UAV, it also makes you invisible to all killstreak rewards, thermal scopes, and makes it so your name never pops up in red over your head when people aim at you. In addition, there's CounterUAV and Scrambler, both of which negate UAV. I'm not disputing the usefulness of UAVs (I'm a big fan of Hardline + UAV = UAVs after a 2-kill "streak"), I'm just pointing out that UAVs are way, way easier to counter in MW2 than they are in MW1 (especially since Stopping Power isn't as "necessary" in MW2 as it was in MW1, so people are a lot more free to pick a different perk 2). I've been trying to master a gun (or mostly master a gun) before moving on to the next, so the only guns I've used so far are the UMP and the SCAR. My three classes at the moment are: UMP + Holographic Sight 1x Frag, 2x Flash SoH, SP, Scrambler, Painkiller SCAR + Heartbeat Sensor 1x Frag, 2x Flash SoH, Hardline, Scrambler, Painkiller Riot Shield Blast Shield, 1x Smoke Marathon, Lightweight, Scrambler, Painkiller As soon as I unlock Cold Blooded (next level!) I'm swapping the Holographic on my UMP for a silencer and swapping SP for Cold Blooded. I'd use Steady Aim, but I never really fire from the hip. I've also got Commando up to Pro already (I put it on my Riot Shield class for easy melee skills), but I rarely knife and the "no falling damage" bonus isn't worth burning a perk on.

on 80% of the maps if you get a chopper gunner you will get a nuke. it is so imba its not funny.
i one man army a scar with HBS, then one man army any other weapons im leveling up. you find LMG's and snipers are alot easier to level when you can ditch them inside of 4 seconds LoL

oh fuck sometimes i'm so stupid it hurts >.<
Well now you've said that I switched to Care Package, Predator Missile and Harrier Strike, next unlock I'll switch for Chopper Gunner somewhere.
I really don't see a point in the launchers though, it's easy to avoid air support and theyre virtually usless vs invantry.

It is not easy to avoid air support without Cold Blooded.

What would you recommend for a level 1 player? The default UMP class (iirc, it's called "Fast Recon") is awesome. I used that exclusively until I unlocked enough stuff to make a good UMP class of my own. The Scout Sniper class is also pretty solid- I still use it as my default sniper setup because I haven't yet unlocked the HBS for the Barrett (I just recently unlocked Cold Blooded, and prior to that Scout Sniper was the only way to get Cold Blooded). Really, all of the preset classes are pretty solid, unlike the garbage presets that came with CoD4.

Nice to hear that preset classes are better in this one.
Honestly, in CoD4 the only good preset was the M16 and the Sniper was decent just didn't have claymores : )

Posting my regular classes with assault rifles, snipers, etc., would be boring. You don't care, you have your own preferences or can find them.
Instead, here are some cheap classes:
TUBER
M16 w/ grenade launcher Thumper Semtext -Scavenger -Danger Close -Scrambler -Martyrdom
KNIFER -Any handgun w/ tactical knife -Tactical insertion Marathon Lightweight Commando
JUGGERNAUT Riot shield Magnum (a fast swap will frequently get 'em, or you need it if they turn their back and try to run) Blast shield 2x stun -Marathon -Lightweight -Commando
SNEAKY RIOT Same as "Juggernaut" but with Throwing Knives instead of Blast Shield and Scavenger instead of Marathon... If they aren't trying to grenade\tube you (juggernaut often makes them give up, lol), you can whip out a throwing knife at close range for a quick kill. Scavenger is used so that you don't have to worry about losing your throwing knife.

Also, Bling is for weaker players. Real men use Scavenger.
Having a riced out weapon will help a LOT, but you won't take down as many people, especially if your secondary weapon is a launcher.
On the other hand, Scavenger can be used by nubs like me for spamming with Grenades\C4\Claymores. It's funny as shit to be playing Headquarters with a good team and thereby earning 8x claymores in the HQ.

woah, I must be a real girl doggy because i got bling in 2 of my classes!
RANDOM I:
TAR-21 AA-12
Semtex 2xStun
Bling Stopping Power Sitrep
RANDOM II:
FAL AA-12
Semtex 2xStun
Bling Stopping Power Sitrep
RANDOM IIV
M16 AA-12
Semtex 2xStun
Bling Stopping Power Sitrep
RANDOM IV
50. Cal AA-12
Semtex 2xStun
Scavenger Stopping Power Sitrep
RANDOM V
Riot Shield Magnum
Blast Shield 2xStun
Marathon Cold Blooded Sitrep.
As you can see, my equipment and perks are pretty close to the same as i dont like swapping up my playstyles too much, nothing worse then playing in the same lobby for 45minutes and having to find a different match, only to find that the class you have been using in the past matchs is near useless because of the enemies playstyle.
does that make sense?

For FFA/1v1. (and S&D)
SCAR+hbs trumps all claymore 1 man army stopping power Ninja pro
Great class for anything but ground war. Dominates ffa/1v1/s&d like nothing previously ever seen in a COD game.
Really like 1 man army in most gametypes. Sooooo useful! Until you feel like you need to quick swap weapons to do some up close magnum ownage. Somebody got air support? No biggie... Swap to a missle class and school it. Run and gun your way to a spot with long lines of fire? pop out 2 claymores & a brust firing M21 and pop a bitch.
Wanna tube a bitch? You see where Im going... Having a couple of 1 man army classes is soooo beastly (aslong as you NEVER get caught having to reload VS whipping out a pistol to kill someone!)

Tar-21 Extended Mags( or whatever attach you want really, toob also a good option with scav) Javelin (got four kills with this the other day, does it lock on people? guess so. but really your secondary will not matter here because the Tar is still dope at CQC)
Claymore
Scavenger Pro Stopping Power Pro ...Profit...No really you can use any perk 3
This type class has worked so well for me that it is hard for me to go back to using frags and slight of hand even though I like those so much. On the other hand, I run out of ammo so much without having scavenger that I feel naked without it. As has already been mentioned (somewhere) that you can only have two claymores out at a time, but you can be holding a third as the other two are down. Also NO ONE is using bomb squad! So people are falling all over them and making my kill-streaks that much easier to achieve.
Predator/ Harrier/Chopper Gunner

One of the more amusing kits I've come up with :
Riot Shield Striker Throwing Knife Flashbang Marathon Lightweight Commando
This is what I use for Domination these days. I've discovered that you can toss off the Throwing Knife faster than any other attack from the Riot Shield, and nobody EVER expects it, they're waiting for you to try and melee or swap the shield out and then they kill you. I can't tell you how many Throwing Knife kills I've gotten off people who were trying to reload while backing away from me.

I've been playing with a similar Riot Shield Throwing Knife class in regular Free For All. Riot Shield .44 Magnum (doesn't really matter, could go with a launcher or One Man Army) Throwing Knife Stun Grenades (slows them down for easier knife aiming) First Perk options: Scavenger (this is actually key so you can pick up extra stun grenades and throwing knives) One Man Army (this could work, but I haven't tried it yet. It should give you a brand new undamaged shield that you can see through in addition to the needed stuns and knife) Marathon (could work, but you're limited to your own knife and two stun grenades, but at least you can run after someone who is faster with your slow run speed) Second Perk options: Lightweight (approach faster) Danger Close (maybe makes stun hurt more/longer/bigger area of effect? Also helps your secondary if you use a launcher) Hardline (gets UAV faster since you can't have Heartbeat Sensor) Cold-blooded (works with a Stinger against air support and sometimes people just don't notice you) Third Perk: Last Stand (sometimes I just stun kill myself out of spite, robbing them of a kill) Commando (extended melee range, but it's more about the throwing knife. No falling damage could be good, too) Ninja (invisible to Heartbeat, approach targets silently and hear an opponent's footsteps over yours better) How to use this class: You set up your attack with stun grenades. Slow them down. Your primary attack is your throwing knife, which is a one shot kill anywhere on the body. Your secondary attack (when you lose your knife) is the shield bash (shield bash once, back off to avoid their knife, then shield bash again for the kill). Basically, run around until you see someone. If they see you, block their bullets by looking right at them so they can't shoot your butt and by crouching so they can't shoot your feet. You can soften them up with deflected bullets which you get XP for. You can throw a stun grenade while they're shooting, eat some bullets and still survive. Or you can just wait until they reload, then throw a stun grenade. Close in if necessary, then throw your knife at them. Run over their body, and Scavenger may pick up their stun grenades and your knife. Repeat. With Scavenger, I usually end up picking up at least one stun and a throwing knife after a kill. If they don't see you, throw your stun grenade to slow them down (Riot Shield makes you move slow), then throw your knife. It's certainly not overpowered, but it's a lot of fun and hilarity ensues. It's a whole different game - it's more about outwitting your opponent instead of just shooting them. Use your shield, exercise some patience, then pounce. Kills are very satisfying. It's not a build to win with, but I've gotten as many as 8 kills in a row and gone 2:1 K:D (results are not typical). Just look out for the Semtex stuck to your shield. The shield will protect you from other explosives like claymores and even stun grenades. The Riot Shield will also protect you from air support guns and sentry guns. You can absorb a Sentry Gun's full ammo, then destroy it with one bash before it starts up again.

One of the best sniping classes: Intervention-Thermal (I know the Barrett is better, but I still love BA's) Thermal is for having amazing visibility, but surprisingly, it isn't too great for snowy maps b/c somehow snow appears hot on thermal imaging. Glock 18 (I know most like the PP2k, but I find that with trigger control I do fine w/ glock and I can spray like none other) Semtex for running+gunning, claymore for tactical loitering (I only like claymore w/ scavenger really) Stun- as a sniper, stuns are usually used as an emergency getaway when someone is too close SoH Pro (beast railguns) Stopping power pro Steady Aim Pro (I can have my two favourite third perks from CoD4 in one! Yay!) Final stand because It's easy to hide w/ a ghillie >
