The riot shield doesn't give you protection from a full 180 degrees, maybe only like 90-120 degrees. If you're facing your target and it's not dead center, you can still die... If you have the blast shield on, though, and your view is obstructed, it seems like if the target is in view, he probably can't kill you.
Now, here's my question: If two or more people with riot shields stand side by side, can it create a "wall", such that each man protects the other (protects either to the left or to the right)?
In the campaign and spec ops, you see NPCs using this maneuver.
