So I am primarily a COD player, but got a bit bored of the crappy objective modes so been playing a bit of BF3.
However i'm finding the accuracy a real nightmare on this, can't really hit anything at range.
Part of this is the COD>BF transition (recoil...wth?) also xbox > ps3 (arghhh overaim).
I usually use an MK14 on COD and I am trying to replicate that high power moderate fire rate minimal recoil feel within BF3. I have been trying the mk11 and SVD (not got Mk39 yet...don't relaly play co-op) without scopes/with acog and like them a fair bit, but not sure what other attachments are really effective, or if there are some assault rifles that work particularly well with burst fire (ie still keep the 2nd shot on target rather than 20 miles over their head).
Also I feel like the foregrip makes the gun worse, is this just me?
TL;DR Best burst fire weapons? what attachments for acog/no scope semi auto sniper?

I think there's a problem/bug with snipers and short range sights. The time before you actually become fully accurate takes longer than the animation; so you kinda have to let it settle after you are zoomed which is very awkward. That, and the rate of fire jamming bug where you have to exactly fire at the weapons RPM or else you'll have your gun jamming makes the Semi autos kinda crappy for mid range fighting right now. I say put this playstyle on hold and try it once the patch goes out.
Oh, and the foregrip doesn't have any downsides (it will in the next patch) so it's just a gut feeling that it makes it worse (i think the foregrip is actually stronger on the semis than on other weapons)
as for burst weapons; just don't expect the kill anything within 2 bursts even at medium range. BF3 is totally different in that regard to call of duty that you just have to pump out more lead to hit stuff. If you really want a dedicated burst weapon, the KH2002 is pretty good as it has very low vertical recoil. If you're a PC player, the AN-94 is pretty good too; i think the console version doesnt have the buffed an-94 yet so don't bother.

for a weapon that can achieve the same things that the MK14 can, your best bet is the SKS with any sight, the laser sight, and the bipod for DMRing, the heavy snipers should ONLY be used if you are confident in your ability to get headshots every single time, else you will die

SKS or bust: packs a punch, almost spammable, 20 rounds. Closest thing to the M14 you'll ever get. If you want a burst alternative, go for the AN-94. It's just as strong as the other ARs, but it's about as accurate as you can get.

COD's instant hit scan transfering over to the bullet speed/fall/recoil patterns of BF can be really awkward. You have to compensate for speed by leading slightly (not so much that your cross hairs are ahead of them, just on the front most part of their bodies in the direction they are running is enough) Bullet fall isn't very bad on most high velocity guns (Assault rifles are a good class to start with coming from COD) so just aiming for the chest/head is good at most ranges. The hardest part of BF to get used to is the increasing recoil from holding your fire button down. I suggest you get used to NOT prefiring, taking your time to get on target first before you start shooting - people get exponentially harder to kill at longer ranges too. Be patient and burst, even at ranges that would seem like it's okay to spray. Keep shooting stuff and learn how long you can shoot before bullets start flying out at weird angles- good luck!

Your biggest challenges moving from COD to BF3 is going to be getting used to the in-game ballistics (bullets actually have speed and drop in BF3, not instantaneous like in COD) and having to learn actual recoil management.
I'm one of the few who seems to prefer the heavy-hitting semi-auto snipers over the SKS. I prefer the ability to get 1-2 hit headshots with the MK11 MOD0, SVD or M39 EMR over the spamming ability of the SKS. As long as I aim for the head I can usually take down anyone at any range with 2-3 shots max, whereas for the SKS I usually find myself firing 5+ rounds to make a kill, especially at longer ranges.
My personal recommendation for you would be to use the M39 EMR (slightly higher bullet speed) with 4x or 3.4x scope and Foregrip, and leave the third attachment slot empty unless you want to try your hand at hip firing with the laser sights. Oh, and if you have the new patch on PS3, definitely turn off Anti-Aliasing in the video options; it makes the controls so much more responsive and looks better IMHO.
PS. The SKS may feel closer to the M14 EMR in COD, so try it out and use what works for you.

For hitting moving targets, the M39 (basically the upgraded M14 of this game) is by far the best, because it has excellent ballistic properties and higher damage. That being said, I enjoy the SKS far more. Put a laser sight on it, it's mounted on the side of the gun. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
My personal SKS loadout: 3.6x RU, silencer, foregrip. This may change with the patch.
