Why does the MP40 on consoles have 50 initial damage instead of 40 like on PC? It seems like it would make it a lot better than other submachine guns like the Thompson, even with the lower fire rate. What reasons are there to use the Thompson over the MP40, assuming I don't have the larger clip unlocked for either of them?
You are my bro, bro.

Tommy gun 0.08 Two with Power 0.16 Three shots 0.24 Four with Power 0.32 Five shots
MP40 0.112 Two shots with Power, console 0.224 Three shots far with Power or PC's 40 damage close 0.336 Four shots
MP40 at Double Tap speeds 0.084 Two shots, console 0.168 Three shots, PC 0.252 Four shots
Even though the MP40's damage of 50-29 puts it on par with a Thompson using Power, even with Double Tap, the Thompson with Power would still best the MP40 in Time to Kill.

I think they made the MP40 like this for 2nd perk versatility. I personally rock it with Flak Jacket on my tank killer class.

I think you are forgeting the juggernaut here. If I shoot you with Stopping power with the MP40, vs juggernaut, it will still drop him in two shots aka .112, and If you use a Tommygun it should drop him in only three shots aka .16... so there is a split second advantage with the MP40 vs Juggernaut...

flak jacket is awesome against tank. it allows you to survive a hit unless it is the actual round that hits you which is very uncommon. fireworks doesn't even effect tanks so I don't know why that would be a good choice.

Is it me or does the MP40 seem to have less kick with double tap engaged? If someone trys it let me know your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

More weapons seem to have less kick with double tap, don't know if it is true... I think the random kick can compensate itself faster because of the faster firetime or something.

MP40 is very good on consoles because:
It kills in two hits even with UAV jammer -- whereas the other SMGs need three or five. It kills other SMG users who has stopping power in two hits while you use juggernaut and need three hits to go down.
It can kill in one headshot with stopping power, for the laughs.
It is the only weapon in the game, except shotsguns, that allows the objective-completing run and gunner to wear any perk 2 without a huge drop in effectiveness.
My favorite MP40 classes: MP40 3x gas, gas mask MP40 silenced, uav ja... camouflage MP40 juggernaut
For any NON-special class, Type 100 outperforms the MP40 in my opinion.

So how does the MP40 compare to the Thompson with Double Tap?
I'm confuzzled and can't seem to work out the formula for time to kill a guy....

What I've figured it to be is that. MP40+DT<Thompson+SP Thompson+DT<MP40+DT

Can you give me the numbers for it please?
Infact it'd be more useful if you just gave me the formula for time to kill a guy.

I think its basically
100 for health / damage = bullets to kill(round it up)
bullets to kill(-1 because the first shot is instant) x firetime = TIME TO KILL
MP40
100/50=2 (2-1)x0.112=0.112
What about thompson with DT
100/40=2.5 2.5 is 3 rounded up. Can't fire 1/2 a bullet. (3-1)x0.08x0.75
TTK=Firetime(Health / Damage - 1)
Not sure if there's a mathematical way of saying round up.

TKG = number of shots needed multiplied by Fire Time
Subtract one from the number of shots since the first shot takes place at zero seconds.
