A look at the bomb patterns [pic]

I was curious so I created a splitscreen game and called in all the different air strikes that drop bombs and observed the size and patterns of their blasts. The sizes of the blast areas are not exact because I just eyeballed it, but I think I did pretty well.



Notes:

-If you are inside the box but close to the edge of it you will take less than 100 damage from the strike, but if the second bombing run hits you you will die for sure.

- Each bombing run from the harrier strike hits roughly the same amount of area as a bombing run from the precision airstrike, but there are only 2 runs instead of 3, and the second barely hits a different area than the first. And of course you can't control the direction. (There are 3 harriers that come, but the third just shoots)

- The precision airstrike hits pretty high up compared to the position of the circle by the time the last bombs have hit.

- Bombs can get caught up on just about anything solid in between the plane and the ground, remember they exit the plane well before it gets to the actual target and travel both downwards and forwards.

- The stealth bomber just does one massive strike instead of several little ones. I may have exaggerated the height a bit (it was bigger than I expected so I didn't have the best angle to observe it from) but it's definitely considerably wider than the precision airstrike.

- The blast shield and riot shield don't seem to do jack to protect against airstrike damage.

- (unrelated) A blast shield will not save you from a *direct* hit by an AT-4 to the chest.

So the bombing runs always head upwards from the maps perspective?



Say I place a killstreak right on top of the house on the bottom left corner of Estate, which way will, say, the Precision Airstrike bombs fall? Always "north"? Or is there a way to change that?

I thought that the stealth bomber went from where you called it to at least the end of the map.

Also because the maps are different sizes, the area that the circle covers is different on each map. Obviously this will help us relatively compare the size and area of where the bombs hit, but it won't be a sure size.

you can change the direction of the strike using the right stick, but only for the precision airstrike and stealth bomber iirc. the harriers probably just enter the map from one of a few pre-set directions.

So, if you put the stealth bomber on one edge of the map, the damage path will run clear to the opposite edge of the map?

I am reasonably confident that the Steath bomber will cover the entire legnth of the map, regardless of where you put it on that line.

I have survived multiple airstrike hits (sometimes from all three planes), even when II was right in the middle of it, the regular airstrike is not very thorough and you can get lucky depending on where the bombs hit. I have not survived a hit from a stealth bomber though, It drops many bombs and cover the area compleatly

If I place my stealth bomber cursor in the middle of the map with the direction arrow facing north, will it automatically start dropping on that line as soon as it enters the south edge of the map or does it wait and start dropping on my cursor. In essence, if I place the cursor anywhere other than maps edge am I wasting part of the bombing run?

Do you have any kind of scale of your airstrike boxes vs. 1 or more of the maps themselves?
