Only played the demo of this so far and hated every minute of it, but hoping to see a review that dares to call it "Dragon's Dog$hit"...

The demo was a poor representation of the game. It did not showcase the game's strengths nor the entirety of the Character / Pawn creation and management.
Based on the demo alone, I wouldn't have gotten it myself, but it was a gift (if you can call someone putting five dollars on a pre-order while I pay the rest a gift).
The demo had two extremely easy fights against a tiny amount of enemies in controlled environments. The Chimera being the actual tutorial level and the Griffin being an isolated empty plain with nothing else going on. Even the most mundane of encounters against foes you can generally wipe the floor with can lay you out if you don't keep your guard up. You won't just come across four goblins standing in an open field, you'll more likely be ambushed by two dozen of them attacking from above when you're navigating through a valley. Those constant encounters also leave a lasting effect as you can not simply heal yourself to full without using limited resources or returning to town. The threat of death is high, makes one put more stock into their decisions.
Despite looking quite ordinary, it has so far been one of the best environments to explore in a game in quite a long time, mostly because going off the beaten path is both risky and rewarding and every little corner actually has something of use there. Not to mention the level of mobility you actually have access to with some classes, and the designers obviously taking it into account. While you aren't exactly Ezio Auditore or Cole MacGrath in terms of getting around, you can scale pretty much anything you can reach and find all kinds of neat things on small outcroppings, roofs, narrow ledges and whatnot.
Dragon's Dogma is rough around the edges, but it's that kind of game where even taking the same path or doing the same mission, every person can end up with a unique story to tell about it because there are a lot of little things to pick up on and several ways to go about something. It has a lot of small touches that all come together nicely, many of its elements reflect a classic style of RPG where you needed to prepare before you head out and could not survive staying in hostile territory indefinitely.

Thanks for the mini-review Den, as after playing the demo I've completely ignored this title. I'll be honest and say that I'm getting pretty fed up with demo's that poorly represent the game itself to the point where I'm almost tempted to not bother with them half the time (the demo that is). Resident Evil 5 was a great example of this, I hated the demo but really enjoyed playing through the full game. I'm still a tad wary about DD, but may take a punt when it comes down in price a bit. Thanks again though buddy

I wouldn't recommend it at full price, because of the intended loads of DLC planned (more accurate word would be "prepared") for it, as Dragon's Dogma was a part of Capcom's DLC mania before they said they "have been listening to [players'] comments" on DLC.
You should definitely wait until it goes down in price, and after they release a bunch of their micro transactions to unlock the already-on-disc content.

Rented it, not sure what exactly is going on. Everyone looks like they have a face full of donut. And I accidentally made the lass from the Hunger Games.
Gameplay doesn't seem bad, given that it looks like a mix of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Collossus, given that the only big monsters I've fought I rode like a bronco.
Might be too big for a single rental, but at this rate I'm halfway between wanting to push on, and going back to Dark Souls or Skyrim.

Dark Souls has been one of the biggest PITA's that I've ever played, and that includes ZX Spectrum games with horrible sprite collision...
Even Demon's Souls wasn't as frustrating or tedious...

I feel like it's just a worse version of the Witcher 2.
