Yeah I was wondering if you could use riot shields to test damage. There is a challenge for a riot shield where you can check the damage you have absorbed so far.
1. Record the damage you have taken so far, then join a testing match. 2. Ask the tester to shoot you with the weapon you want to test, at a range that you want to test.
3. Check the damage you have absorbed with your challenge.
If I'm not wrong, the challenge should be named 'Sponge'.
I have searched for any similar topics but should there be a similar one, I apologise in advance.
You are my bro, bro.

That's not bad, actually, though there might be some reason it wouldn't work. It would be a bit of a PITA too since you have to exit the game to check the challenges, so you could only do one hit, then exit. And I considering it has a different challenge for bullets deflected and damage absorbed I'm thinking that when you get a deflection it doesn't count as absorbed. (The bullet ricochet can actually kill after all.)
Deflections could be totally random, but I think they probably depend on angle of incidence. In other words strait on shots probably get absorbed while a shot that skims in at an angle probably get's deflected.
You would have to know for sure.
Anyway it could still be used, but actually is something of a moot point except for testing console vs PC versions for possible discrepancies now. Check out the "damage values from MP log!" thread. Some genius found a log file that tells exactly how much damage is done every time you hit something!!!! We are mere moments away from having all the damage values fully 100% verified, even shotguns! hehee
Once they are, however. It might be a very good idea to use this method to test the console values since there are often just a couple differences between the PC and consoles such as the MP40 in W@W which was 40-29 on PC and 50-29 on console, which made it something of a monster, though with lots of meaty kick. It also made the OHK range in HC mode much longer even with a suppressor.
Anyway, good times.
