In WAW and COD4, even if you breathed, sometimes it seemed to miss... Especially WAW...
On MW2, the snipers' low sway and the sticky aim assist make it like snipers from COD2... Breathing just slows you down. You can do a "drag shot", drag towards the enemy, fire, kill!

I breath in just out of habit right when I scope in, but you are right it isn't needed as much in MW2

I tried sniping a match without breathing at all, but I wound up doing terrible. By the time I regained consciousness, the enemy team had already killed me a dozen times and the match was almost over.

SSOG, were you using the Intervention? Maybe it's an Intervention-specific thing.
I stopped breathing and now, I never miss so long as I'm aiming correctly.
