Putting up great scores with UMP silenced Stinger Semtex Stun Marathon Stopping Power Steady Aim It's way more fast paced than usual with very little tactical loitering.

I tried 3rd person cage match the other day. It was on Terminal, and I quickly found out my opponent was planning to camp on the raised part in the middle, since he got there immediately and had dropped a tac insertion there. I killed him and his insertion three times but he just kept coming back to that spot; after these three kills he killed me once and was again tactical loitering there, so I told him I'd just go camp somewhere else and if he didn't come out of his stupid little hiding spot, I'd win by 3-1. That got his attention, he immediately came down and I killed him again. Afterward, he just continued tactical loitering in the middle area again. Every now and then he crawled across his little roof to the other side but I couldn't hit him since I didn't have a nade anymore and ADS is too inaccurate to hit someone. Instead, I camped right behind the boxes on the airfield, clearly seeing him but from good cover. He never made a move that last 8 minutes of that game and I won 4-1.
Most boring match I've EVER played.

you can always use a sniper for a situation like that. But I'm really not a fan of 3rd person either. Maybe I'll give it a chance when I get bored of everything else in the game. Actually, I'll probably play Bad Company 2 then, but maybe.

chyros: That has NOTHING to do with third person, AT ALL. That has to do with CAGE MATCH. I don't know how you didn't realize that. Two things change, one is a viewpoint change and the other decreases player count by 10, and you blame the boring on the viewpoint change?

I never said cage match is representative of all 3rd person matches, where did you ever get that idea? It's just that cage match was the only 3rd person gametype I ever played, and the only match I've played of that was rather... temperamental, so I just posted my experiences on that match. The only thing I mentioned on 3rd person in general was that ADS in that is very inaccurate, that's all. And that probably has its advantages sometimes, I guess.

Yeah ADS in 3rd person is just a tighter spread than hipfire. My gripe with the ADS in 3rd is that it is off center. If you aim at a target in hipfire and then ADS it pulls your crosshairs off target down and to the right, forcing you to miss. It's not just visual either. If you aim at a wall and single fire you'll form a grouping in the center of your crosshairs though a tad tighter than them. Then if you ADS the crosshairs pull in but also drop down and to the right on the wall. Single fire again and you'll be hitting this spot on the wall instead of the first spot.
So the aim is literally off when you switch.
That's broken...
Sorry, I don't have something against 3rd person in general, but the 3rd person in MW2 is crap. Add to the ADS problem wall hacking and your forward view outside of ADS being blocked by you own avatar and it just tends to be sub par compared to other games with 3rd person. The only use I've found for 3rd person is that it's a lot easier for me to make jumps when I'm exploring a map. ;p I guess it must appeal to some people, but uhhggg... Oh yeah lots of attachments, particularly HBS and probably all the sights are useless.
I don't necessarily object to the way it treats ADS by just tightening the spread instead of going fully precise, though. CS pretty much only let you have full precision on sniper rifles, and that worked fine. You just learn to play the odds. I do like using ADS, though. There's just something very satisfying about actually aiming down the sights of your weapon. It's more immersive.
Gears has a much better 3rd person mode, you almost don't even notice that it's 3rd person and not 1st.
The only other use I've had for MW2 3rd person was to get a good look at exactly where the riot shield goes depending on what you're doing, though I plan to test that out some more in split screen for an even better idea.

The ADS in 3rd person is actually incredibly accurate. (pardon the grammar of this sentence, I can't think of a better way to say it) I'm guessing that it's something along the lines of if a player is in the ADS crosshairs, but bullets are VERY, VERY likely to hit that player. Seriously, I kill people at long range with ARs and SMGs when they just have a tiny bit of them exposed over a wall. It is way more accurate than just being a really tight hip spread.

ADS in 3rd person may be fairly accurate, but it still pulls your crosshairs off target to switch from hip to ADS and back. When you ADS your aim goes down and to the right enough that if I played 3rd person like I do 1st I'd never hit anything since I usually do most of my aiming in hipfire and ADS more for the accuracy than anything. Of course I tweak my aim if I need to, but in 3rd person I would need to aim up and to the left if I'm going to do that, but the real disadvantage of it is in 1st person I can pull my trigger before, during, or after I ADS and I'm still on target. In 3rd person that will not be true so you basically have to commit to either using hip or ADS fire unless you have a second to reaim when you switch.
Though that would be less of a handicap with akimbo terminators. ;p But then... akimbo terminators make up for practically anything. Hell you can practically engage people at AR range with them.
