I know the perk removes the red nametag and crosshairs - does it remove (or reduce) console aim assist as well?

I think taking away your name tag without aim assist is kinda stupid, but, yet again its Infinity Ward were talking about.

Is it possible to use this aim assist to your advantage? I do wonder sometimes how people manage to get some unbelievable kills sometimes... Doesn't seem to help me at all.

It's not noticeable unless you look for it, but there is quite a bit of aim assist in CoD.

...Some times I quickly move my aimer back and forth when I think there's a sniper laying in the grass, and when my aimer slows down for a second I know where he's at Ofc it's not always useful, but sometimes it works wellzor

Ah, so it's more useful for spotting someone as opposed to getting a precise shot?

As for the aim assist in MW2...
Two days ago, I was enjoying a good sniping sequence on top of Highrise's crane.
On the moment I zoomed close to my next target, I noticed my aim slided slightly to reach the poor guy i shot the moment after.
I am pretty sure it was not caused by breathing or anything.
Does anyone has anymore clue about it?

When I'm sniping I find aim assist to be a pain more than anything, if you scope in on someone who comes round a corner then 2 more guys run round the aim assist will pull left or right so instead of you possibly waiting to line up a double or triple it is dragging your shot all over the place.

In the sniper sections, I just scope and sweep until my aim gets sticky, and then I hunt in that area for the snipers.

Yes there is still aim assist
lol. aim assist FAQ time...
yes aim assist exists (all it does is lower your sens when the person you are aiming at is in the aiming area)
no it is not auto aim.
no you cannot turn it off.
no the menu only changes it for single player.
yes it helps a shit load.
yes you still have to aim.
yes i use it to find people in the grass (especially those poppy seed ones)
yes aim assist sucks when you are sniping.
no it does not move bullets, it only moves your screen aiming thing.
no aim assist is not magnetism (where if you are standing still and someone moves across your cross hairs your aim does not move)

Is it possible to use this aim assist to your advantage? I do wonder sometimes how people manage to get some unbelievable kills sometimes... Doesn't seem to help me at all. Use an SMG with low recoil (like the vector, P90, or Mini-Uzi), and try to kill someone moving at long range, maybe wasteland or something. You'll notice it, or the lack thereof. Actually you don't need to kill them, just try to keep your sights on them while they move.

well, yes and no. auto-aim can be completely disabled in COD & W@W (& concieveably MW2) by hacking your gamesave file & flagging all instances of it from 1 (true) to 0 (false).
It is NOT worth doing this. You simply dont realize how big a diff it makes. On controllers it's probably 50% of your ability to actually hit anything. Even with me using an xim any time Ive disabled it you never get with 25% of the accuracy you previously had. For example, with it flagged to true in COD4 im a 20-21% accuracy player WITHOUT sniping to artificially bring it up. Flagging it false I shoot 14-15%. If I can't shoot better than 15% with it enabled with a damn mouse, how do you expect to shoot 12% with a controller???
when you stand still and someone runs across your screen, it does "track/follow" that person inside your hip-fire spread provided they are inside the weapon's auto-aim range.
auto-aim does NOT final place the bullet for you, but it DOES move the game faster than you can see when you send the fire command.
normally on console it takes 3 frames @ 60fps (sometimes 4) for the fire command to be read & the game visually showing you that the weapon has fired the first time. In the 1-3 frames between that auto-aim will MASSIVELY accellerate your movement speed towards the target and provide the connecting shot.
The problem is that it simply happens so fast (sub 25ms) that it's not visible until you watch playbacks of it frame by frame.
I always intended to take several kills in this video and loop-play them on an ever slower basis until they are frame by frame so that it can be made clear what auto-aim does.
AFA cod4 went (not sure if it changed afterwards) auto-aim also worked through walls. I got PLENTY of auto-aim flick shot hits/kills on hidden players (through walls).

no reduction in autoaim. ive never had problems hitting ppl with CBP via regular or thermal. just takes their white thermal texture off & no box on the heli/ac130u.
i ALWAYS shoot the CBP guys first from a killstreak too. nothing more than to piss them off lol

I get the part where you can feel the target move side to side, effectively following the enemy. But I don't get the part about it making your shots more accurate. The amount of times I've shot at a non-moving target, and nearly all of my magazine has just brushed inches to one side of the enemy. How can this be getting help from an aim assist?

there has to be movement and it doesn't always help.
you just cant feel it with a controller, but with a mouse it helps 75% and keeps u from getting 25% of your kills.
watch that video and youll see quite afew misses where it looks like my aim stalls out right besides the target. that's when it hurts you. it like pushes you off the target and you just cant feel it on a joystick.
1:24 = miss b/c the AA stalled me out 1:33: A = ungodly auto-aiming flick shot kill B = AA stalled my aiming out again & i missed b/c i just couldn't push the sight over it happens. it just happens so fast that you can't even tell it without playing on an xim. im not god or anything, i just know what i feel and have confirmed it a gabilliondy times from watching videos in slow-mo / frame by frame when editing.

when it hurts you, its like pushing against a wall, or a big deadzone on the controller. until you "break" passed it, it wont allow you much movement what so ever.
end result is that by the time you realize it, you've missed the opportunity to get that kill on a bolt-action/3 burst (wait till the next shot)

Ah! Perhaps that might explain when sometimes I find all my shots with a low recoil weapon like the ACR, just wizz inches past the enemy. And I'm fairly sure I made the correct movement to have the sights perfectly in the middle of the enemy.
