So as the topic states im interested in what counts as a hit and what counts as a miss. So my friend and i hav started testing various things.
What I have Confirmed...
1. Primary weapons, machine pistols, and pistols count as either a hit or a miss depending on whether you hit or miss a person.
2. Shotguns count as either one hit or one miss regardless of the fact that they shoot 6 or 8 pellets.
3. Knife Kills count as hits AND a negative miss, as well as each hit with the shield. This only happens if you have misses to spare, it is as if you move a miss to the hits if you get a knife kill. Random knives that dont kill dont have an effect. If you have no misses a knife kill will not count as a hit or miss.
4. Skill tubes count as neither regardless. 5. Spraying at air support counts as misses, despite the fact that you get "X"s for hitting them.
6. Equipment does not affect accuracy.
7. Secondary grenades do not affect accuracy.
8. Air support, both player controlled and AI controlled, don't affect accuracy at all.
9. Launchers, such as the AT4 and Javelin affect hits and misses accordingly, a hit will count as a hit and a blatant miss will count as a miss.
You are my bro, bro.

Okay I just played a game in which I got 5 knife kills 1 random knife(knifed a window to be exact), and shot down 2 air support. before the match I had 23965 hits, and 16935 misses. I ended up with 23970 hits and 16932 misses. It looks like shooting down air support and knifing windows counts as negative misses? Gonna do more testing.

Just played another game, got 2 knife kills, knifed 5 windows. and missed 1 knife. I ended up with 23972 hits, 16930 misses. I see where the 2 hits came from, but by knifing 5 windows and missing 1 knife i should have 4 less misses... Maybe I'm missing something? Update: Knife kills count as a hit and a miss, i made a new account to try this, I went from 27-6 to 30-3... strangely enough if you have 0 hits and misses a knife kill will no affect either. Also shotguns count as 1 hit or miss, despite the fact that they shoot 6 or 8 pellets

well now that you have your new account to test on try noob toobs, seeing whether a kill counts as a hit, a hit counts as a hit, and a total miss counts as a miss. Also Javelins/other launchers. Throwing knives, grenades... anything else you can think of?

And test multikills with shotguns, explosives, and bullets penetrating multiple enemies. ;p

Fantastic idea, a bit harder to test tho, we'll get back to it.

I always wondered how so many people's stats showed 100% accuracy, with figures such as 23000 hits, and 0 misses. Thanks for that.

Also consider that many of those people boost.

Boosting is for example you and a friend doing cage match together and instead of actually fighting just allowing each other to blow up explosives or get headshots or whatever it is you want to boost. It's a cheap way to get exp or complete challenges without actually earning the rewards.

I find it mildly annoying because it cheapens the prestige value of the stuff you earned legitimately, and allows people to unlock things artificially quickly, but ultimately it doesn't stop me from playing the game how I want to and I don't much fear some guy that just boosted to get up the levels so he can use terminators as he may have access to a great weapon before I do, but will lack the skill to make the best use of it. It's still not a fair advantage he gained, but meh... Levels and weapons in MW2 are not the same as in an RPG where you are completely and utterly helpless and outclassed by higher levels.
In those cases exploiters should have characters deleted or reset and be banned, permanently for really egregious cases.
