I have an old gaming rig my ex-step dad passed down to me 2 years ago that I've decided to start using for older games. After getting TF2 to run smoothly I wanted to see if the girl could handle MW1. The system requirements lab claimed I can, and with this in mind I tried out the demo. With most of the settings turned fairly low, the demo ran wonderfully. What I want to know is: 1. Will this optimal performance persist in the rest of the single player, or was this particular level (The Bog) just not system intensive? 2. Is the multiplayer anymore taxing on the system? I have an above average internet connection, so issues relating to lag shouldn't occur. My system specifications: Radeon 9800 PRO (That's what the device manager says, system requirements lab is calling it an "ATI Radeon Graphics Processor AGP" ) P4 3.00 Ghz 2GB Ram This is an almost 7 year old computer. I'm surprised it's capable of even running the MW1 demo, let alone running it smoothly. Thank you my bros.

Multiplayer maps are less resource hungry, so if you got on fine in the single player mode, you will be fine in multiplayer. Simples.

Also, den said that MW2 is much more optimized (I assume this is that texture streaming thing) so I would assume that you would get an even bigger improvement over COD4 multiplayer.
related question:
Is there a com_maxfps lock hidden somewhere in the game? I can't find anything in the mp_config file and I can't get above 90ish FPS with my xfire FPS counter. Is it a problem with xfire?
Anyone know of a good program that works with win 7 and shows the FPS correctly?

Yes, there is a command in COD4. It's set to 90fps by default IIRC. I used to know the command, but I can't remember off the top of my head anymore. I'm sure Google will come in handy. I use Fraps for displaying in-game FPS.

Oh, IIRC, by setting it to 0, you turn off the limit alltogether...

Makes sense in retrospect though. Well, thank you my bro. I feel a lot more comfortable about making the 40$ plunge on Steam for the game. One more question: Considering most PC players despise MW2's lack of dedicated servers, it safe to say a lot of people just stuck to playing MW1 multiplayer. Therefore, I shouldn't have any issues finding a game, right?

WaW is excellent for multiplayer too IMO.

com_maxfps
According to what I've heard, one of the patches capped the fps to 91. So you can no longer "unlock" it.
