On the bright side Dice stated that they wanted mod tools; that's got to count for something. If that's true either they're not certain that they can pull it off and don't want to ruin their streak of solid PR, EA intervened on this matter, or they're just too busy and can't devote enough resources to something of such low priority. Maybe in a parallel universe the next Counter-Strike or Day-Z was made using the Frostbite 2.0 engine, who really knows? Overall slightly disappointing news, but definitely not surprising.

Yeah EA really doesn't like it when people tinker with BF. A while back people created a colour tweaker mod because of the sickening amounts of washed out blues and greys in the game, but then EA started banning people for it, calling the mod "hacks"

Because the color teweaker was also able to mod weapon files and etc. Then a second color tweaker was released that only modded the colors, and they said it was ok to use. I don't know much about the subject though, I play on the ps3

According to Levelcap the Engineer class will now have PDWs for primary weapons. Universal weapons are now Designated Marksman Rifles , carbines, and shotguns. In terms of who gets what kind of primary weapon nothing else has changed.

So I can play Recon with carbines/shotguns and C4, and Medic with DMRs. Awesome. Unless the AT4 or a similar launcher is back, the Engi will be my new least played class.

With carbines being all-kit, they must get some edge over assault rifles now. In BF3 they were strictly inferior assault rifles for the most part
Or PDWs and carbines just swap positions and PDWs are the inferior class

I would strongly recommend not watching this video. Because of a silly editing mistake loud music drowns out the amateur-level commentary partway through the video. According to MongolFPS Sniper Rifles and LMGs will be the only weapons in the game that can suppress enemies. Sensor grenades from BFBC2 are back and available for recon only. C4s are available on recon, but they might be available on every class. His final point was that sniper rifles can now have multiple zoom levels on them.

Sensor grenades from BFBC2 are back and available for recon only. This is the best decision yet! BC2 Recon is back, and with even more toys. This will be my new go-to class. Also, with the mentioned suppression tweak, BF4 is looking better and better every day. I only watched a bit of the video (up until the audio issue you mentioned), but I doubt I was missing much. Whoever was playing that Recon was...bad.

I just noticed at ~4:40 onward MongolFPS refers to the player as 'he' a lot; implying that this is someone else's gameplay. Besides the motion sensor I think the other big thing that held back the recon class from being more aggressive were the semi-auto snipers. With only 10 rounds it was hard being aggressive with those guns. I have seen Levelcap using a semi-auto sniper in one of his videos which held 20+1 rounds. Assuming nothing else has changed with semi-auto snipers since then I'd consider that a step in the right direction.

Recon?
Screw that. I'm going Spec-Op. C4 + silenced carbine

Yeah, and that's why the SKS (even without hbar) and M417 are the only semi-autos worth a damn currently. On that note here's hoping they're willing to actually balance the weapons, instead of just slapping on universal damage and calling it a day.

Oh. Still, it would have been hilarious if this guy talked about himself in the third person throughout the video.

Levelcap's latest video (titled "BF4 Weapon Attachments & Field Upgrades!") revealed the following about weapon attachments: There are two sets of "Field Upgrades" that are designed to replace Squad Perks: they're broken down into Offensive and Defensive perks. In the video Lv 1 - Suppression Resistance, Lv 2 - Extra Grenade, Lv 3 Explosive Resistance, Lv 4 Heal Faster without a med pack Loadout screens will look something like this: A bit like Battlefield 3, except you can have a "shank" for a knife, and an incendiary grenade instead of a frag.

Pistols will have to "make do" with 3 attachments? Aw yeah.
I was wondering about the green laser. Aside from being more attractive (imo), one would have to assume it has some sort of advantage if it doesn't blind as well as the regular laser. Or maybe that's just it, and it's for people who are too lazy to turn their laser off when shooting at range. I sure hope not. And incendiaries? Really? Instead of the smokes nearly everyone is begging for? Maybe it will be Recon only or something, but I still really want smoke grenades. Anyway, inceniaries might be nice; assuming we still can't cook frags. Oh how I want to cook frags...

Maybe you can unlock a laser sight that rapidly changes its colour in an attempt to dazzle the enemy it's being pointed at. This would be an adequate replacement for the scrapped disco grenade.

Yes. Jets should also have a rainbows trailing behind them; like Nyan Cat.

Somehow Jackfrags was able to post 40+ minutes of unabridged pre-alpha gameplay from Battlefield 4 and get away with it. You'll see loadout menus, some of the options menu and all sort of other crazy bull spit like improved vehicle physics. That's right, you can do wheelies in this game now. Anyways you can pull out your pistol while swimming, pop a few rounds from the hip, put it away, then hold crouch to go underwater. It's also been confirmed that you can only counter a knife attack when the enemy is in front of you and you are crouched or standing.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but the UI is an improvement. Looks like you can throw C4 a bit farther now. That wheezing sound the soldier makes will get old fast. Speaking of old, we still have the same death animation. Some weapons sound good, some eh. M26 is back, which is nice. Overall, it looks great so far.
Although I saw one glaring flaw: whose bright idea was it to give Support a grenade launcher? A semi-auto grenade launcher even?! Hello explosives spam...

It hasn't been mentioned in this specific thread, but it's definitely a step forward. I liked the aesthetic appeal of the glowing characters in BF3; I'm under the impression that a lot of people did. Then people started complaining and switching to colour-blind mode a couple of months in. In BF4 I like how the semi-transparent backing on the ammo and score counter are now black; the contrast with the white text just makes it look sharper.
It took a while for me to notice that, but it would be nice if those animations changed up a little. It's interesting how Battlefield insists on staying in first-person mode upon dying to prevent "ghosting". Games like CoD and Halo are programmed to have the camera go into third person, pointing towards the player's killer upon death.
That's a major 1UP by me. It doesn't seem like it can be thrown as far as BC2 C4, but at least all classes can carry it again.
For a launcher with 4+1 rounds in it, it probably has a really small explosive radius and/or deals less than 100 damage. It would be pretty silly for Dice to make a balancing mistake that big after coming along this far into the series; we'll just have to keep an eye on that.
