E3 Gameplay Siege of Shanghai (mostly just a quick rehash of the E3 video) Commander Mode In case some people don't subscribe to Battlefield on Youtube. Looks good to me so far. Just some notes on things I saw: -Better destruction. I have to admit the pillar/ceiling with the tank was cool, and the skyscraper was impressive. -No more spotting and shooting. Annoying, but I'll get used to it I'm sure. -Dual sights/scopes. -Jet-ski "escape pods" for boats. -Working elevators. -Buildings shake/sway under fire. -Counter-knife? Seems like it. -DICE devs must be tactical players, because they walk everywhere. -Commander mode on tablets. "Play" BF4 on the go. Feel free to add something if I missed it.

Why do my games never look like this? Also, Mouse has competition.

Commanderp mode is gonna be sick. Although I can foresee a lot of people blaming losses on a bad commander, considering all the vital decisions they are in charge of.
Dat skyscraper collapse.

I don't get why there's 5 people in one squad in the E3 demo. Is the commander that special, or is 5 the new 4?

Yeah, now it's a squint instead of squad.
Also I'm guessing the only way to counter knife is if it's from the front, which is already something new. If people could just hop around front knifing everyone, people would be pissed. So, instead of the developers completely disabling the front knife idea (which would be a stupid move, if you knifed in BF3 you know how many times that shit failed because the enemy turned around in the last minute), they added a counter.

And I can't believe none of you noticed the recon was the one who planted the C4 on the tank on the first video

So does anybody think they will reveal a new class? Not like commander, but one where you're in the battle on the ground

Not like commander, but one where you're in the battle on the ground Nope, in the ~60 leaked screenshots they revealed all the classes and it's the standard 4. It does look like you'll be able to customize your class more, though. Like some gadgets will be cross-class.

I'm happy with 5-man squads. Two medics and you're good to go.

Hey, I see that airburst grenade launcher thingie too. Cool
Ammo counter seems to imply limmited ammo though (at some point it said 1/4 and went down to 1/3) MGs seem unlimited
One thing thats exciting is how the console version finally seem to get some parity with PC. That's gonna be so much better for both platforms

That map, the underground/subway section, looks exactly like BF3's demo map, the French subway.
Same stuff.

Yeah, there are definitely no mind blowing changes visually speaking, however there are a few new major aspects and a bunch of minor changes. Off the top of my head: Ability to collapse massive buildings (and on that note destruction capabilities in general have increased tenfold) Commander mode (rehash, yes, but vastly improved, also accessible by tablet) Spectator mode Swimming/diving 5 man squads 64 player for console Counter knifing Class abilities have been tweaked More things to interact with in the maps (buttons and what not) Plus there will obviously be more uncovered once the game is released. Now could all of those things been implemented in BF3? Probably, but that's to be expected of FPS giants.

The collapsed building under C-Flag must have been an inside-job. A bajillion megatons of firepower couldn't destroy any other building on the map, but suddenly a bunch of missiles and a mocap dog were able to blow up that one skyscraper in the middle of the map. This must have been a controlled demolition.

Yeah, probably only that building could be felled that completely.

Funny you of all people are the first to come with that complaint Gameplay-wise it looks like BF3 too but in reality it seems very refined. If the map design is anything to go by it looks like weapon ranges are longer/maps less crammed more changes than dogs, anyhow

Reloading your weapon in hardcore mode forces you to discard every remaining bullet in your magazine.
According to Levelcap squad perks have changed. Similar to pointstreaks in Call of Duty the squad as a whole earns points as its members help out their squad by role-playing their class. Resupplying, spotting, healing; stuff like that will accumulate towards the squad's pointstreak. The streak resets in the event of a squad wipe.

I think they should use the system Red Orchestra uses instead, where you just set that magazine to the back of your inventory. when you get to the mag, it'll say something like "new magazine is heavy" or "new magazine is light" depending on how many bullets you had left in it when you changed mags. I guess since the HUD is still there, they wouldn't need to say the weight of it, just the idea that you keep the magazines for later instead of dropping one. it's kind of good though, because it makes it so people won't reload with 25/30 bullets left so often and players need to watch the reloads
this game is really looking great though, I'm glad that there will be an XM25, I loved that thing in MW3 and it'll probably be even better in BF4 with destruction

Resupplying, spotting, healing; stuff like that will accumulate towards the squad's pointstreak. The streak resets if everyone on the squad dies. Hopefully that stays HC only. I'm too much of a compulsive reloader. Squad pointstreaks sounds interesting. Does that mean the bonuses are determined by the class, or do we still pick our own perks/streaks? The XM family of weapons are hideously ugly abominations.

I liked Battlefield for the most part. I would give it a thumbs up. I didn't feel it was as good as CoD though, and I didn't have any friends playing it. So it kind of collected dust after i bought it. I'll probably get the next one too,

I guess that mechanic was enforced in HC because of the lower health. Fewer bullets to kill generally means fewer bullets used in every engagement; thus support becomes less useful in HC. This mechanic was cleverly implemented to make player burn through ammo faster, and more importantly ensured that the support class' utility role remained useful in HC.
In the same video by Levelcap, he also said that each player gets to choose the order in which they can acquire their squad perks. I'm not sure whether this means: 1) Each individual squad member gets to pick out the order of their squad perks, or 2) The squad leader gets to pick out the order of squad perks for everyone on the squad. For the sake of clarity; Levelcap said that everyone levels up at the same time. If one guy has reached level 2 in their squad perks that always means everyone else on the squad reachs level 2.
