Is anyone else playing The Last of Us multiplayer? I've been pleasantly surprised at the gameplay depth and the fun factor for what I assumed would just be a tacked-on feature.
Some of the highlights:
Normally after playing a game for a day or two I can usually pick up on the flaws in a game, such as certain weapons or strategies that are open to abuse, but so far I've been very impressed by this game. All the weapons are very well balanced and have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the weapons that are obviously superior have to be purchased with in game currency ala Counter-Strike and come with very scarce ammo supplies (even more so than the default weapons). I haven't run into any spawn tactical loitering and most games come down to the wire, with some very interesting tactical shootouts and other situations. Gameplay overall is very intense feeling, not unlike the single player game. I recommend anyone with the taste for a completely unique multiplayer experience to give it a try.
Some of the highlights:
- All games are 4 vs 4 with two modes: a tickets w/limited respawns mode and a no respawn mode.
- 4 custom class slots where you choose your primary, secondary, "perks", etc. All perks, perk sub-levels, weapons and other bonuses have a point cost. Each player starts with a set number of points and he/she can allocate them however they want.
- Players earn in-game "currency" ala Counter-Strike to purchase additional upgrades, ammo and body armor.
- Players can salvage resources and parts to build medic kits, molotovs and other in-game devices using the crafting system from single-player.
- Ammo and resources are scarce and upgrades are costly, so resource management plays a major part of in-game strategy.
- Large emphasis on stealth and penalties for performing "loud" actions such as sprinting or firing and unsilenced weapon.
- All the maps I've played have been interesting, not too large or too small, and fit well to the theme of the game.
- Similar to uncharted multiplayer, players are "downed" through normal means and while in a "downed" state, can be revived by teammates or executed by hostiles for additional resources.
- Character customization, including emblem, hats and gestures.
- Includes an interesting metagame where you play the leader of a band of surviviors and depending on how you perform in-game challenges such as reviving a certain number of players, making a certain number of headshots, etc.
