Has anyone here played Happy Wars? It's a free 3D arena-brawler available on the Xbox Live Arcede. The following post describes Happy Wars briefly. If you know what it's all about then just skip it and post your thoughts, experiences, discussions on the game, etc.
Back-story on how I started playing Happy Wars:
Every few months my friends and I have these "COD-fests" where 5 of us all take our TVs, Xboxs, etc to one guy's house and we just stay up all night playing COD until the next evening; ordering pizza, eating ice-cream at 4am, whatever the hell we want. Anyway, back in February one of my friends found Happy Wars for free on the Xbox Live Arcade at 3am and convinced us all to get it. We played it for the next few weeks, forgot about it for a few months, but now we play it almost all the time.
The game itself:
The game is described as a 3D arena-brawler and I think watching gameplay would be the best way to understand what it is. There is a brief single-player mode, but the game is intended to be played multiplayer, 15 vs 15. It's basically a cartoony fighting game that requires your team to take control of the map, construct spawn towers at designated areas around the map, then storm the enemy castle to destroy their Big Tower. There are three classes to choose from: Warrior, Mage and Cleric. Warriors get up-close and personal with powerful melee attacks, Mages cast offensive elemental spells that each have their own unique effects, and Clerics provide support to team-mates such as healing and weapon buffs.
Each time you play matches you earn Happy Stars to spend on new weapons/armour, weapon/armour modifications, weapon/armour level-ups, etc. You can also spend Microsoft Points on Happy Tickets to spend on Happy Cards, which give a lot of super-awesome gear. Happy Tickets can also be used in place of Happy Stars if you want to for some reason. Essentially this creates a pay-to-win system, but there is a mode called Co-Op in which you only fight AI opponents. And even against other higher-levelled players it's not always a mega stomping. The vast majority of games start without full teams, and the remaining spaces are filled by AI bots, so you can just aim for them if you want to.
Personally I just think it has a fun, cartoony atmosphere and the game is GREAT at making you feel good, even when you're playing terrible. There are always pop-ups on the left-hand side saying "[PlayerName built 3 towers! AMAZING!" or "[PlayerName] got 5 kills in a row! MARVELOUS!". There's also a lot of joke gear such as rubber chicken swords, bird nest helmets, tin-can helmets, wooden stick swords, etc. It's just funny and light-hearted.
I could go on, but I don't know what else to write. I Foxtrotting love Happy Wars!
