Hi, everyone.
Having been a big fan of the M16 in CoD4, I was disappointed to find that its recoil is worse than the FAMAS's in MW2. (You can test this by using the ACOG on both guns and observing the spray pattern that results: the FAMAS's pattern is consistently more streamlined than the M16's).
This discrepency is not limited to the ACOG. It is harder to observe by firing it with the RDS attached to both guns (as RDS recoil is less than ACOG generally), but the difference is still present.
So I was feeling disappointed. Out of pure hope, I tried the Holographic sight on the M16 and compared it to the M16 with RDS. I was surprised to find that the M16 with the Holographic sight had a significantly tighter spray pattern than the M16 with RDS.
I then compared this to the FAMAS Holographic's pattern and the FAMAS RDS's pattern. It seemed to me, after at least ten tests at different ranges (each test using at least 90 bullets), that these two and the M16 with Holographic were all superior to the M16 with RDS.
With regards to M16 Holographic vs. FAMAS Holographic vs. FAMAS RDS, I found it hard to pick an obvious winner. But every time, all three were superior to the M16 RDS.
Unfortunately, I cannot easily provide any pictoral evidence, as I play on XBOX. If anyone else could back me up on this, that'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

m16 is less accurate because it's actual rate of fire is slower. the shots fall higher up during the recoil animation

Also, I have tested bursting them both simultaneously in-game, and found no difference. While this testing is not water-tight, it is consistent with Den's information. Also, if ROF was the cause of the difference, then why is there a difference between the M16 Holographic and the M16 RDS? They share the same ROF, after all, so, by your reasoning, they should have the same recoil. My testing suggests otherwise.

I just did a quick ten minute test using this hypothesis and I believe you may be correct. I got similar results -- on Xbox. The M16 RDS seemed to fire with intense upward recoil and intense side recoil. The M16 using holo seemed to have a more circular bullet trajectory in terms of recoil.
In other words, I shot an area from short, medium, and long ranges using both RDS and holo. The holo has more consistent bullet landing in accordance to recoil.
As for the FAMAS, I used no attachments and found that it seems to have random recoil after all shorts after the initial shot after ADS.

Is the Famas RDS different when compared to the Famas Holo?

Is the Famas RDS different when compared to the Famas Holo? I did have a look, but I couldn't find any clear, consistent distinction. I would imagine that the discrepency remains with the M16 alone, probably because of the popularity and (unfortunately) OPed complaints in CoD4 of the M16 RDS combination. (I do intend to compare the M16 Holo and the FAMAS Holo and RDS more in the future, by the way, but if anyone else could have a go as well, that'd be very greatly appreciated.)
