Valve is becoming very Microsoft-esque. Coming up with "cool" things (to them) that nobody actually wants. Steam OS and SteamBox will be more trouble to work with and more expensive than a regular console or an open PC.

I love the idea of upgrading a gaming console, but I don't see a big selling point besides that, how is this different from what they offer today? An "Operating System" that only plays games that will probably cost more than a traditional console seems odd. I must be thinking very lineally right now.

Even then that controller announcement is by far the most interesting thing we've seen from all the 3 "announcements" I mean, we actually get to see how the bloody thing is supposed to look like for once
Trackpads are nice, but I really wonder if they're dead serious about making RTSs and their biggest current game (dota) playable on this thing. Seems impossible
edit: thing looks hideous though but who cares about that
edit^2: that button placement looks terrible how would you press the X and Y button (the ones at the lower corners of the touchscreen) without moving your entire hand. Looks uncomfortable

What about the price of that? 2 trackpads and a high res clickable touch screen. 100 dollars easily.

Fun fact: the NSA was not shut down or defunded. When people say "Shutdown" they don't really mean shutdown, who knew? Scare tactics, plain and simple.

They didn't shut down everything in the entire country jaedrik. Only things not deemed "essential" because those had already been approved for funding. Valve is becoming very Microsoft-esque. Coming up with "cool" things (to them) that nobody actually wants. Steam OS and SteamBox will be more trouble to work with and more expensive than a regular console or an open PC. Really? This seems like classic Valve to me. Remember how everyone hated Steam for the first year or two after it was released? Yet here we are today. The typical Valve business strategy follows this pattern: - Develop a long-term strategy that coincides with the release of an often revolutionary new product
- Release a mediocre product that generally disappoints the expectations of their fans and fails to fulfill the vision put forward
- Gradually evolve and improve their product over time
- After some time has gone by, eventually end up with the high-quality product that fulfills their original vision and [often] pioneers news ground for the gaming industry
