Just curious. I don't auto enough to know what works well with it and what doesn't, mainly because running around causing havoc and punching pilots into red mist (best rodeo defense) is too much fun.
(Speaking of... I actually wish pilots didn't just dissolve when you punch them. It would be more visceral and satisfying to send them ragdolling across the map at breakneck [literally] speed. Maybe if there were more blood and gibs it'd be fine, but as is they just barely poof. I still love doing it, but it's more the concept of punching them that I love.)

I found the "Guardian Ship" (pilot option, but you had to give up Minion Detector) + Arc Cannon is a great combo for letting your auto titan get you some free pilot kills.
Also, with this option, if you are in your Titan and a pilot is trying to rodeo you, you can quickly get out and attack the pilot from two angles: yourself and the (extremely deadly) auto titan. It's very difficult for the opposing pilot to survive the double team. If he is in cloak, toss an arc grenade so your titan can see him.

How are autotitans with the various ordinances and tactical abilities? (Assuming they use them. I think I've at least seen them use vortex shield, but I could be completely wrong.) I'm guessing they don't use their core abilities, or do they?

Auto titans definitely use vortex shield, I see that all the time. I think that I might have seen auto titans using smoke, but personally I have never observed an usage of particle wall.

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen an auto titan use particle wall either. Then again, that could be down to selection bias. I rarely see any piloted titans use it either.

In my experience Particle Wall has been a popular choice. At least for me I prefer it more than Vortex Shield, especially on maps with defined lanes.

The autotitan will use any of the three tactical abilities. However, as a rodeo'd autotitan shuts itself down (kneels), smoke is probably a bad choice. He will still use it offensively (try to trap enemy titans and grunts in it), but can't use it to stop a rodeo. I'd go with the vortex shield, he seems to use that the best.
I haven't given all weapons an equal amount of time to truly test it, but the arc cannon does seem to give you the most pilot kills when you leave your titan in autotitan mode. The quad rocket and triple thread do quite well too (splash damage for if the pilot is good at parkour)
It will not use core abilities and it will not dash, so the Ogre chassis is the no-brainer here. (keep in mind that the Ogre still has a slower movement speed, even without dashing)
Any ordnance will work fine. I like the cluster missle or the rocket salvo.
For kits, use regen booster and survivor. All of the others would be useless in autotitan mode.

i have only seen an auto titan use particle wall once and i can't say it used it effectively. so as will said probably best stick to vortex, as it happens the setup i use is the one he just described.i can't say i noticed a huge improvement using guardian chip, has anyone found it to be beneficial.

Guardian Chip definitely gives a HUGE improvement. I get at least 2 or 3 times as many pilot kills with it on. And your Titan will kill all of the grunts it sees (without it, he seems to ignore them over half the time). This is vital in Attrition.

I'll have to give the guardian chip another go maybe cos it's a late unlock i didn't give it enough of a chance.

Yeah I want to try it some more, myself. I wish I'd done it earlier. Seems like a decent thing to do while you're grinding minion kills for a weapon, though it being a late unlock you could have already done those. heh
I was lazy and didn't specifically grind out my minion kills so I only had everything unlocked on the weapons I really liked and that formed a feedback loop where I didn't use those weapons as much because they didn't have things unlocked, ect... Now I'm making a real effort to grind them out which is much easier since I can name my classes so I have been adding a few letters to the names of classes with weapons that still need some farming to let me know what to farm. (eg. "fG" to farm Grunts and "fG/S/P" to farm grunts spectres and pilots.) I find if I'm aware of it I actually finish my farming pretty quickly.
Now to do the same for my titan weapons, though I've pretty much settled into Triple Play with extended mags as my fav weapon. For some reason I've not really enjoyed quad rockets as much as others seem to. I think it's just that they don't feel beefy to me more than anything. I have had some success with autotitan and the triple play as well. Once I had to AFK for a phone call so I stuck him in guard mode and crouched nearby in a corner. I think he nearly survived until I got back and I only died once he was no longer there as a distraction (in fact I had just hung up and started playing again when somebody finally noticed me. I think it might have even got some kills, though I'm not sure. I didn't check the scoreboard before and after to know.
Anyway, some good info here. I'll have to try the chip on one of my triple play titans as well.

The guardian chip really comes into play grinding from G8 to G9, because you need to get 100 wins. You will literally be level 50 for 90% of your time spent on that generation. It's probably the best time to do the "unlock everything" achievement - so you don't have to regrind it when you reach 10th generation (as I am stuck doing now).
