Minecraft will, like all games, die eventually but what will Majong do? Will they make Minecraft 2.0? Or just abandon it?

As of now they are still constantly updating Minecraft and mods are still being developed ect. I don't see the game dying off like most where the developer moves on, stops updating, and eventually fans get bored without new content. Mojang seems committed to continue supporting and developing the game as long as it remains popular.
I don't know that a sequel makes much sense. There's no storyline to continue for one. Also what would be the timing? Developing it while the community for the original is still so strong would only split the community, and the new game would have to compete with the original. But then if you wait for people to get bored of MC would there be any point making a sequel? I think what Mojang is doing makes sense. They have a few people that still work pretty much full time on MC and the rest are working on other projects.
I know Minecraft can't last forever, although right now I honestly can't imagine what it will take to kill it. Even another game that does everything MC does but better probably wouldn't make a dent and isn't likely. Some games have done aspects of MC better. But most games that try to be MC++ are complete rubbish. MC like TES games has so much user generated content it's basically self sustaining. I suppose if Mojang let it die eventually it would. They could even use Bethesda's business model and bring out a new iteration with new graphics and features ripe for modding a few times per decade and be huge. But, I kinda don't see that happening.
I will say this, however. There is one reason I would very much LOVE to see a new Minecraft. It would be really really nice if they made it in C++ and abandoned Java. Yeah, sure, it would change the modding scene and they'd have to actually add a modding architecture to the game like Notch said they would. But it would be so much better.
Part of me thinks it will never happen, though. I just can't see Minecraft 2 ever actually existing. Something will rise up to take it's place, but I feel like it will come from someone else, maybe even the community it-self.

Mahjong's been around since 500 BC; it'll probably last another 2500 years. Lol. But seriously, why would they need a Minecraft sequel? There's nothing to expand in the storyline/lore beyond just updating to have a longer 'optional main questline'. Any mechanical improvements to the game are already being done through updates, and the variety of modes offers something for a massive range of gamers. It would take a wildly different approach to voxel-based sandboxes to even compete with Minecraft. Nothing lasts forever; but that doesn't mean it can't last a really long time. Unlike many other games where the environment resets at the end of every match into a set configuration Minecraft has its players investing in the game moreso than your average shooter/sports game. The player-base is meant to build a world to play with others; if they make friends with other players in that world it makes that investment even harder to steer away from. Making a sequel would be as nonsensical as making World of Warcraft 2. It's hard to say what will happen when Minecraft eventually dies. I guess if Minecraft doesn't come back down to slam another out of the park its internet following will slowly dissipate. Players will probably go to roughly related games, and life goes on while Notch giggles at all the failed attempts at voxel-based sandboxes that tried to grab its coat tails. That being said the thought of "Minecraft with guns" has yet to see an outstanding execution.

I've seen some gun mods for Minecraft, but not been terribly impressed. I think they rely too much on Minecrafts inherent mechanics rather than creating new ones and Minecraft is not well suited to it. You can mod the bow tons, but it still doesn't feel right. I think there is at least one or two interesting ones, though. I'd like to see Doom weaponry in Minecraft, preferably with built in gore and gibs as well. ;3
Also... When I play Minecraft now you have no idea how badly I want to parkour around since I started playing Titanfall. lol I REALLY miss it when I can't do it... Somebody get on that!
