Give me a heavy machine gun that sounds like the M60 so I can chugchugchugchugchugchug all the way home! The Swarm is pretty close.

I recommend the zombie apocalypse from the crucible vendor, its downright amazing. Investing in a great heavy is a very smart decision.

Give me a heavy machine gun that sounds like the M60 so I can chugchugchugchugchugchug all the way home! That would be The Swarm. It starts off with a small clip but this can be upgraded to increase more from 35 to 64 (I think). I have two of them, one given as an engram and the other for reaching Vanguard Rank 3 with my Hunter.

Too bad all weapons of the same class look almost identical each other. Except for exotics. But they make up less than maybe 1% of the total guns, so yay little to no weapon visual/audio variation.

I guess it's nice in that it makes me want to get exotics and I don't waste time on making my character look cool.

I had hoped for a lot more character customization to be honest. As is you get one cosmetic item, but other than hunter cloaks they are pretty small, especially the Warlock armbands. Other than that picking a shader is really about the only choice you get unless you're willing to sacrifice stats... and even then eventually you're going to want legendaries to advance beyond 20 and about the most choice you have there is maybe picking a faction... but that also makes stat choices so you really can't just choose your look. Maybe eventually we'll get more choice...

Considering the low amount of different character model, it should be much easier in this game to create additional armor/ weapons.

I don't think that people need to worry about the lacking in the aspect of "looking cool".
Currently, people are focusing on getting their level to 30, so customization is not a main goal, yet. Once there are a lot of players at level 30, Bungie will put out more armor/shader/ for cosmetic purpose, through timed events (which are available to all players), and Expansion Packs (which are only available to expansion buyers). The style related elements will be one of the primary incentives used by Bungie to get player to keep playing.
The contest among players will switch from "who have the higher level" to beauty/style contest soon enough.
