psychlon: You can always solo the weekly strikes if you can't/don't want to find another player or two to run through it with you, or if you just like a challenge. Sweet, will try that.

Fair warning: it might take a while. I did the level 22 weekly with my level 21 Warlock solo last night and it took 45 minutes or so even with upgraded exotic and legendary weapons I moved over from my 28 Hunter. It will take a lot less time if you're at the same or higher level than the enemies.
Every stage of this one in easily cheese-able if you're patient. For the first part, the 3x wave defense, just stay back behind the tanker in the green tunnel thing leading underground. You can pick everything off pretty easily and nothing will ever come after you except for the occasional thrall that's not much of a threat, just watch out for snipers. For the Devil Walker, go to the farthest left building at the back of the area. Enemies will not engage you, but you can snipe them easily. Works best if you have Icebreaker for the ammo regen, otherwise do some damage to the Walker and then prepare to take out some adds and move up to grab ammo, then retreat again. Probably want to have plenty of ammo synthesis packs as well. For Sepiks, kill the mob at the beginning then hide in the room to the left of the entrance with the stairs leading under the platform. You can take potshots from here without having to worry about enemies rushing you. Occasionally a group of 3 or 4 will congregate at the bottom of the stairs. Use them for safe ammo resupply if you can, otherwise you'll have to make a few mad dashes out of your safe spot.

You are correct.
The Strikes on the right side of the menu, the one's called Eagle-18, Viper-20, Tiger-22 and Wolf-24....the game groups you up with other random people to always give a full three person strike team. Which is nice, as you can then work these to get the rewards. When you are at the right level to match their level, they are easy and fast to do. 15 minute tops to get the Marks & rewards.
The Strikes on the left side of the menu screen, the Daily, Weekly, and Nightfall, they do give much bigger rewards. But as you are figuring out, the catch is you are sh1t out of luck with the game grouping you up. You have to have two other friends arranged going in, before taking these on. Or....you simply go solo. Which of course is problematic, because if you die, you have to start all over again. That sucks. The solution here? Find friends. If you don't have any, or aren't near you in level....you can go solo. But I would advise three things: One, go slow. Two, have a Warlock Sunsinger class with self revive. That makes a world of difference. You can avoid having to restart harder boss stages. Three, try to get the exotic sniper rifle that self regenerates ammo, like the Exotic IceBreaker sniper. You can then sit back and cheese spots/bosses all day long. You group those three things together and you can then solo the Daily Strike pretty easily. And the Weekly can usually be done on the middle level (lv26) That one takes time, but it's doable by an average player like me. The nightfall? I think the studs can do it solo, but they know the cheese spots well. I'm not on that level of knowledge yet.
Edit...heb beat me to it. Agree with him too. Good post.

Great tips and lucky me my lvl 25 sunsinger did unlock self revive two nights ago.
Rifle will be an issue, is there a predictable way of ammo drops? It seems totally random to me.
Friends may be another issue which can be overcome, I'm just baffled why they put that "wall" in place for no particular reason. I don't mind socializing but I also don't want to bother anyone to wait because my wife is craving for attention ;-)

The end game is not designed to be solo or random friendly as it generally requires more teamwork. Hopefully opt in lobby chat and matchmaking will be added, however. Bungie has noticed pickup groups forming and even completing VoG, so it's possible these will be added. In the meantime pester away, that's what friends are for in Destiny. ;3

Work around to this, is to go stock up on ammo packs at the Tower. This will somewhat help, as you can get a new set of sniper bullets or launcher missiles. The problem here is this. There is a cool down limit to their use of 4-5 minutes. If sh1t gets heavy while soloing, you miss shots, etc...most people can't make it the five minutes of cooldown. This is where solo cheese spots come in. If you find them, you can just go sit there, ...go grab a beer, do something else and come back to the game later. Load up ammo and then repeat.

Not sure if this is supported in daily/weekly missions though, haven't had a chance to test it myself (especially now I have the Ice Breaker ).

The cooldown is 5 minutes and applies across all synthesis ammo packs. This is why I purchased three (yes, three) Ice Breakers, although I was under the impression that full ammo regen with the Ice Vreaker would grant full ammo with any special weapon I replace it with. However, it only replenishes the magazine, and not the reserves. I was hopeful that shotgunning forever when waiting for public events to spawn would be more fun. However, it still speeds up completion time for events for me so it's still good.
You can get armour that boosts ammo reserves. This is what I use when building my characters. My Titan gets boosts for full auto rifles, for example.

You don't have to waste your heavy ammo to get the free ammo gift. Just use up all or nearly all primary or secondary, then wait about 30 seconds.

That sounds interesting, have to check that as so far I wasn't aware that really happened. If anyone is interested... a devil walker has around 105k life on lvl 22 (one person) and when I died at the final location I respawned in the little building to the left when you enter that same area.

2 1/2 hours in Crucible this afternoon, and not a single win. Most of the time my team lost quite badly. I spent most of that time under a 1 KD (I went positive maybe twice). I switched lobbies and game modes, to no avail. It was frustrating and not fun in the slightest. I did the math earlier, and I figured out I can lose 7 matches a day and still cap out on marks every week. I think I can suck that up until I get another weapon or two I want from the vendors. After that I'm not sure I'll PvP again in this game. I understand this is a different game with different mechanics, but to go from a 1.91 K/D with a 5 W/L in Ghosts to losing 90% of my games and struggling to stay above a 1 K/D most days is just too much for me. Again, Destiny throws me a curveball. Over the past 2 days I've played 16 matches with around a 1.5 KD. In 4 of those matches I had a KD higher than 2, and I went negative only 4 times. I also won 75% of those matches. I'm sure tomorrow I'll be back to losing all 7 matches I play and going negative each time. The PvP really baffles me.

That happens too often, considering that now most are forced to buy the plus version to access game features (which is just stupid).

I played a new game mode in Destiny last night. Skirmish, due to a bounty...I got the SAME map, Rusted Land five games in a row. Some of the worst FPS gaming I have ever done. I felt like I was needing seven seconds to put someone down, and on top of that, watched someone snipe me with a golden gun from like 80 meters away. I kid you not. Just utterly garbage gaming. With the bounty done, I go back to Control, play on Firebase Delphi.....and get a 24 kill game with over 5,000 pts. The next two Control games? Same map again. WTF. So I had some of worst Crucible gaming ever in that Skirmish stuff. Then came back with some huge numbers playing Control. Complete Jeckel/Hyde thing. Annoying.
