Good to know, thanks. One thing I realized this week is that I should never get too attached to a single objective (say reaching level 29), because otherwise the game quickly becomes too grindy and unfun. So I have decided to just let things happen naturally, as long as I am having fun. I see a lot of frustrations on the forum lately, my guess is that they all sorta due to this. I agree. Just enjoy doing all of the daily/weekly stuff, when you get there, you get there.

One thing that does not happen naturally, however, is the planet material farming.
I am looking at a task of 160+ Irons to just get my 2 raid gears to upgrade. That's a lot of running in circles not having fun.

I tend to focus on smaller goals that lead into bigger goals. So lately I've mostly been doing the "grab all bounties I can, go on patrol, chase events, do as many patrols as possible, and grab all the chests & resources I see" thing and that usually gives me a pretty decent goal. I'll start with just the goal of getting my first event finishing gold while doing the other stuff too, then try to focus on completing as many of my bounties as are doable on that planet while chasing the events and all. Once my bounties are all done I usually finish whatever events or patrols I have at the time and head back to the tower. By then I'm usually done for the night. Of course that was also in service of raising my vanguard rank which is now rank 2 and I've gotten most of the legendary armor pieces I need from the vanguard. I still need rank 3 so I'm sure I'll do that much more, but I have other goals now too like finishing my exotic bounty and getting more coins for Xur.
I like having goals, but it's definitely more fun if you focus on the ones you can accomplish in a couple hours rather than the bigger ones that seem like a huge grind. It's kept the game feeling pretty fresh so far. In fact that's the main reason I haven't bothered to finish the story yet. I just always have something else I'd like to do and usually when I try to JUST go get my first gold event for the day that tends to lead into spending an hour or more doing events, patrols, bounties, ect... (I always fill up my bounties before I log out so I can jump strait into it when I log in.)

I'd recommend you chase/grind the events, bounties, and patrols while farming. It might slow you down on gathering a bit, but it's much more fun and nets you a variety of rewards rather than just one type of reward.

It does make material farming more fun, but in general I am not a big fan of patrol missions, mainly due to the fact that killing enemies is not at all satisfactory. Public events are more fun, but not great either. I would much rather just have a Halo "Firefight" experience, during which waves upon waves increasingly stronger enemies just keep coming at me. Defend the Warsat public event is kinda like that, but not enough. IMHO, for Destiny v2 they need to seriously revamp this area to make it much more fun.

Yeah some kind of horde mode would fit the game very well.

Good info. This will help me de-prioritize the need of reaching level 29, until I am truly ready. Translation: If Xur sells crappy exotic Warlock armor again, I am not going to bite the bullet and buy it Did you see the video of the guy (forgot his name) changing the date on his playstation to check out the different items Xur is selling? There was quite some repetition on the warlock end... (anyway my warlock is looking forward to the weekend)

Regarding the Atheon patch.
I've done it on Hard and Normal now. Hard was annoyingly hard, so i'll leave that go for now. But last night's normal run...my group had some issues. Everything got along great, worked well, but it took us forever to get Atheon done. And this was after breezing easily through the earlier stuff. Where the problems seemed to lie is 1) we have a few guys 27 or lower, 2) the people who DON'T get transported back, those in charge of defending the portals and taking out supplicants. People were getting worked here a bit, due to confusion of getting to spots.

It seemed they tried to push the Templar off the ledge (which didn't seem to work) but the Atheon fight itself went after some initial problems without an issue.
