Bros: I'll need your guidance on what to buy What I have: 24 Mote of Light and 18 Strange Coins, enough to buy 1 armor or weapon, and 1 engram. My current thinking: 1) Although "Truth" looks interesting, it seems like a big waste to spend coins on an exotic heavy since I can only have 1 exotic weapon equipped at a time. I would rather make room for Primary and Special (already got Ice Breaker), so owning an exotic heavy does not seem to have a high priority. 2) Regarding the 3 armor pieces: a) since I am working on all 3 of my classes at the same time, I can choose any one of them; b) I already have a legendary chest armor for Titan, and this Titan armor's ability does not look very appealing (extra grenade does look nice though), so maybe not? c) Hunter helmet looks pretty strong, with that extra shot of Golden Gun; d) Warlock helmet looks pretty good too, but maybe not as good as the Hunter one? I am also wondering in general whether I should favor Helmet over Chest piece. The thinking here is Legendary Helmet cost a hell lot more (120 Marks) than other pieces (65 Marks). If I buy an exotic helmet, I'll have more Marks to spend on Legendary armor purchase. Since these legendary armors will become obsolete later (to be replaced by the Raid gear), it seems to me that I should spend as few Marks on them as possible. In other words: my thinking here is that my armor composition should always include an exotic helmet. 3) Regarding the exotic body Engram: a) What are the possible outcomes of this? Only chest piece? b) Does Xur offer different kinds of Exotic Engram every week? Could he be offering an exotic Helmet / weapon next week? c) I already have a legendary Titan chest and a legendary Hunter chest. In this case, does it make sense for me to buy this? My thinking is no. Especially if I decide to go with exotic helmet for armor composition. Please share your thoughts on these. Thanks in advance

1. Don't buy Truth unless you're trying to collect all the exotics sooner or later for the Grimoire. The tracking rockets are awesome, but I've had it a couple weeks now and barely use it. As you say, a heavy exotic is much less useful than a primary or special, especially if that special is Ice Breaker.
2b. The Armamentarium is great. I'll be buying that one for my Titan for sure. Extra grenade, special, and heavy ammo is awesome. Maybe not as good a choice if you have Icebreaker and a legendary Titan chest already.
2c. Achlyophage Symbiote is best (Hunter exotic) pony. Buy it. Extremely useful for Oracle sections in the raid. 4 shots = 4 dead Oracles without wasting any time. I think clearly your best option this week.
2d. Light Beyond Nemesis is ok, but I think easily the worst of the 3 options. Unfortunately it's not that useful until you or a teammate get downed, which you should be hoping to avoid at all times anyway. That, and how often have you seen someone get downed while trying to revive you? Maybe once or twice? Defender bubbles and invisible Bladedancers don't care about shortened revive times regardless.
It seems like the Hunter and Titan exotic helmets are really good compared to the other options, so I would prioritize them for sure. Warlock I think has more balanced choices for all armor slots, so that's more up to your personal preference.
3. It will only decode into a chest piece. They do change weekly, but it could also be another chest next week also, it's all random. I think it was a helmet the previous two weeks. I'd agree that it probably doesn't make sense for you to buy it, just save the Motes and see what's there next time.

An alternate take: planetdestiny.com/worth-buying/One other thing to note is that during the raid there's a 30 second revive cooldown. Faster revive times are basically meaningless there, further weakening the case for Light Beyond Nemesis. Also as noted in the link, you'll have to have an exotic helmet to hit level 30 if you don't run the Vault of Glass on hard, as the raid helmet is only available on hard mode. That may or may not increase the importance of the exotic helmet depending on your future raiding plans.

Thank you! These are very helpful.
"Achlyophage Symbiote" acquired. Icing on the case is that It also has badass cool looks, in addition to its usefulness.
With 1 exotic helmet and 1 legendary chest, VoG is now within reach. I just need to reach Vanguard Rank 2, shell 130 Marks to get legendary gauntlet & boots, then fully upgrade exotic. That will get my total light to 30 + 18 * 3 = 84, reaching lvl26 (76 light) looking at 27 (87 light).
I will upgrade my legendary gears but spend as few Ascendant Shards as possible (at most enough to get the 3 extra light needed for lvl27), since once I can start doing VoG I will slowly replace them with Raid Gear.

Better yet, you can upgrade each of the legendary pieces to 22 light before needing to use any shards, which will put you at level 27. From there you can either burn a couple shards to hit 28, or just save them up for whenever you get some raid gear.

Hmm, not sure what to do in this situation. I have full raid gear, aside from the helmet. I thought about buying an exotic helmet for my Titan, but none of them seem that great. I would love to buy the chest, as it seems really useful, but that means I would have to get the raid helmet to max out my level. Any thoughts? I'm close on pulling the trigger...

Would it be worth it to blow 13 coins on some armor....and then turn around and dismantle, to get three Ascendent Shards?

Unless you are blessed with coins, I would recommend against that 3 shards = 3 day's work of public event gold finish (1 day if you have all 3 characters), burn 13 coins on that seems to be too much of a waste. If I were you, I would rather buy the armor for a different class. As we already discussed, the Hunter one has great features and killer (literally speaking) looks, so is the Titan chest piece. I know that you are solely focused on Warlock right now, but these two look too good to pass up. Of course, if you are 100% sure that you have no interest to rank up the other classes/characters, then by all means go ahead.

It's a tough decision for sure. 13 coins is a serious investment If you did buy it though, I don't think that you will regret it. Reaching level 30 is just one goal, another goal is to have variety in your armor wardrobe so you can do different builds. Even if you get another exotic helmet later (more grenades and more heavy ammo, that's huge), having this useful chest piece can give you more options for loadouts. I am seriously pondering the possibility of acquiring 8 more coins over the weekend so I can buy this as well (I will have to rely on friends carrying me through weekly to achieve that). That's how enticing it looks...

The titan exotic is my preferred exotic... and titans are my main. 2 grenades is fantastic. I'm actually a bit pissed because having 2 titan grenades in PvP is a bit too good imo. I SHOULD METNION THIS ITEM IS CURRENTLY GLITCHED THOUGH (and I still use it). Bungle doesn't understand how stacking works. I have raid boots that give me more heavy ammo. I have the armamentarium that gives me more heavy ammo. The effects don't stack. I should be carrying 9 heavy ammo with an unfriendly giant. I carry only 7. I should be carrying 12 heavy ammo with the hezen launcher. I carry only 9. Still a fantastic exotic.
The truth is good for VoG. Not quite as good as the Ghallarhorn, but it will slay some minotaurs for you. Hunter helmet is a must buy if you main hunter and don't already have it. 4 golden guns is fantastic utility for both PvP and end game content.
The only bad thing is the warlock helm. Tough week guys!

Witty: Since there's nothing else worth spending Motes of Light on, buy the Exotic Engram first. That may change what you want to spend your coins on.

I bought the engram and the Cryptarch smiled upon me, giving me the Voidfang Vestments for my level 24 Warlock. I had vaulted a legendary helmet a couple weeks back, and I hit 130 vanguard marks last night giving me enough to buy gloves and boots, so level 27 endgame-ready Warlock, here we come!
Also picked up the Armamentarium for my 18 Titan. Hope to have him endgame-ready soon as well.

Witty: Since there's nothing else worth spending Motes of Light on, buy the Exotic Engram first. That may change what you want to spend your coins on. I am still pondering about that. Currently I have 24, if I burn 23 this week, most likely I wont have enough for next week. I am trying to see whether a random exotic chest is worth the investment, given that I am already blessed with legendary chest for Hunter and Titan from rare engrams. Also, I was told that non-helmet Raid gears can be obtained by beating VoG on normal, while the helmet can only be obtained by beating hard. So IMHO I should prioritize my exotic purchase on helmet first, until I play the game enough to become a "hundred-aire" on coins and MoL I could be kicking myself if next week the exotic engram is of primary weapon category, and I don't have enough MoL for it What do you guys think?

If in doubt just save them for next time, even more so if you want to prioritize exotic helmets over the other pieces. You won't be missing out on much since you have legendary chest pieces already anyway.

It's more important IMO to make sure you're gear has the appropriate additions.

I'd love that hunter helm but I'm away all next week and back Friday. I won't have enough coins for next weekend if I use any now. I'm also going to hold out for an exotic primary @witty.

I can now carry more ammo.

I decided to buy the chest engram anyway, and sure enough it decrypted into a Hunter one, the least I need since I already have an exotic helm and a legendary chest.
Won't regret the purchase though, the wolf head chest piece sure looks cool. The abilities are not great but decent: faster revive goes well with my stealthy Bladedancer. So I can use the helmet for gunslinger, and this for bladedancer.
Move on to get more coins so I can buy the Titan chest, and start grinding way up to 23 MoL again…

Crest is a solid PvP choice for certain game modes. It's almost cheating in salvage/skirmish.
Armamentarium is just fantastic all around.

We Sunday warriors will just have to grind ahead of time to save up enough coins I guess. Got 19 now, plan to grind all 3 of my characters through weekly, to produce at least 18 more coins, maybe 21 (9 + 6 + 6). Rare engrams can yield coins occasionally, so I am going for 40+ coins when the guy shows up again, enough for 3 armor pieces or 1 armor + 1 weapon.

That's if he even has something worth buying next week. It's been really hit or miss. I'm aware its a random item generator. I wish I could get more motes of light, I love the Engram gamble.
