Destiny: PvE checklist

(Warning: the purpose of this thread is a bit silly. Feel free to ignore )

This past weekend I came to realization that I have been planning and playing Destiny like it is a serious work project. I'll spare you the details, but something is seriously wrong if I start using a spreadsheet . Anyway, there is a list of things I want to complete for each character, thought it might be fun to share and discuss:

Witty's Destiny PvE checklist (roughly in order of expected completion time):

1) collect all gold chests (I assume that dead ghosts are not class specific)
2) complete campaign
3) reach Vanguard Rank 3
4) subclass 1 mastery
5) complete Nightfall
6) complete Nightfall solo
7) complete VoG on normal
8) subclass 2 mastery
9) complete VoG on hard
10) reach level 30
11) collect all exotic armors

Correct, unlike chests any ghosts collected on one character counts for all.

Is there a reason you're not grabbing the gold chests while you're going through the campaign? Some of them are only available during certain missions or strikes, and aren't accessible during patrols, which means you may have to do more replaying to go back and get them.  Same thing with a lot of the dead ghosts.

Well, I was too lazy to look up the chests while playing the story missions. Now I have no idea which ones I have got and which ones I haven't, so I have to do a dedicated scavenger hunt at some point...

But that's a very good point. I'll update OP to move it up before completing campaigns.

I think if I play long enough I'll additionally want to reach rank 3 in all 4 factions, (lord dat Crucible grind may kill me so that'll be last!). And mebbe take a stab at all the exotic weapons in addition to the armors.

I also want to acquire the rarist/coolist ship and speeder I can, but have no specific goal for them. Somewhat less so shader and icon, but kinda same deal, though I don't know how much I'll lean on aesthetics vs rarity on those either.

Finding all the ghosts will also be a goal, but I'll save that for late much like you were saving chests. In fact I've been deliberately not looking up chests or ghosts as I enjoy finding them on my own and don't want to rob myself of that until I've given up trying to find them while I just explore and go about my business on my own.

From there who knows. The first expansion will be out well before I'm even close to completing this stuff.

I doubt I'd bother, though because one would probably have to delete and restart a character many times to get all the low level weapons. And it would make an utter mess out of your vault. But still. That would be kinda cool.

Faction Rank 3 / weapon / ship / sparrow are on my to do list as well. First is more of a PvP thing (after reaching Rank 3 you'll have to use Crucible Marks to buy stuff), and the other two are not character related, so I did not add them.

I already reached Vanguard 3 on all my characters, so I have enlisted the 3 brothers into various factions. Hunter fits FWC because he enjoys killing stuff (favorite activity = VIP assassination, either rush in & out with Golden Gun in hand, or sneak invisibly and blade), Warlock in Dead Orbit for exploration, and Titan for New Monarchy because he is a family man

I am not a big completionist, so I will only acquire weapons that are worth having Maybe collecting all exotics, but only the good legendaries.

There is also another PvP goal: reach Crucible Rank 3. With things like Iron Banner starting to offer Crucible specific gears, I foresee more goals to achieve there. That's one reason why I am thinking about this checklist, because I want to get the PvE part done so I can move on to PvP

It dawned on me this morning that I can eventually acquire all of the faction weapons just playing PvE, simply by continuing to use the faction class item to increase the faction rank and get the random drops for reaching a new level. I don't need the random drops from Vanguard, since I can just spend my Vanguard marks on them. I plan on having each of my characters continue to level a different faction.

You can leave stuff at the Postmaster. He's holding a few legendary guns and a ton of rare engrams for me.

My last weekend's reflection made me clear about one thing: Destiny's investment system did get me hooked pretty good .

first a few story missions
-> fun to play, want to reach higher levels
-> reach level 20, need light
-> need armor for light, get vanguard marks / reps for legendary purchase & coins / MoL for exotic
-> got armor, need AS to upgrade
-> got to level 27/28, need Raid
-> Got weapon drops from Raid (as well as other means), need to upgrade weapons

The last step is a loop and can practically go on forever. While the content to use the weapons against are limited, you can always find new ways to play against them after getting a new weapon, and they can just keep adding new weapons. Of course, at some point it will become pretty boring, but that won't happen until after you get through several exotic/legendary weapons.

I was planning to get into Crucible but so far I simply don't have the time. There are always this next thing to do get things moving, especially with 3 characters going at the same time.

That's an excellent realization . OK, now faction rank 3 is offically on my PvE checklist.

You can rank up your Crucible rank by equipping a non-faction class item and trade in planet/moon materials to the Crucible Quartermaster where you trade 50 materials for 5 Marks, just like the Vanguard Quartermaster. Once you get all characters up to Vanguard Rank 3 it is pretty good to work on other factions because you are not guaranteed armour or weapons after a certain level. I recently got a Mote of Light and a Strange Coin for reaching Vanguard Rank 9 for my Hunter when I was hoping for a legendary weapon so I can dismantle it for Ascendant Energy.

You can also trade in planet/moon materials to get Crucible Marks to buy your gear. I did this for the Warlock's Astrolord Robe as I had Radiant Light so I thought I'd take advantage of the faster leveling while I had it.

Getting closer to exhaust PvE, as my characters are approaching level 29 and faction rank 3 (each has a different faction). After I get there, besides doing weekly PvE maintenance of weekly/Nightfall/VoG looks like it is about time to start playing Crucible and get all three characters to Crucible Rank 3 as well.

Everything is pushing me towards that direction: exotic bounties as well as upcoming Iron Banner "v2". This will also give me a chance to take off the faction specific class items and begin wearing the non-faction legendary class items I keep getting from Raid drops
