Destiny 12/9 DLC - Eric Morns & New leveling process

I thought I would create one thread where the new DLC could be discussed. Please add to it.

INTRO



Eris Morn (Vendor)

There appears to be three things to do here.

1. Complete her story. Unlocks the Weeklies. This involves doing a series of bounties, missions and quests.
2. Level up. Much like the Iron Banner, start at level 0 and level up to Level 4 as you complete shit.
3. Purchase stuff. Much like other vendora, as you level up with Eris Morn, you can buy additional things on the road to Lv 4

- Bonds, Marks & Cloaks for the three characters
- Emblems
- Shaders
............(not sure if these things grant you % bonuses to level up faster? Each level you reach has new things)

- Runed Core
- Embalming Orb
- Special ammo pack
- Heavy ammo packs
- Radiant Shards
- Radiant Energy


1. Story Mission - REQUIRED

Step 1 - Go to Tower and seek out Eris Mons. She (or he?) will give you a series of Bounties, Quests and Missions that you have to cash in to progress within her section of the DLC. After you complete each one below, go back to her for the next one.


Step 2 - Mission "Fist of Crota" (Lv 25? & Lv 30) - Earth. New stuff in the Groto section......access to bounties after that.
Step 3 - Mission "Siege of the Warmind" (Lv 25? & Lv 30) - Earth. New area of the map, opened up beneath the Forgotten Shore
Step 4 - Mission "The Wakening" (Lv 25? & Lv 30) - Moon. New area! Completing this gets you the "Murmur" 330 Fusion Rifle.

Step 5 - Quest 1 "The Extermination" - "Defeat 25 Hive Knights or Wizards (Tip-go rinse & repeat in the 'Seige of Warmind' Mission)

Step 6 - Quest 2 "Fist of Crota"....Kill quest, hidden in a corner in the Lunar Complex
Step 7 - Quest 3 "Hand of Crota"....Kill quest, in the Terrestial Complex
Step 8 - Quest 4 "Heart of Crota"...Kill quest, up in the Refinery in the Cosmodrone

Completing the above steps, going back to Eris, this then opens up the Weekly and Nightfall strikes. I think this gets you to the point of being finished, and seeing this next Mission come up. You are officially done...I think.

Step 9 - Strike "The Will of Crota" (Lv 25 & Lv 30) New Strike mission as well as the Weekly Heroic. New area in the Jovian Complex

This gives you a bunch of new bounties: (edit...these bounties actually get unlocked after step 1 or 2)

II. Bounties - Optional

Step 0 - Bounty "Blades of Crota" - Kill 3 Knights who serve as Blades of Crota on Earth and the Moon.
Step 0 - Bounty "Deadshot Collector" - Kill 50 Hive with headshots, while using the Black Wax Idol
Step 0 - Bounty "Chase the Dark" - Kill 25 Hive with the Axion Bolt
Step 0 - Bounty "The Cleansing" - Kill 10 Major or Ultras in a Nightfall activity
Step 0 -
etc.........

III. - Quest Mission - OPTIONAL "Urn of Sacrific"


Step 1 - Buy an Urn from Xur (1 coin) and give it to Eris
Step 2 - Eris quest - Go kill 25 thrall with solar damage fusion rifle. Dark Within Story mission on moon
Step 3 - Eris quest - Melee kill 5 cursed thrall without dying. Wakening story mission on moon. Lv 26
Step 4 - Eris quest - Get 100 hearts, kill acolytes and wizards. Shrine of Oryx story mission
Step 5 - Eris quest - Go kill Urzok the Hated. Skywatch on public events. tough.
Step 6 - Eris quest - New mission is opened up on the Moon. Special mission, 'Ritual of Sacrifice'. Very tough. Easier on Lv 26 than Lv 30. Five waves.
Step 7 - Return the eyes to Xur, he gives you stuff, and then take back to Eris. You are finished and get your prize.

She is near the greeny ship tied to The Tower. Didn't know aircraft were tied down though. I thought that was boats.

Stupid Question.... you have to do the 8 steps before you get the new bounties?

You get the bounties right away that you can complete while you are going through the quest line.

I got 3 last night... kill 15 hive on earth with a sword, and another one where I'd have to rapidly melee death

Those are the ones that are just for rep and stuff. Once you finish the first three missions you get three special bounties to go do on Patrol.

You start getting the bounties around step 2 or 3.

Urns of Sacrifice quest line (don't watch if you don't want any spoilers, although personally i don't think there is much to spoil here):



Without spoilers, I am going to say that this quest line is mildly useful for the road to level 31, and you need Xur's presence to finish the whole thing.

I'll have to keep that in mind with my Warlock and Titan -- should save me some time with them. Hunter is already well on his way to 31 so that quest is kind of pointless for him now, but oh well.

hmm... I don't want full spoilers but this is very interesting news so I've got a couple questions to try to avoid wasting my time and resources.


Do I just need to buy the Urn from him or do I need him at the last step as well? (Must I complete it before Sunday morning even if I purchase the URN or be forced to wait until next weekend?)

And does whatever it does to help towards level 31 apply to a specific slot? (Should I hold off purchasing vanguard armor until after or for a specific slot or something?)

I think that's all. I'll have to get on top of this...

I think that's all. I'll have to get on top of this...

You have to do some stuff and return the urn to him later I believe in exchange for something else which you then take to Eris to get the final reward. So it's either complete it before Sunday or have to wait until Xur comes back next week. Yes, the reward applies to a specific slot and you may want to hold off on the armor purchase, specifically (SPOILER):  gloves.

Speaking of which... What are the opinions on new Vanguard weapons? I'm assuming I should probably get an auto rifle, but who knows. Preferably something that would be a decent primary for raids at some point, assuming I don't get any exotic primaries for a while. (Also I have a fully leveled TDYK already, though it's only 300atk.)

I am wondering about that, but with so much stuff to do and a decent arsenal of raid legendary weapons, I am not planning to buy one any time soon.

One tool you can use to evaluate the weapons: www.destinydb.com/, by doing the following:

1) Find the ones offered by the vendors;
2) Look up their stats on DestinyDB;
3) Cross check with the weapons you are using and feel good about;

If the weapon has same or better stats, then it is most likely a solid buy, bonus points go to the new weapons that can give you the elemental damage you currently don't have for that weapon category.

Since you have very limited play time and won't be able to get into Raid much yet, getting these weapons could be a great way to gain power for Weekly and Nightfall, the most challenging activities you currently face. You don't need to buy too many, and you can prioritize by the following rules of thumb:

1) Primary & Special > Heavy
2) Murmur gives you 2 Fusion Rifles in 1 package, so you can ignore FR for now, at least non-void ones. This also means in general probably Primary > Special (since you have a solid special with 330 attacks)
3) If you have a good exotic with 330+ attacks (say from this week's Xur exchange) in primary, then Special > Primary for the purchase;
4) If you have a good exotic with 330+ attacks (say from this week's Xur exchange) in special, then Primary > Special for the purchase;

All in all: by simply buying 1 new weapon to complement Murmur (and new exotic if you have one) can help you significantly for next week's fight.

Looked at the Vanguard weapons and they appear to be outclassed by the original stock for the most part. I got the LDR sniper rifle from ranking up Vanguard, which is also sold by the Quartermaster. So I will try and cross compare it to my Epitaph some time. I'm actually expecting my Epitaph to win on raw damage.

How can anyone have the Murmur at 330 yet? Looking at it, you need a rune material first. And those aren't available to Eris level 3. Is anyone even level 2 yet?

Vanguard weapons look pretty blah. The New Monarchy have an interesting looking AR so I'm running that faction for now but it'll take a while.
