I have never had an opportunity to get a Gjallarhorn, so pretty much (in regards to Rocket Launchers), it seems like i am always trying to find the next best thing. This week's Xur didn't make it any better. Our offering the Gjallorhorn for upgrade, and a Warlock Exotic chest piece (i don't have) for upgrade too.....thanks, but have never seen either. F off Xur. Moving on, I thought this video did a nice job comparing exotic 'Truth' to the Gjallahorn. Never quite understood what makes the Gjallarhorn special, as it's stats, on the surface, aren't that much better than many high impact RL's. But from watching this video, it would appear the Gjallarhorn's special trick is just one perk.....the added perk towards the end, the 'Wolfpack Rockets'. After your initial hit, these sub/mini extra rockets deliver a ton of extra damage. In this video...
....the author does a nice job comparing things. He's running the Moon mission 'Shrine of Oryx', on it's highest level (at the time Lv 28), and doing a test. Testing The Truth vs the Gjallarhorn (both at Level 300) in taking down the final boss. Interesting comparison, in that the Truth needs SEVEN rockets to get the job done, the Gjallarhorn only needed THREE. That's a ridiculous high difference between the true. The Truth does have a 'auto-lock' seek feature, plus early detonation feature, but so what. An extra four rockets needed is a bit to much.
Which leads me to this thread, and a question. I have a Rocket Launcher called the 'Admonisher III'. It's a 331 Legendary launcher. It has a similar feature (at least i think it does) to the Wolf Pack rounds. The Admonisher III has what's called 'Cluster Bombs' that go off after the primary rocket hit. So i tested this out in the Shrine of Oryx mission, trying to follow what the above video maker did. To compare. Or at least try to, because Destiny only offerers a Level 30 version at the top end now. The boss will be a bit tougher to beat.
So 331 Admonisher III versus final Boss at Level 30. How many rockets? My test examples showed either three or four rockets to get the job done. I tested a few times and wasn't entirely sure. Definitely four would be the max end. But the boss came down in three on two tests. Anyone else use this Launcher? It seems like a nice poor man's substitute, if you have been unlucky so far. I think the Cluster Bomb feature does a nice job in simulating what the Wolfpack Rounds with the Gjallahorn. I think this is just as powerful as the Gjallarhorn. At least it appears to be (but no tracking feature)
So what's the best?
XFurb Gjallarhorn 331? .....Tracking. Yes. Wolfpack Rounds. Yes
Hunger of Crota 331..........Tracking. Yes. Cluster Bombs. Yes.
Dragon's Breath 331.........Tracking. ? Three missiles in tube. Yes. Leaves a solar flare upon impact.
Admonisher III 331............Tracking. No. Cluster Bombs. Yes.
Can anyone add to this?
