"We want fewer barriers to equipping upgrades. The shard economies erect these barriers between players and the new piece of gear they just got"
So why did they invent Radiant Shards and made Ascendant Shards of minimal value? They could even be more generous with the drops for Radiant Shards and when you dismantle unwanted Raid armour.

A kind of baffling article. Why are the people at Bungie surprised by the "Barriers between players"....when Bungie themselves put in the barriers?
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to plan out exactly how much a time a person will have to play to get what they need.

For all the problems borderlands had with enemies level vs. player level....their actual leveling system was fantastic.
The player levels up separately from the character. Leveling itself was time consuming and required a good amount of playtime or powerleveling through various means. Weapons, grenades, and shields drop according to (at) your level. Most (almost all) gear has a chance to drop from any enemy. Legendary (read exotic) gear has an increased chance to drop from specific enemies.
So the cool thing about this is....if you want to build your character a certain way you can put in the effort and get the specific gear you want. If you are a low level and your high level buddies want to play with you...they can get you to a high level pretty fast. There is always a chance that you can get something really amazing and lucky from even silly enemies. You can put in as little or as much time in as your want.
Now....this isn't conducive to Bungie's design philosophy of KEEPING people playing....constantly trying to overcome barriers. Freedom....is a bad thing if you want keep people constantly overcoming these barriers. Having your drop events (raids nightfalls) happen every week and at random intervals with no way to increase your odds (except rerolling and thus more time) discourage developing specific builds. IMO this is because Bungie fears people will drop their game if they get their ideal build. However, Borderlands had countless possible builds because of the item variety.
So that was a bit of a rant....my point is. Mix Borderlands leveling with Destiny's endgame Raiding content and you might have the rare... perfect sort of game.

So if my earphones and mic went out at the same time you could say I was, *sunglasses* deaf and Dumian...
Why not throw Scorpion Mode on top of that and go for the ultimate raid challenge! ;3

I loved borderlands with a passion that I don't think I've equalled yet. But. Did you try and farm an infinity?? Jesus H. That was a royal pain. I did get one. Legally. Then was duped a full set. I'm seriously fired up to hear about the Handsome Pack and the news that BL3 is due. Now I'm a pppeeeessssfawwrer I'll miss out on the save transfer but I'm still happy to replay it. It's the game that really drove home how much fun coop mob bashing is.

I really enjoy BL, but never got quite as into it as many people seem to. Mainly because I just play through the story with my GF and when she's done, I'm done. We play it for the coop, because it is one of the best coop games. But it certainly has flaws too, so as a shooter in general I'm a little meh on it sometimes. Things like shotguns and weapons with explosive projectiles mostly seem to suck. I had a couple good shotguns in the first one, hardly any in the second. So far in BL2 AR's seem pretty lame. It just seems like RNG always manages to give you one cripplingly bad stat or something. Part of that is I really just want a good solid weapon most of the time rather than everything having some special gimmick like exploding when you reload it or increasing accuracy as you shoot it... Unless it's a gatling gun that shoots for a long time I hate that... Burst fire when zoomed usually sucks... My GF can't stand scopes on shotguns. heh They don't bother me because I hipfire those bitches, but it's just one of those things. Pray to RNG every time you open a box, but after a while even the really good loot boxes are pretty boring because 99% of them will just be vendor trash.
Maybe at the higher levels it gets really really cool, but frankly I'll never get there. We're about halfway through the game and no we won't play game+ mode. My GF has zero interest in replaying content she's already played with few exceptions. (A year or many years later replaying a favorite game... mebbe...) We also don't play 4 player, because we want to be in control of our experience and not just speedrun every quest. *shrug*
Definitely looking forward to an actual sequel. Maybe that will motivate her for us to finish BL2. The presequel did NOT appeal to her at all.

One thing that I hope they fix, in destiny 2, is the concept of the light level. Meaning that If you are level 30.0000001 and I am level 30.999999999, we do the exact same damage, and take the same damage.... there has to be some sort of inbetween. If you are 1 light over a level, and I am 1 light from the next level, I should be more powerful and do/take less damage than you
Just my 2 cents

I dunno about that. The whole point of a level based system is that each level is a discrete power upgrade. Otherwise why bother with the levels at all. You could just use light itself as a stat.
Personally I'm pretty much okay with it as is. The fact that there are discrete upgrades means you can save shards and resources until you know you can get an upgrade. No point getting every single upgrade. Levels are meant to break up progression and give you discrete moments to celebrate that progression rather than having simply a smooth and featureless progression. If that were the goal then you could easily convert the game from having a level cap of 32 to 32,000 and you'd go up several levels with every kill, pretty much literally every time you earned XP. In fact, at that point why have any difference between levels and XP, you could just have strait XP and Light and you wouldn't need to convert those stats into anything else.

Melee abilities, swords/relic (against Crota, for example), and maybe grenades (can't recall for sure on that) have their damage tied to your actual light number, not your overall light level. For example, a 131 light guardian is much more effective using a sword against Crota than a 120 light guardian, even though they're both level 30.

It's the game that really drove home how much fun coop mob bashing is. The real question is why you bothered to farm for the Infinity pistol anyway? It's an average gun although Zer0 and Krieg are the only two characters that can reach the maximum fire rate with it. If you are after a Vladof pistol there's the Stalker and the Stinger. I use the Stinger myself. Farming for specific gear was too drawn out and I think they changed this in TPS. And the problem with having low drop rates on specific gear is it hinders the viability of that character. It's why I struggled with Zer0 (first character, played UVHM with level 50 gear at level 55) using sniper rifles other than Vladof and ended up believing Maya is the better sniper. It's just Maya can make Jakobs rifles work better and they are the 'true' sniper rifles although I do enjoy using the White Death/Lyuda and I have a few sets of them. Part of that is I really just want a good solid weapon most of the time rather than everything having some special gimmick like exploding when you reload it or increasing accuracy as you shoot it... The Tediore explosions are pretty useful for a chucking Axton or Gaige players heavily specced into Ordered Chaos. I barely used Tediore SMGs outside of the Avenger though. That reverse recoil gimmick on Hyperion weapons has usually made me prefer other manufacturers' competing guns, e.g. Maliwan over Hyperion Plasma Casters. The only weapon type I heavily use of theirs are shotguns really. I use Butchers with Salvador so I basically never need to pick up ammo anyway.

Yeah I can't tell you how many weapons I've picked up and at first glance thought it would be awesome, only to see that one little thing like explosive rounds, or burst while zoomed, or whatever that just immediately turns the weapon to vendor trash no matter how good the stats looked. *Hey a decent AR... oh it's another grenade launcher...* uhg... I trash so many guns it actually is a lot less fun than the first game in that respect. I dunno... felt like there was more decent loot in the first one. In BL2 there's a lot more chaff useless guff to wade through trying to get some actual good weapons that are also fun. I think that's partly why my GF is currently bored with it and we aren't playing it. We're a bit over leveled vs the enemies we face and there's no decent loot to be found so it's just kinda dull 5 bear asses and fetch quests ooohh I leveled up, great, now it'll be even less challenging...
Oh yeah there's also my favorite thing about Borderlands... Gearbox is too lazy to make pretty much any of the iron sights actually accurate, especially on pistols which are usually way way below the actual impact point. O,o Whatever... I've got dry erase markers. Don't need them for Destiny, but BL practically requires them.
Then there's quests that send you right back to the area you just cleared because hey why not rehash the same area with the same enemies, but a slightly different goal...
Vehicles are cool, but still kinda handle for crap and get stuck on everything... plus oddly aren't as cool as BL1 IMO. One of my GF's favorite things in the first one was firing rockets into the far off distance and hearing that low rumble. BL2 they just zip off and quietly vanish. *shrug* Now in BL2 most enemies don't just burst into blood fountains, but instead turn into solid friggin rocks you can barely nudge... Is there really no in between? I'd like for it to look like I hit a guy, not just zoomed through him and he burst like a blood sausage, but do they really have to be 1000 pound roadblocks that get mildly annoyed when I hit them? But then that's BL physics for you. Everything is either 2 or 200 MPH.
Anyway, I complain, because I'm kinda bored with it... But really I do love BL. High hopes for the 3rd.
Right now though... don't really care. I need to log on my Warlock and kill Omnigul! ;3
