Yeah, that would be interesting. Implement sort of a Black Ops 2 'Pick Ten' system.
The problem with the above is this though. What I said above. Destiny's main flaw is it's lack of content, which is hidden by the RNG/Loot system to cover up the warts. You allow people to have what they want, you remove the bait that keeps people playing.

Or you know, get the Gunsmith to change the perks and element on your guns, for the cost of Strange Coins, so he is actually smithing guns for once. Same weird logic behind Xur selling sparrows when it should be the Shipwright. They want you to to prolong your game time with RNG. I'd have done the Thorn bounty by now if I could change element on secondaries since the Vanguard Quartermaster has never sold a void secondary.

tl;dr I actually agree with you, okay. I just see Destiny half full rather than half empty...
I'm not disagreeing with you, I just have a different perspective. I don't think the loot and progression are covering anything up. I think if the game weren't fun to play I would have quite playing ages ago, loot or not. There's tons of loot in Warframe and many other games that I couldn't care less about. I don't think Destiny is a hollow cow clicker where the only reason to play is to progress. I still play for fun, but the loot is both part bait and part fun, and the bait is just baiting me into enjoying a game I still like to play.
It comes down to perspective. The way you talk if you take away the loot it sounds like you'd see Destiny as a piece of garbage. I'm not saying you do, but the way you talk about it that's what it sounds like. Personally I'd see Destiny as one of those short games that's pretty cool and great in some ways. The combat mechanics are really good, the story and mission design mostly isn't... but VoG is terrific! Even without loot and progression Destiny would have been something pretty cool and I would have played it and been happy... and moved on. With the loot and progression I'm still playing. In fact I'm so busy doing other things I STILL haven't technically beat the game. heh Because beating the game and seeing the next cinema isn't what I'm playing for. I'm playing for fun.
I have a todo list because there are lots of things I want to do. I have mental todo lists when I play GTA as well. Sure sometimes I just go roam around and do whatever. I do the same in Destiny on Patrol... just not as much. Because GTA is a FAR more advanced open world than Destiny's patrol missions... FAR! But then Destiny barely pays homage to open world games with it's patrol modes. It's not much more than a distraction and a place to farm resources.
I would really like Destiny to have a vast immersive world, but "not being GTAV" I'm sure you will agree is not a flaw, it's just a difference.
As for people stopping... what, are they going to play forever? Destiny is a shooter that plays at some other genre tropes... it's still a linear, map crawling shooter. There is not infinite content. Games have ends, people stop playing them... that's natural. It doesn't mean the game sucks it just means, hey some people are done playing that game. Does GTA endlessly fascinate you such that you will never ever get tired of it? Good for you and GTA, (if it's true for you... prolly pretty close for me). If length of play doesn't make a game great then people leaving because they're done doesn't make it bad.
I don't think Destiny has to keep people playing indefinitely or it's "flawed". I think if it can improve some things to give those players more good reasons to keep playing then that's "better".

I would say it's Destiny's "problem" rather than flaw but I completely agree with this sentiment. We need more things to DO. We need activities. We need content that's more open ended and dynamic and thus isn't so easily exhausted. I don't think it's even all that hard to do, but Bungie will have to fit it into a budget and everything for Destiny has already been preplanned and prebudgeted, so there's not really a lot of big surprises at least until maybe the "comet"... we'll see...

Take GTA V. Take the island. Make it more alien like. Put Destiny on that, as it's base platform, with all the randomness and weird goings on in GTA. Then you have vehicles and airships that you actually use. Real effort going places. A real world, not a world 'on rails' like we have now, which contains no exploration and zero randomness.
There's your starting base and what makes Destiny a great game. You do that, you wouldn't even need a story mode.

Oh the other hand GTA Online is kinda.... hmm... well it's a massive fairly bland grind for levels. (Also for some reason all the online avatars looks like they have had the shit kicked out of them...) The free roam mode in online is boring compared to single player or even Red Dead Redemption. The custom missions is a really cool feature though, but having to grind hard to unlock anything fun isn't terribly fun. I dunno... When it comes to being an online game I found Destiny immediately compelling while I've barely touched GTA online and mostly prefer the single player.
In the end I think both games could learn from what the other one did right (and wrong) and make improvements.

I was referring to the single player free roam mode. For the most part, that's what most of Destiny is, with some randoms running around near you on the map.

As we have discussed, the biggest concern I have about Destiny is the quality and replayablility of the upcoming new content. IMHO Bungie need to step up significantly from stock and DLC if they want Destiny to remain relevant. The strikes are OK at first, but players are getting increasingly tired of them. You run into waves of enemies, clear them up while waiting for something to happen, clear up more enemies, more waiting, and then final boss fight. Personally I would like to see some raid elements added to the strikes, or pieces of raid playable as strikes, that encourage team play: 1) Templar junior: 1 player needs to use relic to take our the boss' shield, 1 or 2 teammates then take down his health; 2) Atheon junior: 2 players go through the portal to kill enemies, pick up sword and take our Oracle, while another player waiting outside to guard the portal. They then come out and assault the boss together; 3) Crota junior: 1-2 players to take down his shield, while the sword holder is going in for the kill; Of course, if teamwork are mandatory, solo players will be outraged if these are part of the weekly/Nightfall. So maybe this can be a new "survival" mode: with these bosses respawn over and over with increasing difficulties. The next question: why would players want to play this? 1) First of all, this is a great training ground for raids. 2) Reward: for this mode the reward can be quite simple, glimmers might be enough. It is going to be a lot more fun than exclusion zone glimmer farming. To make things more interesting: maybe Mote / Coins with a weekly cap. Just some brainstorming on having better replayable content without having to invest a lot into the game's infrastructure

I'm seriously considering making my 3rd warlock....into either a Hunter or Titan. That might give me some more things to do with this game. Right now, i'm learning towards the Hunter.

Looks like HoW may introduce a new social place: The Reef

I swear to god, if I constantly have to go through load screens for the Tower, and then for the Reef social space...

I could see the Reef being like a wild wild west where the queen needs our help to get rid of threats to her empire.. since you know, we're kinda at war with the Fallen aka, her footsoldiers

I wonder if we're going to get fallen weapons that home in on our targets?
That might be cool

That makes sense, just like the Eris Quest line.
