I just started playing this a little bit, finished the tutorial and played enough cooperative games to unlock daily quests. It's pretty fun thus far, I like its accessibility in comparison to other MOBAs. Anyone else tried it yet?

Second-hand, some friends have been singing its praises. The most dota-like thing I ever played was the original Monday Night Combat, so I don't have an perspective on them. Some of their statements:
Its greatest appeal being multiple maps and a focus on differing objectives rather than just the monotony of one map/gametype. It lacks the ton of bloat that the other dota-likes have in the form of countless items and junk and is more team-focused. One said something like "it's closer to building off of Warcraft 3 rather than building off of all of these current mobas that have a ton of bad ideas piled on to them over the years."
All of the chatter about Heroes from Touch Football LOL and DOTA2 players some time ago was pretty vitriolic (seemingly empty hatred on mechanics, a lack of the bloated content like items, and unexplained statements of "no skill" like you see LOL and DOTA throw at each other all the time anyway), but I'm seeing more folks turn away from those games and over to Heroes as they get into the beta.

There is no cringing pain quite like having a crucial role of your team filled by a guy who doesn't know what they're doing. Solo queue can turn anyone into a pillar of salt, and the inability to carry a team as much as you would in most FPSes is a bit of a turn-off. I don't really like playing MOBAs; this one didn't change my mind.

I'm getting into HotS a bit, definitely would be down to group up if anyone wants to.
Battle.net ID: Beavenge#1272
I definitely like not having to worry about "last hit" or running back to combine boots into better boots. Fairly limited MOBA experience but I feel the objective play on top of protecting the Ancients forces a bit more team fights too (i. e. fun).

I haven't tried comp yet, but I'd feel more competent with a party at least.

I'll just be the person saying I'm thoroughly jelly that I can't play as Jim Raynor in a DotA-like setting.

well my retort is that SC's story was written by a 7th grader What? The original SC's story was actually pretty good

In terms of gameplay pace, how many spells/skill does it take to kill an average hero? (or champ. whatever they call 'm) Dota is all about big spells that all can change a fight but on big cooldowns, while LoL is more about shorter cooldown skillshot kind of spells making it more brawly. Whats HotS flavour?

SC2's story does have a certain corniness about it, but I feel it's part of the appeal. That being said, SC1 was something you could actually take seriously.

I just couldn't stop laughing at the end of SC2:HotS's single-player campaign over one little thing. SPOILER WARNING Kerrigan just... flies away when all is said and done. No wings, no zerg-a-lergs lifting her away. Just... screw gravity, ya know?

Whats HotS flavour? Similar to LoL with skillshots that have shorter cd's. Mainly just the lvl 10 abilities that have the ~1 minute cd. It's a bit hard to say how many abilities to kill most heroes, but I'd guesstimate that it's ~4-5 depending on lots of things like their total health, your attacks, how much they've been auto-attacked, etc. UrbaneVirtuoso ...but Commander Raynor is in this DotA-like game...? And he's the perma-free hero. Who can also be a pain to kill. on a sidenote of misfortune, apparantly Blizz decided to take Tychus' cigar out of the game. Sad day.

Oh. My bad...
My friend was able to get 2 beta keys yesterday for himself and gf from a subredit and posting on the HotS forum. Might be worth a try if you want a key?
Hopefully it will enter open beta soon, at least
