Greetings my brethren.
So, a while back I got a gjallarhorn. It was a momentous occasion for me. Now, those of you who played with me quite a bit are familiar with my personal "revenge" against Bungie for leaving me "hornless" for a very long time. I used (and still use) a permanent heavy ammo glitch on my Titan. Who cares about the best rocket launcher in the game...if you have unlimited rockets. Now, this works easily with any non-exotic heavy weapon (looking at you MG-Harm's Way/Corrective Measure), but rockets are noticeably more efficient at dealing burst damage to fully utilize the large amount of heavy ammo packs you will be dropping.
So, if you feel like trying out the trick or getting your own personal revenge on Bungie for not dropping exotic X for you...this is the perfect way to do it. Note that I keep this character out of Crucible and I only use it with friends. IDK Bungie's stance on this trick, but it has been around for months with no sign of being patched. Use it at your own risk.
So...what will you need?
1) The Icebreaker. Equip this.
2) A trash exotic Primary that you don't mind never using ever. Put this in your vault
3) Some good legendary heavy weapons
4) At least 10 trash primaries of any rarity. Buy some from the vanguard armory or gunsmith.
5) Access to Bungie.net and your Destiny game at the same time.
I'll start by sharing this video. This was where I learned how to do the glitch. It took me three attempts to get the timing right (and thus three trash primaries).
I'll type the steps out here for clarity.
Step 1: Ensure your trash exotic primary is in your vault. Ensure your Icebreaker is equiped. Be at the Tower/Vestian Outpost.
Step 2: Fill your inventory with the trash primaries. Equip one. (9+1)
Step 3: Open Bungie.net
Step 4: Select a trash primary in your inventory on both Bungie.net and Destiny.
Step 5: Begin dismantling it. When the dismantle bar reaches the "x" or "square" next to "dismantle" click equip weapon on Bungie.net
If Step 5 is done successfully the item will appear to be cloned and a loading circle should appear on screen (left of your character and right of the subclass button).
Step 6: Confirm step 5 was successfully completed by closing out the menu and then opening it up again. There should be no primary equiped AND there should be 9 primaries in your inventory.
Step 7: Go to your vault. Add trash exotic primary to your inventory.
Step 8: Confirm that the exotic primary has occupied a tenth item slot.
Tadah! You did it. Now, every time an enemy is killed near you while you have no heavy ammo, that enemy will drop you heavy ammo.
You should be aware of some freedoms that you have with this glitch. You can, at any time after the glitch is set up, take your icebreaker off and switch to any secondary you want with no repercussion. If you equip another secondary...any time you would pick up PRIMARY ammo, you instead fill up your secondary's ammo. This is because your secondary now counts as your primary. For some reason, picking up secondary ammo does not refill your heavy weapon...they still count as heavy. You can also equip an exotic in your heavy slot and pick up heavy ammo packs. Just know that the production of infinite heavy ammo only works with the icebreaker and non-exotic heavy.
How can you maximize this glitch and the freedoms I mentioned to make it work for you? I have some advice for this.
#1 Generate ammo for a while and then spam rockets. By just killing a few enemies and then loading up on heavy, you are not really circumventing one of the drawbacks to this technique. One of the main drawbacks is that you cannot reliably produce heavy ammo packs while you have heavy ammo in your inventory. Killing an enemy with the icebreaker and immediately picking up the heavy ammo means that you might not have heavy while you really need it. It is far more rewarding to stockpile heavy ammo packs on the ground by waiting a good long while (PoE/Raid) and then take advantage of that stockpile when you need it most.
#2 Get good at menuing. If you have a stockpile of heavy ammo packs, the best way to take advantage of that is to translate that stockpile into heavy exotic ammo. You can quickly switch your icebreaker to a shotgun and your heavy weapon to an exotic launcher/thunderlord. Hell, if you have the gjallarhorn you can use that (weakness #2 of this technique is you don't have a gjallarhorn equiped lol). Then when you are done bursting down whatever boss was in your way you can switch back to an icebreaker setup
#3 Use surplus. Having a gun with surplus on it while a heavy ammo pack is produced (note not when you pick up the pack) will increase the ammount of heavy ammo that will drop from said pack. This is extremely beneficial for the previous trick I mentioned. Upgraded Corrective measure is great here. For a while I used a MG-harm's way. Yesterday I rolled a void Uppercut launcher with surplus and tripod. IMO this is an idea setup for this glitch. The rocket is good enough to be used as a main weapon. It holds 3 per magazine, with 8 rockets max capacity, and 4 ammo picked up per pack.
#4 Be a defender titan. Defender titan is still my favorite class. Very useful in raids, PoE zone defense, and just general orb production. However, there are some disgusting synergies with this glitch that make it exceedingly fun to play with a defender while using it.
The bubble combined with Helm of Saint 14 makes for a fantastic "pause menu" to switch back and forth between setups.Yyou can also jump out of the bubble and shoot rockets. You can use the bubble as a punching ground to get emergency ammo.
The ruin wings are also a fantastic option since they stack with the surplus perk. Having them equiped while producing ammo will significantly decrease the amount of packs needed per area. Having ruin wings equped with a surplus heavy weapon will produce 7 rockets for the uppercut I mentioned, will max out a gjallarhorn's ammo capacity, will max out the MG-harms way/corrective meassure, and will almost max out the thunderlord. Pretty amazing. A good menuer could produce ammo with ruin wings, quickly equip helm, pop a bubble, and then switch to an exotic heavy.
The defender abilities also synergize well... Iron harvest has a chance to proc every time you kill an enemy with a heavy weapon. I would say it procs roughly 50% of the time. Fire a rocket into a group of 5 thrall and your are likely to produce 3 orbs. Use iron harvest. Make your team happy. This makes your titan good at clearing AND keeping your team supered up. War machine can take care of slow reload speeds on heavies so you don't have to use reload speed perks on weapons.
#5 Don't use it in Crucible. Bungie is watching.
#6 Don't be afraid to pop heavy in situations like the Skolas fight. Some situations aren't conducive to the glitch. Sometimes there aren't enemies for you to farm off of.
