I didn't see a thread. It's soccer... as played by radio controlled cars. Pure crack. And to think it was a PS4 freebie. Though if I ever shell out the cash for a decent 144hz g-sync type monitor I'll probably double dip on the PC version since it has cross-play, giving up an advantage to my PC master race cousins is not my style. I'm pretty sure whenever I mistime my hits/jumps it's because 60hz 1080p is holding me back...

People say the COD community is bad, but everyone is an asshole in this and pretty much every other online competitive game. I don't think COD even has something that is in the same league as spamming "WHAT A SAVE" sarcastically after an opponent fucks up. That brings my testes to a boil it does, it does. But doing it right back to them brings me down to a testicular simmer.
I'm having a hell of a time with figuring out aerials. And I always forget that if you hold down jump you go a bit higher. I always have trouble with that as a mechanic in anything other than a 2d platformer though. I might have to switch my car, seems like all the really good players I run into are running super flat vehicles, or maybe I'm just crazy.

Been seeing a ton of this on Highlight Reels or any other compilation video. It actually does look appealing.

Played with some bros on PS4 one night a while back when Destiny was down. Was hella fun. I may start playing some more. Tough to master those aerial.

How much is this game? $20? Looks like fun, and The Wife is already pissed at me, so why not?

I tried 2 rounds of it. I'm not good. Help. Play at a non-idiotic hour. Heeeeey I was taking a break from work! Give me a.... break! *applause* I played a little bit more before I left for class and I got a hat trick against real people. It seems like not constantly chasing the ball is a good idea and waiting for....picks... is a fantastic idea. I moved focus on ball to left stick since it seems like something I want to do alot. Is that a bad plan?

I play 95% in ballcam. And yes, getting them picks is key. Especially on D you got to know when to move up and support the O and get that pick.

Yeah seems best to leave ballcam on nearly all the time. I wish it had a hybrid mode, though that would turn ballcam off or at least the horizontal rotation as long as the ball is actually within an imaginary box in the middle of the screen. Then you could have the best of both worlds.
Also, actually play the tutorials. Yes they start out super duper easy, but they ramp up quickly and trying to get a perfect score actually gives you tons of practice at some tough maneuvers. It's not as fun as playing, but if you are just trying to get better then it's a good investment of your time.
I'm probably about where you are. I too learned that chasing the ball 100% of the time isn't really the best thing. Although, you pretty much always want someone pressuring the ball. If nobody challenges the other team they can setup something unblockable pretty easily if they know what their doing.
All those little flips and things are pretty damn useful too, even if just using them for extra speed. I haven't found much use for the power slide, though other than doing quick 180's.
We also noticed that at the kickoff the players best lined up for a possible goal are actually the furthest from the ball. Against the AI and bad players we could get a few good starts by letting the strait on players boost into it, but against better players they could never get to the ball fast enough because they had their own players nearer to the ball take it even if they had to curve in to hit it or knock it off to the side instead of strait in. I'm sure there's a whole metagame around that, but I've not really researched it.

Finally feel like I got the hang of aerials. At least enough to be decisive in going for them, and quick to bail on them when I realize I have a bad approach. This game is really built for " Xbox, record that!" Glad I double-dipped. And the DeLorean is good fun too.

malgato everyone is playing The Division right now, which I'm still not convinced is a particularly good thing. More people should play car soccer. I mean c'mon. And you better believe I play the BTTF theme song every time I score in that thing. Hey do me a favor and go beat up that dog killing drunk snowmobiler though. You know. Since you're there and all. Alaska is pretty small right? Surely right by you. Thx.

The most disturbing part of that clip is that nolifefatso is the one that actually hits the ball somewhere...

Ok, so not too much discussion about the game around here, but gotta bump for a little personal glory, had a pretty good run over the weekend after not playing a whole lot lately thanks to Titanfall and Siege. Started off in solo queueing in Shooting Star 2v2, struggling big league trying to tie up my first game: Which led to a nice run of some 20 plus wins with only a few losses sprinkled in culminating in a defensive struggle: And a promotion to Champion! Probably a little inflated, and I'm guessing if I risk it I'll get bumped down to Super Star again in short order. I really need to get into practice mode and work on wall-hits into aerials, general wall-play, finally learn fast face offs (though I feel like I can counter them well enough so long as I recognize it's coming so maybe that's not much of an issue), and whatever other advanced techniques I currently can't handle. I did get tossed into one match with Super Champions on my way up and it was pretty humbling. I did end up triple dipping with that PC version, and running it at 165hz makes a noticeable difference in my ability to consistently place the ball. The basketball game mode did end up being a bit of a dud. The ball seemed to have more mass and less bounce than the standard ball, which leads to frustrating low-scoring games. The Rumble mode they put out a while ago is pretty stupid, but I think it's a much better mode in that it's at least pretty entertaining for casuals. I see myself coming back to this game as a change of pace from the usual shooter fare pretty much indefinitely. The player count is strong, especially since it's cross-play, the skill ceiling is near infinite but you're always getting just a little bit better. Great game, I'm even considering starting to spend a little money on crate keys not so much because I even care about any specific loot drops (quite happy with my North Korean Pigeon and Purple Tentacle loadouts) but just to support the game. I'm even considering grabbing an Elite controller, but I'm a little apprehensive about learning the muscle memory for paddles, even though I know I would get better situational awareness by not having to use the face buttons.

Yes, Rainbow Six Siege.
Anyway yeah, one of the nice things about Rocket League is you can play it in 10 minute chunks. As much as I'd love to play X-Com 2 or Civ 6 or something it's just too much of a time commitment.
