Judging from reddit discussions it seems like my lag is probably a bigger issue between the Halo servers and Time Warner, I think I'll avoid the game until I hear that it's all sorted out.

Wow, that's crap. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. I guess co-op campaigns is not gonna work well either? That's disappointing because I was looking forward to doing that with you, Pr00toss, and Fatso. Just curious: were you using TW when playing Titanfall? Looks like this problem is specific to Halo 5?

I'm on a shitty low bandwidth Time Warner WiFi connection and the online connections in Halo 5 have seemed similar to those in Destiny or Titanfall (for me) so far.

More maps are coming to Arena before I even start playing, yay!
Despite the raiding from Destiny and lots and lots of ranking up to do in BLOPS3, I am going to spend some quality time with Halo 5 this weekend. Had some solid fun from campaign alone, and that's the weakest link of what the game has to offer...

Based on feedback 343i has received from the community and from further internal playtests a few changes are coming today. To start, they’re removing Orion, in its current form, from all playlists so that they can remove and patch some map exploits as well as make additional improvements to the map before re-adding it where appropriate. In parallel, they’re also working on multiplayer spawns (and any exploits that arise) on existing maps. Next, they’re making major additions to existing playlists by adding 15 additional map / game type combinations to the lineup. Here is a breakdown of the additions:
New additions to each playlist are listed in bold.
TEAM ARENA: In Team Arena, they’re adding Strongholds on Plaza, Capture the Flag on Empire, Slayer on Regret, and Breakout on Altitude. Here’s a look at the new playlist layout:
BREAKOUT - Altitude Trident
SLAYER - Coliseum The Rig Plaza Eden Empire Regret
CAPTURE THE FLAG - Coliseum Truth Fathom Empire
STRONGHOLDS - The Rig Eden Empire Plaza
SLAYER: In the Slayer playlist, they’re adding Truth, Empire, , and Pegasus. Here is the updated map layout dropping this morning:

Very excited for BTB. I finally reached achieved Onyx rank in Arena FFA. Time to chill out in some casual Warzone games. This Sunday I am going to get myself ranked in Doubles then move to Warzone. Maybe we can start doing Warzone Sundays.

I would only go for power weapons if I knew it was clear. It's actually very effective to use them as bait.

After playing through FFA extensively over the last weekend, I came into the same conclusion. 8 player FFA = who is better at staying alive and cleaning up kills (aka the smartest player wins). The above strat is the best winning formula. I hope that 343i will decide to switch to 6 player FFA in the near future. Could be a lot more fun that way. 8 player FFA on 4v4 team maps = "what the hell are you thinking?!".

BTW, I got placed into Plat-1 on FFA, again most likely over-ranked. After having gone through placement process 4 times now, I believe this is how the system works:
1) (this is a speculation) the placement system tends to over rank players. To venture a guess: it only places players in lower number brackets (say 1 - 3) of each division. If a player is at level 4-6, he will be over-placed at bracket 1 of the next division (e.g.: Gold-5 -> Plat-1).
2) (this is a fact) once ranked, a player can only be demoted within a division. Once reached bracket 1 at 0% (although not visible in game, the percentage within a bracket can be seen on Halowaypoint or HaloTracker. Each win/loss appear to +/- ~30%), he will stay there.
This design is understandable because
a) it plays well with player's pride. Psychologically I would feel a lot better at Plat-1 than Gold-5; b) if you happen to be a strong player in your placed division (say Diamond-3), you have much better odds of facing significantly less skilled players and rank up, possibly into the next division;
However, if you happen to get placed into a division that you don't belong, you'll get stuck there.
Not a problem for me yet as I am having a lot of fun at Plat-1 (in both Team Slayer and FFA), it is just difficult to get positive K/Ds. Once they enable the seasons (and hopefully do less over ranking), it could be a lot more fun.

What do bros here think about BTB? From my point of view it offers a completely complementary experience to Arena 4v4 and Warzone, a great addition indeed.
In general 343i has a very good thing going here, offers several unique experiences:
1) Breakout experience: fast paced elimination 2) SWAT experience: reflex and aiming accuracy 3) Classic Halo experience - small map 4) Classic Halo - BTB 5) Warzone Assault - PvP, focused attack/defense with REQ based weaponry 6) Warzone - PvE + PvP, varied objectives with REQ based weaponry
The neat thing is: each has its own dedicated map pool (2 & 3 share the same pool, while 5 are subsections of 6). So each map can be tailor made for that particular purpose.
Going forward, from a replay value point of view: 1) add more maps, which will come from totally free DLC maps and the forge community; 2) incentives to keep players playing in general: XPs, RPs and REQs as rewards; 3) incentives to keep players playing Arena: seasons;
I can see myself playing this game for months, if not years.

I'm really curious what the unranked Playlist will be like In my opinion, the BTB playlist is the ideal social playlist the community has been waiting for to arrive within the ARENA since it features a JiP system. Also, because of the JiP system the CSRs earned within the BTB playlist are not going to be very reliable references of one's playlist skill level therefore if they were to remove the CSRs from it, causing it to become so-called "unranked", it'd be an ideal method to fulfill that unnecessary community desire.

Personally I don't quite understand the needs of "unranked" for standard halo experience, especially now we have Warzone. However, I can see the following non-standard Halo experiences to be in the unranked space: 1) "Fiesta" variants: players are spawned with random weapons; 2) Infection: zombie like game type; 3) Grifballetc.

It is a tough call, IMHO not allowing JiP is les of the two evils. The biggest problem of not allowing JiP is the remainder of a lopsided game is not fun for either team. Objective games are bearable because they can be finished quickly, Slayer on the other hand become a cat anf mouse game that can drag for a long time. One way to address this is to add mercy rules, so the game can end early.

The way I see it is that they should have chose 1 of 2 options.
1) Made BTB without JiP, but added a Forfeit feature to the in-game UI that only appears if team balance (player count verse player count) is lost. That way players can end a bad online experience prematurely and without suffering a penalty.
...OR...
2) Made BTB with a limited JiP; meaning, that it only functions for a limited period of time (no real late game adds and no adds if team score disparity verse time remaining makes comeback attempts impossible or far-fetched). This option should also remove the "visual" CSR aspect from the playlist (making it the first so-called "unranked" playlist) and ensure that anyone getting JiP'd into a match where they're losing won't have the loss count against their personal record unless the team was able to take the lead before losing.
Both options needed to have the REQ Points acquired from a BTB match increased; by the way, 343i have made this update.
I personally prefer option 2 even though I could care less about the removal of CSR.
