In the past the "rush" to get good at cod for comp players and "hardcore" players alike has led to some pretty skewed metas because "x gun is best and nothing will ever beat it ever there's no point trying" a lot of less serious players who regular various forums hop on the train and spout it every time some dude says "hey x is actually okay I know the stats don't say it but try it" to which everyone says "fuck off shitter."
What are some things everyone thinks seemed op/up at the time just because it was being used wrong? For myself playing blops 1 the past few days I realized a lot about the game, anecdotal/expierence based not going to use stats as justification as I feel they can be misleading:
-Stoner feels like a FAMAS with 100% 3hk range and less right-ward recoil in exchange for movement speed; which isn't a big deal as in past cod ads move speed on ar's is almost as horrendous as LMGs, not that that's a bad thing.
-A lot of SMGs that felt useless feel very good with the correct attachment, I always tried to use grip because centerspeed but it turns out the stats misleading; at least to me.
-Spectre RDS feels like it has less recoil than grip/iron sights in general, very comfortable mid range as opposed to grip/irons feels like im straining to keep on target. Rapid fire actually feels like less recoil per shot, makes the gun feel identical to a skorpion from BO2. 1200 RPM.
-ak-74u grip isn't that good outside of medium-close range; within 3hk/20 meters. Symmetrical recoil is harder to keep on target as correction can make your aim worse after the next couple shots, then more correction, worse, etc. Basically feel the guns that arent symmetrical i.e. up/right or up/left are a lot easier to control; this was a known thing but i've also assumesd the correlary that symmetrical recoil=no control needed or also easy to control, and guns with high directional recoil were the ones that were "hard." I was very wrong. Same deal on rapid fire.
-kiparis+rapid fire+hardened= walls dont exist. 1200rpm, medium pen, 4 shot. Nuketown is funny.
-ak47 feels shit compared to commando; I always felt it was the other way around. I was so comfortable with the ak I didnt need SoH, always ran hardened and shit kids through walls ala cod4 deep impact AK.
-M16 irons are fucking god. Rds in general kinda sucks because glare/sunlight.
-different rds reticules produce different percieved recoil. I love circle plus two sideways triangles on my famas, it appears as if the recoil only goes upwards.
-G11 has the fastest TTK in-game and I never noticed this even though it's a hard stat and not something that can be changed by more expierence/ revisiting the game; unless they patched things after mw3 came out. The gun has 0 recoil and a fucking variable zoom; variable zoom switches between 1.5x and 4x... it's fucking god.
Idk this is kinda a huge wall of text but it's just cool revisitinv a game and everything feels so open again, viable even. The enfield is fucking glorious. No recoil when tap fired. Headshot machine. Maybe i'm just easily convinced but I think there's a lot of stuff in all the cod games that was assumed to be one way because stats but in-game just feels fuckin great.
Any thoughts?
Tl;dr things you assumed were bad because stats but upon revisiting the game years later are actually pretty okay
