I'm going to make a couple of assumptions to help move my questions along.
- Let's say what you hear during a game, falls on a scale of 1 to 10. The footsteps of an enemy/opponent running 2 to 3 meters of you is at a level of '5'. So starting with that assumption:
1. About how far away can you hear that opponent? 5 meters? 10 meters? Anyone with any good guesses?
2. The 'Awareness' perk amplifies opponents footsteps. Does it bump up the volume to say 8? (60%). Does it also increase range?
3. An opponent using the Dead Silence perk. If I have no perks, are his footsteps at level 0? (no sound), or just low, like 1.
4. If I have Awareness on, and opponent has Dead Silence....I've been told it reverts to normalcy, like sound level 5?
5. An opponent exo jumping, makes sound. How far can you hear it?
6. If the opponent has 'Blast Surpressor', does that work along the same lines as Dead Silence?
7. If I have Dead Silence on, and exo jump...I still make sound? And do I ALSO show up on the radar?
8. Is exo jumping showing up on the radar HUD, just like firing a shot? Same red dot?

For max stealth play you need Dead Silence and Blast Suppressor. Exo Jumps are just as loud with or without Dead Silence. It's a whole different thing, otherwise what's the point of Blast Suppressor? Exo jumps aren't something I really notice much on the radar though (I think it's more of a ripple than a red dot). But the sound... the sound is quite a giveaway. I've seen the exo jump being used as a great baiting tool in SND as shooting at nothing is a bit obvious, but hearing a Dead Silence guy suddenly use a little boost makes a man think, "I've got him!" and do something stupid.
I'm almost always running both Awareness and Dead Silence right now... so it's hard to be sure on some of these other questions. But, I'm pretty sure Dead Silence vs Awareness = far less than normal footstep sounds. You can hear em, but they have to be close, and the map has to be quiet.
As for range of Awareness, not sure, but you can hear them very loudly and pretty far away. It's a little harder to pinpoint direction compared to say an MW2 or MW3, but this is not Black Ops 2. Soundwhoring is absolutely huge here.

Thanks Pegasus.
So the exo boost isn't putting down the same signature on the HUD Radar as say shooting a bullet? It's a different marker? You are saying it's sort of a 'ripple? Ok. I'm not sure how I have missed this at this point, with around 250 games played, but so be it. I just don't know. I dont' recall seeing any ripples.

I could be talking out of my ass there. I just watched a FFA I recorded and didn't notice it ever happening. I could have sworn I've seen it though, and not the Vision Pulse wave thing. Anyway I don't think it makes a red dot on your screen but I could be wrong there too.
Drift0r from the beta days:
So ping only happens if you use a bunch of boost, so I guess that kind of explains it. If you watch you'll see the wave he sends out at the 30s mark but I don't think he shows what enemy pings look like on your radar.

I ask because of the perks for Blast Supressor says this..." Removes all mini-map indicators when you’re using your thruster pack. Suppresses your suits thruster sound." So like, where on the mini-map? edit... Ok, saw the video. I am going to have to look closer to see about these red dots on the map. And also check the whole jumping thing, to see just how much shows up, with the meter.

Last night was only the 2nd extended session I played, and I definitely noticed the "blip" on the minimap when somebody exo jumps.

No dots, it's a hollow circle like in AW, except it's MUCH less noticeable, and lasts for a VERY short amount of time (like 50-100ms maybe?). You will NOT notice it unless you are staring directly at your minimap.

I don't understand why either of these perks are in the game.

Well the goal is to kill many enemy players while not being killed by them. So Beats By Dre helps with the first part, and Sex Panther helps with the second part, 60 percent of the time, every time.

Oh I run at least one constantly, I'm just saying that whoever decided that soundwhoring was a good thing to throw into Pick 10 balancing can gargle a thousand chodes.

As a certified soundwhore since the original sit rep pro days, I am loving awareness in this game. FINALLY soundwhoring is back to being amazing.

For max stealth play you need Dead Silence and Blast Suppressor. With the number of people running Sex Sense, I'd throw RockHardWired in there as well.

Soundwhoring requires no skill input to execute and forces crutch perks if you want to be competitive. It's a fucking shame that developers would promote it.

blast suppressor makes your boosts a lot quieter which helps in SnD Oh dude I'm just hating on the fact that Awareness and Dead Silence exist instead of not existing. My problem is with the fact that dead silence can in and of itself be used as a Soundwhoring perk, which forces the developers to either make Awareness abusable by itself or useless in comparison to Dead Silence. They wouldn't be such crutch perks in so many game modes if dead silence only silenced footsteps from other player's perspective, but was completely silent even against awareness users. You would then pick dead silence for stealth and/or awareness for soundwhoring.

The existence of both perks in a system that allows two perks from the same tier is broken. MW2 had it right.
And those of you saying this is comparable to MW2's soundwhoring have bad memories. While it blows away other recent CODs, this isn't even 1/10th as good as MW2's foot sounds. > I could have my eyes closed, with no perks on, and have you tap your joystick to move your character 1 inch, and I could tell you exactly where you were standing. 10 feet 5 inches away from me, 124 degrees clockwise from my front, with two concrete walls between us. That was MW2.
Sound was never Treyarch's strong suit, and that was the biggest difference when switching over to BO1, and is what made us SnD players not really like the game. Until we discovered the joy of dolphin diving out the 3rd floor window on Summit

Soundwhoring requires no skill input to execute and forces crutch perks if you want to be competitive. It's a Foxtroting shame that developers would promote it. Very little in this game which requires skill. Nothing wrong with that what CoD is. Reason why I enjoy planetside 2 far more compared to CoD on PS4. Most of it down to map knowledge and position very little between good players. Part of me would like to see them make create a class less versatile. Pick certain weapon class you get certain set of perks which are less versatile if the weapon is easy to use. Pick a hard to use weapon you get most versatile perks or best perks. Want to go full stealth perks you gotta to use a shotgun and move. Want to sound whore again you need to use a shotgun. Could do some interesting things balance wise we already seen Treyarch try to do with with specialists. Another point to make here is that stock/quickdraw are clearly upgrades. Pick 10 system would be better if your choices was limited and became less versatile with every choice you make impacting future choices. Would be going down the Moba route in a way....expanding on what we already have. Yes sound whoring does screw up the perk meta but game is causal so does not matter. Would not call it crutch perks but most versatile option.
