It takes the second to last damage range (which is pretty much always the 5HK range) and increases it.

For this reason, long barrel is useless on the Razorback and Kuda (it would only make a difference on it silenced and even then it only affects ranges where you shouldn't use the Kuda anyway) and very useful on the VMP and Vesper.
