Unfortunately no Grapple in Training and no control environment nor speedometer in active matches. However, I had gotten pretty good at "Slingshots" over walls to send myself soaring a good distance. Hook the top of a wall, double jump just before hitting it and pressing Grapple again to release, vaulting over the wall and going fast. From the general feel of it, the Grapple has a slow acceleration rate on the initial catch, but it ramps up to pull you in at a speed of at least 40KPH. Can't be certain, but I think the Double Jump at the end of a long grapple may kick you above 40KPH. Not by much, 50KPH at best (and succumbing to airspeed friction, slowing down over time?) if you jump at the very end of a long range hook. This clip isn't going in the montage so I can share it... Short range grapples should be easy to find footage of. This is my longest recorded grapple distance. The grapple starts at 19 seconds and ends at 22. Granted, it's no control enviroment and I was grappling a titan moving away from me AND I went around 2 edges, but I hope it is useful.

Speaking with the developers, this loss of momentum is at this point in time intentional. They are developing the game with a system of "diminishing returns" on basically all of their mobility options. They want you to mix things up and not repeatedly use the same move over and over to go fast. This is the reason traditional bunny hopping doesn't work, and the reason why wallruns don't repeatedly accelerate your guy like they did in the first game. Except it's not diminishing turns, is it? If you do a grapple or something to accelerate into your first wallrun, you're still going to get that quick deceleration unless you pop off instantly to get your 40kph back. If the map designs allowed for it, just doing little wallhops endlessly would max out your speed with no diminishing returns whatsoever. If wallrunning into powerslides and back to a wallrun felt fast, then maybe it would be a different story. Are there other 'mobility options' hiding in the full game? Right now there's the slide, which doesn't seem to do much for your speed, and the grapple, which is optional. I really hope the design of the game isn't "you can't go fast unless you use this specific equipment".

There are true bunny hops in the game which we've been sitting on for the past few days. Other people are figuring out so I've literally just gone public with it... take a look. I don't have a clip from the training mode, but you usually maintain around 35kph doing this well.

so basically the crash bandicoot slide jumping that I've already been doing on a whim, but repeated.
Pegasus told me pretty early on that buffering the crouch was the way to go.

For me i never felt bunny hopping to be a fun and fluid way of getting around, and this new way just seems even worse. Although it does give a higher skill player various ways of getting around and the lower skilled players who can't wallrun can use the grapple. I found the grapple to be the best way of getting around so that's probably a good indication of my skills.
Also I can't think of any of the old maps that were not enjoyable. Now if these new maps were in the old game they would definitely be the worst two maps.
The red outline does make it easier to spot pilots from far away as the maps are pretty big, but going back to TF1 again sometimes a pilot could mingle in with the grunts which was not necessarily a bad thing.

According to this Respawn dev the FOV is the same 70 as Titanfall 1. Woah now my reddit PM box is filled with so much anger and rage and threats. The internet is a rough place when you try to help out But at least the devs are now aware of Den's testing and probably going to do something about it.

It's literally in the third post of the thread, on the first open night of the tech test. I have no idea why exactly frothyomen was 'sitting on' it, but it's an obvious technique to try for anyone who has played Titanfall and Black Ops 3.

I got so used to the YY slide cancel that I still do it by accident sometimes and it gets me killed. I really miss it, it was easy and fun to do.

I for one really like that the reload just picks up where it left off in this game. Feels so much more natural.
Does need some getting used to though.

They're saying mostly the right things there, but man if discussion on this game isn't a shit show especially on reddit. Lots of bad press.

The titan with no regenerating shield (AKA no mosquito bite protection) is a big one that I hear/read about.
It is understandable. Proper shield management was neat skill to learn in the first game.
I think there is a method to the madness and I have some ideas as to why they made that design decision.

Now that they are going to fix the movement/momentum (phew), my biggest concern is going to be the map design, as that is something that they can't fix before launch (not enough time). Read this interview to see why I'm concerned, specifically insane comments like this: So instead of an open-world sandbox where we can explore our environments and use the awesome movement mechanics, we are going to get dumb Treyarch-style laned maps that promote tactical loitering and tunnel vision. Awesome and of course, the pilot glow is super dumb

Imho they should just launch the game modes / maps as they are now in TF2, and in addition, add all the TF1 maps with attrition. Should be relatively easy (I think, not sure).
That way, they show they are listening, and give the TF1 fans something to play with for the time being (and more content never hurts...).
And they have a real nice comparison between TF1 and TF2 mechanics etc, in the old maps ,as well as a nice comparison between TF1 and TF2 maps with the new mechanics to see what works and what doesn't.
Probably won't happen, but might be something to think about.
Ever since playing TF1, I hated the map design in every single shooter after that. Everything is too damn small.

just asking, all snipers in this game are projectile-based, right? Do they stack up against all the hitscan weaponry or do they feel out of place
if theyre satisfying enough I might try this game just because of that. Also hear the shotgun is lovely

That's how the Kraber worked in TTF1 and I don't see why they would change it.

^ Nice video Dumien.
In your earlier post you had a theory about the new titan shield system, so what do you think.

First, I think the change was made to serve the new battery/rodeo system.
Second, I have an inkling that one of the unrevealed titans will have at least one support based weapon that will actually find a niche because of the average player's limited healthpool. Think Bastion's repair arm, but for other players.

Ooh that's an interesting idea, maybe every time you gave a friendly titan a battery it completely filled your core weapon up.
I had a few rounds earlier and was concentrating on picking up batteries and keeping my own shield charged, but I'm not sure if it made a big difference to the length I kept my titan. Although it did make me lose the match as I was concentrating on batteries instead of score. Obviously thinking about two things at once is quite difficult for me.

Yeah I don't think it is really worth it to focus on maintaining your titan currently. Sure, prolonging can seem handy, but you absolutely need a full health titan for your team at the beginning of the titan rounds on bounty hunt.

Maybe in attrition it could be worth hunting batteries but I've mostly been playing hard point and as you say it just doesn't seem worth the effort.
When playing the new map at first I thought it was similar to the old maps, but then realised it seems a lot more cramped and again I found wall running limited,so I'm a little disappointed with the new maps at the moment.

I started using the warp embark thingy, and picking up batteries is certainly worth it with that perk! Even if my titan is under a bit of fire, I am back inside once my previous shield is gone, so still winning some HP.
I think all the complains were a bit much, this game certainly feels like titanfall again. My only gripe with it now is map design (although, the newest map is fine) and titan mobility. The extra dash is a must pick, and even then ION feels kind of slow.
p.s. The second SMG is godlike, and the shotgun sucks ass.

the mastiff or the EVA?

Post by Pegasus Actual on Aug 30, 2016 1:31:36 GMT -5
There is no EVA in the tech test. The Mastiff is ok, it's better for killing grunts and stuff than other players. It's certainly pretty fun to use, basically the Doom 1 shotgun. Except it has travel time projectiles. Which can be affected by the gravity star. Curving a shotgun blast around a corner to kill a guy with that combo is kind of on my bucket list. The Alternator (that second SMG) was all right. It has that weird side to side recoil that makes it not so good at medium to long range. CAR hipfire is still GOAT. I love the tech test version of the CAR as much as any gun in any game ever: In the end I thought Pilots vs Pilots was the best mode in the tech test. It let me focus on learning the new pilot movement better. Bounty Hunt wasn't that much fun to play with nobody focusing on objectives. Hardpoint is even more "meh" than in the original. I think once they get the flagship game modes out there, Attrition, CTF, and LTS people will like this game a lot more. Hopefully the other maps are a bit more creative and offer better more obvious parkour routes than the 3 in the tech test. I think movement is fundamentally better in the sequel now that they've fixed the wallrun speed.

Its down to just the AI spawn density and the maps for me. I really hope that these aren't their "showcase" maps. CTF should be loads of fun. The big open map has me worried since I can't see CTF being fun there.
