Mayhem Clash...woo, time for killing Guardians with swords
Took me (quite) a decent bit of time, but I'm finally one step closer to Raze-lighter. Now I have until next Tuesday to try and get the PvP kills for Dark Drinker, and possibly even Bolt Caster.

If you don't get them complete by this week, just wait until the 15th and Mayhem Rumble should be back in rotation.

Just buy the other swords on the same character and skip to the material farming.

Thanks for the tip Mal, had to look it up on Reddit to get the specific details on how to do it...so now I have all three exotic quests on my Warlock. Now to get a load of void, solar, and arc ability kills and materials.

Material gathering is a chore, but just a time suck instead of giving you herpes like the Crucible does.

I only worked on the swords while Mayhem game modes were active, mainly due to more frequent heavy ammo spawns and enemies drop heavy bricks. Unfortunate that Mayhem only pops up every couple of weeks. Also, memory of Radegast is wonderful, I have no regrets bumping that up to 400 light. Luckily I've kept a few 390+ ghost shells that detect the three materials needed for this part.

If you are not aware already, you can pick a node multiple times until someone else joins your instance. So for Mars I went to The Buried City, pick some Relic Iron, and then sparrow my way up that hill where the occasional Vex spawn and then turn back. As you are on Playstation, you can alter your system's clock so that you are always alone apparently.

I think I did the swords using Arcbolts, just toss the nade and hit them with the hilt.

The PVP part was, for me, hellaeasy in IB control. Each sword took no more than 3 games each, just hilt smashing the f$$k out of every living thing
As for the Mats, get a ghost that detects stuff, then equip a NLB and climb to the nearest peak/tallstructure, and ADS, the NLB will detect the mats in the iron sights better and easier than say, a sniper scope. Then just sparrow around. If you're broke, pop a glimmer consumable and make glimmer. Don't do the whole PSN time change thing; each sword should take 30 minutes just sparrowing around the patrol areas.... do bounties too. The key to this part is that is can get really really boring and doing other stuff on the side helps with your sanity.
Let me know when you want to the Hellacool part; John Rando's can really screw this section up as you need to kill the elemental guys within 30 seconds (less than a minute for sure) of killing hellacool and John Rando will just kill em all and not give a crap about you and your quest. You need kiters for this section and doing it in a FT definitely helps

I think the material gathering portion of the quest typically takes a couple of hours each. You need to gather about 150-200 (so roughly 100-150 nodes) of the material in question (on average) to get the necessary special material.

I think I did the swords using Arcbolts, just toss the nade and hit them with the hilt. How long did that take? Took to some Mayhem Clash to see how quickly I could rack up ability kills in PvP...seems that even an average game of Mayhem PvP is a fair bit more effective for racking up those ability kills than patrols (though I might use Dark Beyond or Siege of the Warmind to finish off the abilities part). Another plus with doing this half of it in PvP, I can always pop a 3 of coins every match. And thanks for the NLB tip and offer Marko, I'll shoot you a message when I get to the final part of the quests.

So now I'll be able to go through the Sunless Cell strike for all three swords...after this Wednesday. Farming the materials might have been the most boring thing I've ever done in this game. I mean, running Siege of the Warmind for an hour to get ability kills for 2 of the 3 quests was more entertaining than that...
No Land Beyond was actually quite useful in the search for mats. And as an added benefit, it's up to 390 just in case I want to goof around with it and a sidearm or fusion rifle in PvP.

You didn't play the game at lauch did you? Not quite at launch, bought the Destiny PS4 bundle about 5-6 weeks after release. Didn't get heavily invested into it until the end of 2014/beginning of 2015 when I couldn't stand playing Advanced Warfare any longer started on my Warlock and Titan. Though now that I remember, the grind to get from level 20 to level 25-27 on my first character was more tedious and boring than material farming.

Then it sounds like you missed out on running laps around Scablands to get Relic Iron to upgrade armour. Good times. /s
