www.respawn.com/frontier-news-network-05-23-2017-monarch-reignsPretty much a month after the last map drop, not bad at all, maybe they finally have their content pipeline flowing. If they get another couple of maps out in the next couple of months along with Frontier Defense I might even be impressed! It's gotta be weird putting a new Titan out there by itself. Surely all you're going to see for like the first week is nothing but Monarchs. Relic isn't my favorite map from the original but it can't hurt to have. I still haven't really been playing this game lately, I even missed out on the featured modes that I was interested in, MFD and the Titan TDM mode. But I'll definitely give this DLC a chance. I mean new Titan, c'mon! Gotta be a little excited for that!

Now for some Patch Notes. forums.titanfall.com/en-us/discussion/12530/monarchs-reign-the-patch-notes/p1?new=1Ion took a pretty significant hit to her lasers. Some of the weapon nerfs are odd. P2016 getting hit with the stick for what reason? The Titan Hunter Kit seems pointless, especially when it's in the same slot as Low Profile. NEW CONTENT [FREE] Map: Relic New Titan: Monarch New Execution: Now You See Me [Cloak] Requirement to unlock: Get 10 Pilot executions while cloaked [this is not counted retroactively]. New regen callsign banners for Gen 10-100 including prism versions. NEW CONTENT [PURCHASABLE]Prime Titan: Ronin Prime Titan: Tone Camos 20 new camos Callsigns and Patches 20 Callsigns and 20 Patches [including Nessie and Spicy Boy patches!] Nose Art 5 new Nose Arts and 1 new Warpaint MATCHMAKING AND NETWORK IMPROVEMENTS You can now invite friends to Network in-game. Added “confirm” dialogue when inviting a friend to Network. Will no longer show the “invite friends to network” button if it’s not allowed for active Network or if the Network is invite only and the player is not an admin. GAME IMPROVEMENTSUpdate to Crashsite map. Fixed around 100 instances of getting bumped, bonked, stuck or tripped up. During the clean-up, we also wanted to experiment with more mobility options. To that end we’ve added 8 ziplines to get around the map faster and a few more wallrunning locations. TITAN BALANCEGeneral Titan Meter and Core Meter are now gained when damaging shielded Titans. Slightly reduced Core Meter generation from damage to compensate. Titan executions are no longer blocked by shields. Ion Laser Shot now requires more energy, preventing you from double tapping opponents. Reduced Laser Shot damage. Laser Core damage slightly decreased. PILOT BALANCE New Pilot Kit 2: Titan Hunter - Killing a Titan rewards 10% bonus to your Titan meter. Pilot WeaponsVolt Near damage and amped near damage increased. Added a small amount of viewkick. Flatline Damage and amped damage reduced to bring it in line with other assault rifles. R-201 and R-101 Very far damage slightly increased. Devotion Damage and amped damage reduced. It should now require ramping up to be more effective than the Spitfire. DMR Amped DMR damage reduced to 80 for a bodyshot. P2016 Near damage reduced. Very far damage value added, reducing the pistol’s damage at distance. R-97 Very far damage reduced. Tactikill Mod Cooldown reduction per kill lowered to 25% from 35%. Melee Fixed issue with melee attacks not hitting near corners. Improved hit accuracy when there is a height difference between players. GAME MODE ADJUSTMENTS: Prevent phase shift players from earning meter by phase dropping the flag and then picking it back up. Private match will no longer display win/loss messages as those are not tracked in Private Matches. You can now skip the kill replay in Live Fire and Last Titan Standing matches. MISC BUG FIXES Players dying inside their Titan will no longer award a “Pilot Assist”. Pilots no longer considered idle and be kicked while rodeoing. Fixed issue with Pilots getting stuck after grappling out of a rodeo near a ceiling. Fixed issue with store where bundles would still show as purchasable after you already bought them. Fixed issue with open invites not showing the correct icon for joined members. Fixed several rare crash bugs.

The Ion thing seems brutal. A triple nerf? And the Laser Core has already gotten the nerf-hammer, it's nowhere near as good as it was closer to launch. Didn't Laser Shot get some kind of range/accuracy penalty at some point as well?
Not a fan of the Tactikill nerf either. I have that damn thing on every single class. Anything that cuts in to my Phase Shift budget is no good.

To me personally, I feel they've been rather excessive with some of these nerfs. It could make one question whether they truly are the original Infinity Ward team

The ion might be a bit overboard. But that all depends on the damage changes really. It could be minimal (they have done minimal changes in the past). No double tap is a good move imho.
The Tactikill change was completely warranted imho, if you have it on every class, there is a pretty good chance there is something wrong with it. It was probably the best attachment in the game, at least for good players. Especially in combination with the double charge tacticals.
I hate the flatline because it is an RNG machine, but I hope it still has some uses for balance sake.
Amped DMR was not really a problem on console, but I can imagine it to be pure cancer on PC.
R201 was my go to weapon for the bigger maps, and it seems it will be so in the future too.
All in all neutral to positive about these changes, depending on the actual numbers.

I gradually switched from the Alternator to the Flatline. On console, I can get 90% of the Alternator's benefits without the finesse that it requires (always tap-fire, small magazine capacity) and I get the heavy-handed AR aim assist. Plus like the Alternator, the Flatline could do some silly stuff when amped. Patch is out now. I'll wait to see if the Ion nerf is that bad, but it really screams "please use Northstar in non-titan-only modes." It really didn't make sense on PS4 because among good players, Ronin has become the most popular titan, and a decent Ronin player can easily delete Ion from the battlefield.

The nerf to Ion is very minor, a reduction of damage from 1400 to 1200, and the energy cost going from 500 to 550, adding a very slight delay between shots when at full 1000 energy. Very small, but possibly enough to make players use her Rifle more. The Splitter Rifle has always been a really powerful Anti-Titan gun, more players might actually realize it now. Also a bunch of other changes to weapons:
R201 Carbine's very far went up to 12 damage. One bullet less needed. Flatline damage went from 35-20 to 30-15. One bullet more needed up close, two more at a distance. R-97 damage went down to 14. One bullet more needed. Volt near damage up from 23 to 25, recoil went up from almost zero to 0.15-to-0.35° up, 0.1-to-0.4° horizontal per shot. Devotion damage went down to 25-15. From 3-5 to 4-7 shots needed. P2016 damage has become 40-20.
Several Suppressed weapons had their damage buffed by a bullet or two. RE-45 Auto, P2016, Mozambique, Wingman.
Most notable is that more stuff related to Frontier Defense is sitting idle in the files now, Frontier Defense may have quite a lot of unique mechanics and its own persistent progression and inventory system. Rather than just being lumped into Multiplayer, it could be its own "co-op" section in the main menu. A couple modifiers, probably for future temporary game modes, "coliseum_party" "low_ttk" (our little acronym sure has come far) "tactical_rebalance", sharing Titan Meter with allies. NPC behavior may become more robust and more AI may show up online in future patches. Grunts with Archers may be able to lock on.
As for Monarch, she needs a great deal more things for the player to consider compared to any of the other Titans. Depending on the Upgrade Kits, she can go super tank, super damage, healer-hybrid or some middling combo The Stock XO-16 is weak in regards to damage output unless you're up close. If you Kit Monarch with Arc Rounds and XO-16 Accelerator Upgrades, it then becomes quite powerful. Multi-Missiles aren't exceptionally strong, but they recharge pretty quick, especially with the Rearm&Reload Upgrade Kit. Monarch is good at both infantry and anti-titan, but far from excelling like others. If you kit her out for combat with Superior Chassis Upgrade, she's basically an Ogre with Atlas speed. And when you give her Energy Transfer, she can be a neat "medic" who hangs back and just zaps allies to give them shields.
Even at max Upgrade, Monarch still needs a good deal of management to keep her standing and winning any fights head on. Siphon and Salvo recharge quickly, Rearm at ideal times to effectively give her double Dash/Salvo/Siphon in quick succession could have her outrunning Striders if you treat her right.

Thanks Den great info, much more useful than the patch notes "increased damage".
I didn't expect the R97 to get a nerf, if anything I thought it needed another buff.
So this isn't particularly important or relevant but I thought I'd share. I hadn't played for awhile so I had two rounds of attrition last night as I wanted to try Monarch out. As I was trying out all her features I thought I'd aim and shoot to see what happened and the sound was completely different it really threw me out. It made me start over thinking, is it less accurate or less powerful what effect is it having, even though I couldn't notice any changes. Amazing what a different sound can do.

Do Monarch cores beyond 3 do anything other than heal your battery?

So I had a few rounds earlier and tried Monarch out again, and the difference in sound when firing zoomed in wasn't there. So the only thing I can put it down to is that I was imagining it the first time round.
I seemed to do a lot better with her when I was pretty far away from the action, has anybody got any close quarter tips.

Maelstorm, or whatever the heck they call the mod that increases your electric smoke damage. Spread your killer farts around and stay hidden in them. Keep in mind that you get THREE CHARGES of smoke, and they replenish ridiculously fast. I also just took a break from Titan Brawl for Attrition, and discovered that the energy zapper thing works on Reapers for giving you a shield.

Wow what, 3 charges per core? Or what do you mean? gosh darn golly gee whiz... Actually I'm not entirely sure how it works, sometimes I have 2 charges, most of the time I have 3, and other times I have 5. Rearm refills all of your smoke charges, and gives you your dash back (haven't tried with 2 dashes but I imagine it does both)

Nice tips thanks Will. When I was using Monarch I used overcore and for the boost I used spare battery, I'm not sure if using spare battery also builds your core meter. I haven't had a chance to play today so I couldn't check.

Rearm refills smoke? I don't even know if that is true tbh.
I think the reason Monarch seems to have more smoke is because you can only earn one per core, and monarch use their core the exact moment it unlocks, instead of only at the right time.
Battery + overcore is the right way to go butterfly

Battery + overcore is the right way to go butterfly holy moly you are right on both counts. My preferred Monarch loadout right now is Dash & Energy Thief, <Arc Rounds-Maelstrom-Superior Chassis>. Obviously Titan Hunter and Phase Embark on my pilot.

Finally got around to playing this DLC the past couple of days. Titan Brawl is kinda fun. First I've tried of it. But it has the same problem as LTS. Bad teammates can sink you like in fewer games. Guys who feed Monarchs are even worse than guys who feed regular cores. Sheesh! Speaking of which, that mode could really really use the Titan damage column. I would love to quantify to what degree a loss is not my fault.
Monarch is pretty fun to play, but not a top tier Titan vs Titan mode kinda mech. It goes heavier on the cooldown juggling stuff which is kind of interesting. I'll have to try it in a mode with pilots soon. It seems like the Chaingun is a lot less accurate compared to the original, but maybe that's just the crappier crosshairs fooling me. I didn't have much of a problem tickling crit spots with it.
I'm guessing there's probably not another Titan coming soon seeing as Monarch stuff was data-mined many months in advance and I haven't heard anything about another Titan. But expanding the Titan roster and doing some meta-shifting over the months would be a great way to keep the game fresh. One new Titan isn't enough.
