So, I checked out the three new faction vendors, and despite wanting the New Monarchy shaders I went with Dead Orbit for a chance at some of the possible loot. After joining and turning in the first set of tokens, I noticed the loot table was different than originally shown. I looked it up online, and found a complete loot listing for the three vendors on the Bungie site. Apparently, what I had seen for Dead Orbit was actually the loot table for New Monarchy. Mother fuckers.

Yep, if you want good gear, FWC or NM are the viable options. DO just has shaders, and they aren't even as good as the D1 DO shaders. DO will get a lot of fanboy love due to the blackish shader scheme, but the smart choices are the others.

I did the deadorbit people, keep turning in tokens, did the challenge, but nothing good seems to be happening.

You'll get rewards for the first 30 levels, afterwards you will only receive shaders. You cannot see your level in game, but can see it on destinytracker.com.

Pretty much agree - DO weapons are trash. Hand cannon with triple tap, a sidearm with PvE perks, a mediocre shotgun, and a high-impact pulse.

NM stuff isn't that great. The auto rifle is bad, the SMG is very similar to Red Mamba, the shotgun is fun (slugs and full-auto) but I don't see it taking the spot of Hawthorne's, the scout is decent and probably has utility for the Prism modifier (changing damage types) because it has armor piercing.

Meanwhile FWC has a hand cannon that hits like a truck, a 450 rpm auto rifle that will be meta if they nerf high-cal, a Mida-archetype scout with high-cal and rampage, and a Sniper with who-the-hell-cares-it's-a-sniper.

I glanced around DestinyTracker. It seems a mess. I couldn't find anything anywhere about tracking my progress through the dead orbit.

I don't understand this. I think I have have leveled up maybe four to six times so far, gotten six engrams, but there is nothing to indicate how far I have to go. Why hide it in the game? This is ridiculously dumb. There is a box at the bottom that says 'Prize' (or something like that), but it seems to be locked. I can't get it.

Don't worry. There simply is not a rank anymore. You will notice when you are not getting more gear from faction engrams, because well, you won't get any more gear. You cannot change factions anyway... I think most players will never reach that 30 anyways.

You can "only" get 30 engrams. This is the easiest source of legendaries by far in D2. ~50 legendaries for 600 tokens.

The prize is when that faction wins after the week. That means that that faction has gained the most tokens this week from all players. If your faction wins you can buy it for 50 glimmer, if another faction wins you can buy their weapon for 50K glimmer. None of the weapons seem super strong though.

Ohhh..ok. That makes a lot of sense. These engrams are easy to get. I do a couple of public events, especially the challenges, and I can roll up about 20-30 tokens in no time. It seems like 15 to 20 get a legendary engram.

I didn't realize I can't switch though. That kind of sucks.

Got Polo2 to finish the campaign finally... and I got an exotic engram that popped as a new exotic (yay!!!) ... Winters Guile (melee kills increase melee damage) at 297!!! So now I'm rolling at 286. Haven't used them though.

Now to run some Cayde's stashes, some Crucible runs.

bradman: you given any thought to making another Titan? Before the next faction event, I'm gonna have Polo3 up and ready so I can hedge my faction bets

Remember that if you make the same class and share your goodies between titans, you'll boost your #1 with the rewards for completing the story line from #2.

But also remember, that even if you create another character, you will still greatly boost the power level of character 1.

Really, I cannot emphasize enough how little you benefit from having two of the same characters in this game. My second character was 280 in a day after its creation. Once you are level 20, and you transfer your 280 light weapons to your alt , your alt will earn 270 blue gear... And we all know how much blue gear drops from public events. After you get to lvl 20, you will be 280 within 2 hours. Especially if you save some EDZ/Nessus etc coins so you can get legendaries to mod. 2 hours of "work" is the only difference between having 3 different or 3 of the same characters... Unless you would absolutely hate to play with anything different than the same character over and over again. I really would advice building three different ones this time around.

Then there is also the thing bungie did with powerfull engrams levels being nerfed if you have two of the same characters.

For completing the story a 2nd time around, I got a 297 drop as a 285 warlock.

I wouldn't necessarily call that a nerf.

STRONGLY disagree. My experience is that creating a second version of the same class is the WRONG way to go. It messes with and/or nerfs the drops for powerful engram drops. Bungie has specifically stated that they intentionally nerfed the advantage to having more than one character of the same class. Absolutely the smart way to go is to have one of each class. I think this is pretty undisputed at this point.

Secondly, all the reddit info I've seen contradicts that. Like I said, I got a 297 exotic from a 285 warlock... something that article says shouldn't have happened.

I mean, sure. Maybe. But I still like warlocks and I'm still going to do it this way

For context - I started with two warlocks, and adding a second one did not help me. I can confirm a lack of powerful engrams.

"This recent development has actually been confirmed by Bungie itself. Players noticed that their second and third alternate classes, usually meant to bolster their main Guardian of the same class, were receiving weirdly low power drops, even from Luminous Engrams, which are supposed to be weekly rewards that are well above your current level.

Players took to the forums to complain about this, but community manager Cosmo confirmed this is being done on purpose to prevent exactly what these players are trying to do:

“I spoke with the dev team about this. They said that secondary characters of the same class don't get the weekly power bonus. They didn't want to force players to have three of the same class to create the optimal way to increase their power level.”


We saw a lot of players doing this right when the game started, particularly those trying to gear up super high for the raid or hit 300 ASAP, but once you cross a certain threshold, you really just cannot do this anymore as the nerfed drops will come into play.
