Bungie clarified the Three of Coins issue:

Basically, when players use 3oC, you get a "50% increase to the base chance of being rewarded an Exotic Engram upon activity completion" but it doesn't guarantee one after X # of activities, rather increased chances upon each completed activity.

EDIT: I haven't used one yet, but does anyone know if they reset? Is it a 4 hour buff to allow you to get as many exotics as possible... or does the 3oC buff go away once you get an exotic?

And the answer to this thread's title is, obviously, no, of course they can't. What now? Each Dawning-exclusive shader will potentially take up 2 slots in your shader inventory -- one slot for shaders that drop from Tess or Dawning engrams and thus dismantle into bright dust, and a second slot for the exact same shaders acquired from the daily gift quest things which dismantle into shards and glimmer. In other words, Bungie would rather take time to program these shaders to dismantle into different items depending on source, as well as take up extra inventory space in an already woefully undersized inventory area, than dare allow players to get their hands on a bit of extra bright dust during a limited time event where the total cost of the items for sale is somewhere around 30,000 bright dust. That's pretty fucking sad.

So my initial positive impression was based on the idea that the daily gift quests could drop the same stuff Tess has for sale. Turns out that’s not the case, there are a couple things that are available from both sources, but all the “good” stuff (armor and exotics) is Eververse-specific. It’s an empty shell of an event compared to the Dawning 2016, which I guess should be no surprise given the state of D2 compared to D1Y3.

Yeah this shit is bullshit. I have defended Destiny for long enough. I am still a fan of some of the stuff they did for D2, like removing must have stuff like Gjallarhorn, introducing static weapon rolls and making PvP way more balanced. But literally by far the most development time gets thrown into eververse. F off. I have not even touched my alts, completed the raid once on my titan, and will probably try a few more times when my friends are online. But not even motivated enough to go on LFG. I mean, I love collecting stuff. But the best stuff is payed for, and if I want to collect all the free stuff, there is not even enough vault space....

Yeah I am kinda done with destiny lol. Which is sad, because D2 made some steps in the right direction for me personally. The DLC is also quite solid, but all of it is getting so damn salty and it is starting to effect me. And normally I am somebody who doesn't try to get salty and stay objective.

I can't remember who I said it to... Hawk or Brad... but I'm still convinced that Activision/Bungie is deliberately setting the bar low and they are simply pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with.

They had HUGE sales at release (it just came out today that it was the 2nd biggest selling activision game of the year... CoDWW2 being #1) , and a vast number of people (like me) bought the big pack for the 2 DLC's... so Bungie is playing with House money here. And what do you do when you have house money.... you play like you have nothing to lose because you have nothing to lose. So they're going to try stuff to see what happens. Because they have nothing to lose. They don't give a $hit about CoO's #'s.... guess what... they don't give a $hit about the next DLC's #'s...

All the saltyness about the DLC... all the saltyness about Eververse.... sure... it's a lot of noise, but ultimately... it's irrelevant. Why? Because the kicker is this: what's one of the biggest sellers in the PSStore? you guessed it: silver. They don't give a $hit so long as that changes. Because despite all the $hit that's going on with Bungie..... despite paywalling, content locking, microtransactioning... xp throttling.... all of that... the regular common joe schmuck is still buying all of this stuff and until this changes... Bungie doesn't care.

"But Polo.... what about the Touch Football fans. The people like us." Destiny 2 is one big gigantic Foxtrot you to us, the Touch Football players and virtualy anyone who played D1 for an extensive period of time. That's why there's no endgame, or anything to do after you hit level 20.

But what does Bungie give a $hit about?

The 3rd DLC... the one that no one has bought yet.

All they have done since release and now.... is to set that bar low. So.... that bar? It's going to be low. Why? Because all of the QoL changes that we want? That will all be ushered in for that DLC.

And we will swallow it up like a cokehead diving into a mountain of schnee... the media will be the cheerleaders saying Bungie has finally got it right... Reddit and Bungie.net will get the lube out and jack all over themselves saying that Bungie listened to them. And the sales will be off the charts for that 3rd DLC.

It will be the Taken King over again.... they will give us a new area, with a "new" enemy and new things to do that will "regenerate and revolutionize the game".... Youtubers like Byf and Datto will trumpet the changes for all to hear. And the cycle will repeat themselves.

But right here... in the here and now... Bungie has our money and they're going to push the envelope to see what we will tolerate.

And because silver keeps on selling, I don't expect them to change at all. Because why would they?

FYI... Bungie knows about it but has said they're not going to fix it until after the Dawning ends because it's only affecting Mayhem and nowhere else and as well, they will not be banning players for doing it, as "it's on us, not them"

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, Marko, but I do think they're making a pretty big misread of the community regarding that 3rd DLC. I think if they don't make a major overhaul by the time DLC 2 comes around, there's a sizable chunk of people who are going to leave the game and not come back.

2 things

1. There will still be that sizable group of people who still enjoy playing the game. Like me... Despite all the BS, I still genuinely like playing Destiny. There are obvious things I would like fixed. But ultimately, I still enjoy playing it. Remember that the salt of DtG and B.net represents a vocal, but small minority. There still is a group of people out there that enjoys the game.

2. There will be the casual players who started with D2 who will continue playing. This #, imho, will make up for anyone lost.


Furthermore, Bungie has done this over and over before.... they did it for TTK.... they did it for RoI.... and they'll do it for Destiny 2._ . They know how to market themselves. They know how to sell the sizzle. They know how to make chicken salad out of chicken bones. They know how to get customers coming back.

Destiny 2 keeps making the same mistakes as Destiny 1.

From its September debut until now, Destiny 2 has managed some sort of quantum trick: it’s simultaneously superior to its predecessor in a hundred obvious and subtle ways, while also repeating almost every one of the first game’s launch-year failings, sometimes to the letter. It’s understandable that Bungie would want to cut away the many bandage-like auxiliary systems they added to Destiny over three years. They’d want to do that in order to launch a game with a sturdier foundation, something they can build on in new and exciting ways over the years to come. It’s less understandable why they would still fail to communicate with their players to the degree they have, or why the game would still hide crucial systems and calculations, forcing players to figure out for themselves that the XP system is invisibly throttling them, or a new exotic buff item isn’t working as intended.

Personally speaking, I like Destiny 2. I appreciate the numerous ways Bungie has managed to improve the game over the last few weeks. Despite a rough winter, I’m still optimistic that it’ll become a better and better game over the months and years to come. But it’s remarkable how closely the sequel’s meta-narrative has matched the narrative of the first game, up to and including the disappointing winter expansion and Bungie’s continual unforced communication errors. It was exhausting the first time around, and it’s incalculably more so to do it all over again.

Yeah I really don't care honestly. The game is pretty fun to play, I will buy an 20 dollar expansion if it gives me a weekend of fun. 20 dollar is way cheaper than anything else I will spend if I am not gaming during the weekend. Still though, vastly dissapointed with the current direction.

In titanfall, I bought every single cosmetic, because I wanted to support the game. I never used some of them.

In D1, I bought one or 2 dances, since I could choose which I got, and I wanted to support the game.

In D2, well, there is nothing besides Pay to look good. If I want to spend money on looking good, without any actual gameplay, I will play cryptokitties.

Pro tip #1: for the Dawning Gifts: If you are going to farm planetary mats, use your ghost that highlights planetary mats.
Pro tip #2: for the Dawning Gifts: If it says step: 1 kill _ enemies, and step 2: is farm mats.... don't start farming mats first as those mats won't count
Pro tip #3: it's about 10 regular mats before you get 1 blue mat
