It's a common belief that bolt action rifles don't "miss" while semi-auto rifles are less accurate will sometimes miss. I believe you've stated that all weapons always shoot exactly where they're aimed. However, any sniper will tell you that sometimes hits just don't register. I think this is a bug in the game, and has nothing to do with whether you're using a bolt or semi auto. Sometimes hits just don't register...I think it happens with all guns, but it's most noticable when you're sniping an easy target that you know you hit.
If this is true, the R700 is obsolete (the 50 Cal beats it in every dimension). The M40 seems to be easier to steady and aim (is this in the weapon file?) which may keep it from being obsolete. Why did IW nerf the R700. Worst recoil, bolt, only 4 rounds, start out with less ammo...it seems decidedly inferior to all the other rifles. I think the .50cal is decidedly better. Best damage modifires (along with R700), most ammo (with m21 and dragunov), 10 round clip....
I'm not seeing the balance.

From what I've noticed it scopes in quicker. I'm a quick scoper I notice these things.
Oh and hit detection isn't such an issue in private matches, generally it's pub games that it gets horrible.

Alas, a double post, however, a few nights ago I was in a private game with 2 friends and one of them decided to record some of the bad hit detection in the game:
Enjoy

Interesting...I'll have to check the transadstime or whatever it's called. If the R700 does scope quicker, I may have to give it another chance. I've always assumed that they scoped the same. Honestly I have like 50 kills with R700...I've never really used it because of the reasons I've listed above.

I checked the weapon files. All the sniper rifles have a adsTransInTime of 0.4 seconds, so they all scope at the same speed at least on the pc.
A final straw: The R700 w/ bando has 36 bullets. The .50cal starts out with 30 bullets (has 70 with bando). Look up nerfed in the dictionary...there's a pic of the R700 right next to it.
I'm not seeing the balance.

I've been told from the weapon files that they are all 0.4 (on WaW too) but definitely from the appearance it seems quicker.
I don't know, maybe a shorter animation?
I tend to notice it cos I basically use snipers exclusively on COD4...
