Food and beverage..? Got my AP Calc and Chem for during the intermissions. :X Since we go up to about 11 people, shouldn't we just arrange teams/squads before hand? Ya'know, to reduce confusion and complexity and such.

Since we go up to about 11 people, shouldn't we just arrange teams/squads before hand? Ya'know, to reduce confusion and complexity and such. What you're suggesting is a noble idea, but I'm afraid it's impossible. First and foremost, the mission behind setting this up was to provide a way for people who read this board to find people to play with. So it has to be accessible for anyone to come for the first time. Secondly, the tools we have for communication at our disposal are terrible. We have this board, and game chat once people are all invited, and it's only for people in that particular room. And private messages either on this board or on XBOX. It's really horrendous. Thirdly, yes, we got 11 people last time, but I don't even know who they all were. It's not uncommon to get friends joining, or even to invite a random opponent who did well. So even if I did want to convey who I'd like to go to which squad, I can't even do it until we're all in a party/game. Fourthly, I know from my own experience trying to lead raids in WoW that organizing people on the internet is extremely difficult. If you put up a signup sheet (something which isn't even possible here), people don't sign up. Or they do sign up but then don't show up. Or they're late. And that's for something like a raid that people can't do by themselves, and that gives them the possibility of loot that's better than what they have, and takes place with a guild of people that they should care about like friends or even family. Here there's no guild, people can play by themselves anytime, and there's no special guns that you can only get through this. All I can offer is a time to play with people who are hopefully better than average. For all these reasons, that's why I think it's best to keep things as casual as possible. All I can promise is that I'm going to get online at 8pm and start playing. If you're on and want to play, I'll invite. If you can't make it on time, it's cool. If you have to leave early, it's cool. If you don't want to show up at all, or if you want to bring a friend, whatever, it's cool. The only limiting thing is really the party/game size, and I honestly think that 6v6 is a better game than ground war. Which is why I proposed that idea of having me invite everybody and then having other teams of 6 break off from that once we hit 9. (See my earlier post for why rather than repeat it here). I'm definitely open to new ideas and suggestions, and if someone has a better plan I'm open to it, but right now I think that this is the best way to do it.

A quick note: thanks a lot to SCB for the invites recently. Just sorry I haven't been accepting them! I was on CoD4 today and have been playing with some other friends the last few days. I'm still more than happy to participate if needed or wanted, though!
Thanks again!

Last night was a lot of fun and very successful. My memory is hazy but I think we won all our matches except for the one we got nuked on because of that random guy going 1-16. I stayed for about 4 hours and we had 7-8 people most of the time.
Two things. I might be going out of town next weekend, so if someone wants to volunteer to lead it, that'd be great.
Also, I would score Domestic Bliss Points if I moved it to a weeknight instead of Saturday, but I'm hesitant because I think it would be harder for people to devote a block of time to playing. How would you feel about a change to some weeknight (let's say Wednesday?). Definitely speak up if this is a bad idea for you. Thanks.

Thanks a ton for organizing our games last night Sugar. I had nightmares of UAVs with 9 red dots all night last night though, lol. If possible we should get more (or less ) people to come out so we can splinter into 6-mans because ground war is nonsensical, albeit fun. Also, I wasn't talking much because I was sick, but I was at least giving pertinent information when I did kick back the phlegm. I had to mute people in our own party who saw every death as an opportunity to soapbox about the way they died. That's cool if your playing by yourself or with a friend, but when we are playing team oriented games, please mute your mic so voice chat is free for people to say things that actually are relevant to the game. We all love to talk TTK and OP weapons, but it's also painful to hear "OMG ACR is so OP" and "Put down your M16 Bad kid!". Maybe I'm being sensitive because I've been sick as walking death this weak, but I have a feeling I wasn't the only one that was bothered by the incessant whining that lead to selective muting. All that aside, I had a blast and can't wait for next week. I would volunteer now on the spot, except the issue of when to hold the next war is fluid, and I can't host every night. I'll keep in touch with you scb, and thanks again for orchestrating this carnage.

Ok, about last night, I'm really sorry to everyone. I was yelling left and right, and screaming at stupid stuff. That night I was having a big personal issue that made me quite a bit depressed, and I vented it out on you guys. I'm really sorry.
On topic: I wouldn't be able to do wednesday, I think that saturdays are best.

I wasn't there, so I can't really speak to what was going on last night in particular, but personally, I would hate to see the Denizen Games turn into cold clinical affairs where no one said anything unless it was related to the objective or the match. I really like when we get a little bit of off-topic chatter going. To me, the matches aren't about creating some sort of hyper-competitive clan so much as they are about having fun with a group of like-minded gamers. Talking about the objectives is obviously part of that, but keeping things from getting too serious is part of that, too.

I love off-topic chatter, especially when we're winning, no reason to try even harder. I don't care if we win or by how much, as long as we are trying to win. This definitely isn't a group of dudes that is going to be cut throat, we are laid back and all there to have fun. I'm just trying to make sure that's what happens.

Saturday really does work best for me, but I feel bad for saying it because Domestic Bliss Points are hard to pass up I'm sure. The sad truth is that I still live with my parents (junior college has it's pluses and it's minuses) and am only allowed 2 hours every day but sunday and saturday. Sunday I'm allowed 0 hours, and saturday I'm allowed 4. If it's late at night and I'm on, I'm sneaking extra time, which is also the reason I sometimes can't talk or have to turn off my xbox w/o warning.

This definitely isn't a group of dudes that is going to be cut throat, we are laid back and all there to have fun. I'm just trying to make sure that's what happens. Cool. Like I said, I wasn't there last night, and I didn't want to come off as if I was passing judgment on things over which I had no direct knowledge... I was just concerned with one possible way your post could be interpreted and wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. Anyway, as far as the official Denizen Game... I don't know about moving the night or anything, but I'm on probably 80% of the time at 11 PM EST and looking for a crew to play Dom or Ground War with. Weekends, weekdays, makes no difference. If I can get 3 or more people rolling, I play. If I can't, I watch movies on Netflix. I mention this because it seems like the Denizen Game is getting too big, and perhaps we need to evaluate its organizational structure. Perhaps instead of just having the one official Denizen Game, we should get a group of regulars together and say "we'll be on at these times... if you want to game with us, post in this thread and send us a friend request". That way, if Tuesdays and Thursdays work for SCB, he just lets people know when he'll be on, what he'll be playing, and how they can get in on it. If someone new comes along and Tuesdays or Thursdays don't work, they see what other regulars are playing. Maybe they can't make Tuesdays with SCB, but they see I'll be on Wednesday at 11 and they send me a message on Live so they can jump in with me. Generally, over the internet, I've found that less organization often winds up being more. Also, for what it's worth, my gamertag is "Some Sort", I'm usually on at 11 PM EST, and Dom is my game of choice, but I'm also up for SCTDM or Ground War. If you see me on and want to get in an unofficial "Denizens Game", shoot me a message. Any day you want... every day, if you want. I won't make any promises or any hard and fast commitments, but the odds that I'll be able to scrounge up a small crew on short notice are generally pretty high. Provided I don't get inundated with friends requests to the point where I can't keep up, I have no problem with making that a pretty regular thing. Edit: I guess I'm advocating turning this thing into more of a Social Networking thing than an actual playdate. Instead of "everyone who wants to game with like-minded gamers, show up at this date and time", we can do a "everyone who wants to game with like-minded gamers, here are some gamertags and a platform for you to meet them". Which isn't to say that we'd get rid of the set gametimes entirely, it's just to say that the set gametimes seem to have grown a bit beyond our control and we should look into supplementing them so that everyone can stay involved. Nobody likes being the 10th man in a 9-man room.

When I'm on you guys are usually on so it works. No need to have a regular time, just advertise that you're on in this topic so you let other people know. that should be enough

I think the notion of a more fluid system is a good idea. I'm all in favor of people meeting up for games. I much prefer getting together with even one Denizen as opposed to playing Mercenary TDM.
I would like to keep something static though, for the new people. When I was getting into this game, I had one person on my friends list and he doesn't play MW. So I added a bunch of people from the In Game Names thread but I still felt foolish sending random messages to people asking if they wanted to play. There's people even now who are on my list who I haven't invited to a game probably just because I haven't invited them to a game. I think people would feel more comfortable knowing there's a set time they can come and introduce themselves.
Secondly, communication as I've said, is really bad. Mass communication doesn't exist, it's pretty much spam invites if you're interested and wait 5 minutes to see who is in the party. That method is ok for casual but it's easy to see how it can be suboptimal. I half wish there was some kind of XBOX chatroom feature (complete with keyboards, lol) that would make things easier (though it also seems like overkill for a casual game). That's another reason I like the structured event, to try to eliminate any confusion by having only one person you need to contact.
i guess I feel like it would help if people were more proactive about joining people who are playing. Like if we're got a group and someone gets online, maybe they want to play, but at the same time, it's a pain to have everyone back out of the lobby and send an invite and wait to see if that person is interested. But I'd be happy to make sure they got in the next game if someone sent me a message to invite them. Stuff like that I think would be a big help.

I'm 99% certain I'm going to be out of town this weekend. Even though I encourage people getting together to play whenever the mood strikes, I want to keep a static time as well. NoVABaller has graciously offered to invite people, so please message him if you'd like a spot.
The 8pm ET timeslot seems to be working, so why mess with a good thing. Hope you all somehow manage to have a good time without me there. I know it will be rough.
Next war: 8pm ET 7pm CT 6pm MT 5pm PT 3/20/10, message NoVABaller if you don't get an invite.

I'll be taking Friend Requests for this all week and will invite you guys to play any time you are on MW2, even if it isn't this Saturday at 8 ET. I can't wait for war this weekend, I'll host it for at least 5-6 hours since I'm PST.

Sorry I've been so scarce lately, guys. I just bought a house, which is , but which has killed my free time over the past two weeks. With double XP week starting tomorrow, though, you're going to see a lot more of me online. Send me an invite and we'll get some impromptu Dom matches going.
