So I have two weapons that are maxed out - their prestige icon has appeared. I know it allows me to add GT or ClanTag to my gun - anything else? Should I? 'Anyone done it and NOT regretted it?

Doing two weapon prestiges gets you the clan tag, emblem engraving, and the ability to get a Calling Card for your gun. It's also helpful for leveling up when prestiging; you can play with a maxed out gun, or go back to level 1 and keep using it for ~20,000 points in the long run.

You do not lose camo progress upon prestiging. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true I might actually do it.

Mousey prestiged launchers and I prestiged the R870 and MP7. You don't lose camos, believe us.

Emblem and clan tag on assault shield look rather impressive.

Also: you will be rewarded with 5000 XP when you reached max weapon level at prestige 2.
This can be confirmed by: Barracks -> Challenges -> Primary Weapons -> Any weapon -> Mastery -> Marksman
The camo challenge is called "Expert" which is completely independent of "Marksman". Expert will also reward you 5000XP.
Once you completed both "Marksman" and "Expert", you'll achieve "Mastery", which will give you an additional 10,000 XP.
In addition: Marksman, Expert, and Mastery each will also give you a calling card.

Regarding Emblem on weapons: can you choose which Emblem to apply from your emblem collection, or it has to be the one you use for your playercard?

It's always the one on your playercard.

Is the tag/emblem on the weapon optional?
I would prefer not to have it, but I would like to get the calling cards and XP.

If you prestige (non weapon) do you lose your camos then? Or is weapon prestige and character prestige now totally separate?

If you prestige (non weapon) do you lose your camos then? Or is weapon prestige and character prestige now totally separate? Level prestige does not affect your weapon progress. As soon as you reach the level to unlock a weapon, you continue where you left off in the previous prestige: including weapon level, attachments and camo.

One interesting thing to note:
Based on my personal experience: it appears to me that weapons picked up from the ground and weapons in the default loadouts do NOT contribute to weapon progress (leveling and camo unlock) and weapon stats.
Has anybody else noticed this? I guess it could be intentional as 3arc devs want the players to level the weapon and use the attachments in the order they intended.

They do if you have the weapon unlocked. Pro tip: use the default shotgun class to level up the M1216 until you unlock laser yourself. Pro pro tip: get the M1216 to prestige 2 before you unlock your seventh custom class.

Tips? I am at the tail end of prestige 1and I'll be getting my 7th custom loadout soon. So if I want to take your "pro pro" advice I'd better get started now.

You must absolutely control your engagement distances to fall within the hip fire four shot range of the M1216, which admittedly is quite limited.
Legit has been having a good time ADSing with it as it can theoretically in kill in 3 shots at the tip of its range if sighted, but I highly disadvise this as it is very difficult to keep the shots on target during the burst.
Know your limits. Do not be cocky. Take the long way if it means you'll be exposed to long sight lines less.
Just shotgun.
Knowledge and understanding of the shotgun's range as well as what the weapon can and cannot do is infinitely more important than everything I just typed.

I am not a shotty fan, but in MW3 I did have fun with USAS and got it gold, so I have some basic idea about how shotty works. Regarding M1216 range: denkirson.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=5399 says "max=49" but I have no idea how far that is. Can you describe its effective range relative to a map location?

It's just as far as the range of the Striker in MW3.

They do if you have the weapon unlocked. Another noob question: If I spent a token to unlock a weapon in the previous prestige, and used it in the current prestige before its unlock level (default class or pickup from the ground), will I be able to contribute to its leveling? Example: let's say that after reaching level 55 in prestige 1 I unlocked and used AN-94 for a while and then proceeded to prestige 2. I then picked up an AN-94 from the ground and used it to get some kills and assists, would these contribute to my AN-94 leveling?

Yes, so long as the weapon was unlocked and available to you in Create-a-Class (ex. you must be at least level 4 and have Create-a-Class available).

Yes, so long as the weapon was unlocked and available to you in Create-a-Class (ex. you must be at least level 4 and have Create-a-Class available). But in the above scenario AN-94 is not available in Create-a-Class as it is locked again until I can reach prestige 2 level 55 (unless I used a perm unlock token on it)

Thought you said in your first post that you used a prestige token on it. I was talking about the unlock token rewarded by leveling within a prestige. Sorry for the confusion. So looks like the only way to level up a weapon is when either the weapon is unlocked within the prestige or permanently unlocked. Off topic: I did spent my 2nd perm-unlock-token on AN-94. It is a superb weapon, and I am currently enjoying a 1.97 weapon KDR with it (the much higher KDR is largely due to the way I am using it: either as a patrol/defender weapon or Overkill with a SMG)
